Chapter 171: 171: Wild Monsters

Miya and her crew were still making their journey down to the Netherwild tribe and it didn’t prove easy at all.

It was taking them longer than it should. As they made their way down to the wild tribe, they had suddenly lost track of the way.

The crew were going in circles without a sense of direction. And they found this strange. It took them long to realize it, but they had already spent a considerable longer time, going in circles around the same place.

At some point during the evening, Miya stopped as she looked around. "Why are we still in the same spot? What’s happening?"

Her dog beast husband agreed. "True. I’ve also noticed this. We’ve been moving around the same spot.. not even getting there. The Netherwild shouldn’t be that far so why this?"

Her bird husband stared at Kul, the tribe leader’s son who was leading the crew. "I thought you knew the way forward? Then why are we moving in circles?"

"Look, the food we brought with us is already running out. How long can we keep up with this long walk?" They were already exhausted from all the moving in circles.

"Shut up, I know what I’m doing," Kul insisted, running a hand through his hair even though he didn’t even know where he was going anymore.

Their food had gone more than halfway and it was soon going to finish. And they didn’t even know where they were!

"So frustrating," the tiger husband folded his arms as he insisted. "Someone else who knows better should lead us down or we head back."

"I know these paths better than you, tiger," the brown wolf husband insisted as he came forward.

"What do you know? I’ve been on these roads for ages more than you," Kul insisted.

As the two kicked off in an argument on who knew better and who should lead the way, Miya was getting frustrated and exhausted.

She ran a hand through her hair, rolling her eyes as she felt her stomach grumble. She was exhausted and weak already.

"Stop this..." But as soon as she spoke to stop the fight, they heard something.

Silence lingered through the atmosphere of the woods they looked around. "Did we hear that...?" The dog asked.

"I did too..." The bird said as they looked around.

They heard the sound again. A sound of a wild animal groaning through the woods. The sound of a predator staring down at its prey.

Panic rushed through their veins as they stepped backwards, pulling out their weapons.

"Come behind us!" The bird beast husband told Miya who rushed behind her husbands, whimpering in fear as her husbands, Kul and the other warrior beastmen pulled out their weapons to attack.

They looked around, trying to understand what was attacking them. For a while, they only heard its vicious sounds through the woods but saw no face.

"What the hell is that.. show your face you monster!" Kul snapped. He was clearly whimpering in fear.

For a while, nothing happened, and soon they began seeing eyes in the dark woods of the evening. Red eyes flashing at them.

Fear grasped through them. "What’s that...?" Kul demanded.

And immediately, the tiger beast husband said, "That’s... A wild fox monster..."

At that moment, they realized that they were in a contaminated zone! And as these monstrous foxes began making their ways out of the woods to surround them, they had realized the strange scent.

These monstrous foxes were releasing pheromones that made people around lose track of them and move around in circles.

"They did it," the dog snapped. "These monsters...!"

"Take them down now!" Kul snapped, shivering in fear while he insisted.

The warriors stepped forward, standing before these foxes standing at different spots against them. And soon, a fight broke out.

The foxes were bigger and stronger. And they were high ranked monsters.

Miya and her crew didn’t know much about the wild lands. They were always hiding on the mountains while forcing the wild beastmen to protect them since the lands of the wild beastmen were where the wild monsters stayed mostly at. Where contaminated zones were excess.

So for this lack of major experience, they had followed a short path that they didn’t know was where one was mostly to come across a contaminated zone. And they had also encountered the wild foxes.

And they didn’t have the strategy to fight these foxes because the foxes had ended up beating up the whole beastmen there.

The A-rank husbands of Miya were strong. But they lacked the experience and wits to take down these cunning foxes that beat them into bleeding profusely.

They only had the strength. But these foxes had the brains and they made them bleed for them until they were limping.

Even Kul was also brutally attacked by the foxes. Only Miya was safe. Because Miya meticulously avoided these foxes and used anyone, her husbands and the warriors as shield for herself.

One time, a fox was about to come for her and she pushed a warrior instead and the warrior ended up dead.

But that didn’t stop her from getting some injuries within the period. She was hurt as well by the attacks of the foxes.

This continued until her A-rank beast husbands ended up killing one of the foxes together.

Then the rest of the foxes stopped and stared at the dead fox. Immediately, the foxes groaned signs at one another and slowly pulled back.

They stopped attacking and left into the woods. And that was how Miya and the rest survived complete death in the hands of the wild fox monsters.

With the foxes gone, they lay there panting like dead people. Staring around in fear.

"We.. we should go back... we... we can’t continue like this..." Kul was staggering.

"Weakling. We can’t just run away like this. Coward! We have to complete the mission your father gave us. We have to make sure we get to that wild tribe..." The dog beast husband insisted.

And so they decided to stay there for the night and recover a bit before they continued their journey down to the wild tribe.
