Chapter 83: Two S-Rank Ratings, A Phoenix-Race Individual
Chapter 83: Chapter 83: Two S-Rank Ratings, A Phoenix-Race Individual
The man who blocked Emilia’s path was a high elf.
High elves were a race that prided themselves above all other elves, believing themselves to be the purest, most superior lineage.
They often looked down not only on humans and other races, but on other elven races as well, treating them as diluted versions of what they considered perfection.
This particular high elf had long blond hair tied neatly behind his head, sharp features, and pointed ears adorned with faintly glowing ornaments.
His posture was relaxed, confident, almost arrogant, as if he had already decided the outcome of this encounter.
“Come on now,” the blond-haired elf said as he took a step forward, his tone smooth and coaxing. “I promise I’m much better than this…”
His eyes flicked toward Leon for a brief moment, his lips twisting in open disgust.
“…thing.”
The insult was not subtle. Everyone nearby immediately understood what he meant.
Leon’s world was Earth. And Earth was a low-level world.
That fact alone was enough for many to judge him before he ever spoke or lifted a finger.
At this stage of the game, the [Intermediate Divine Temple] was mostly populated by individuals from intermediate-level worlds or higher.
Low-level world players became rarer the further one progressed. The system itself didn’t forbid them, but reality was cruel.
As time went on, their numbers would only continue to shrink.
[Eternal Ascension] was said to be fair, but that fairness was superficial. The difference in innate talents, racial advantages, world-grade resources, and early opportunities created an invisible wall that most low-level world players could never overcome.
Many of them died early. Others gave up entirely, unable to keep pace.
Some chose to submit themselves to a god, becoming followers in exchange for borrowed power.
No matter the path, the result was the same.
In the [Higher Domain], there would barely be any of them left.
Only those who stood at the absolute peak, individuals like Eleonore, could carve out a place of authority, and even that was earned through nothing but overwhelming strength.
As for Leon… He truly didn’t care what they thought of him.
Their words meant nothing. Their opinions meant even less.
If he wanted to, he could quite literally wipe the floor with every single person inside the [Intermediate Divine Temple].
He didn’t even doubt that fact. The only thing stopping him was the rule engraved directly into this place: killing was forbidden.
Otherwise, none of them would dare look at him the way they were now.
And more importantly, Leon didn’t feel the need to intervene. Because Emilia had already moved.
Fwoosh!
In a blink, Emilia stepped forward. Her movement was clean, sharp, and terrifyingly fast.
The high elf didn’t even have time to react before her scepter was already inches away from his face.
Sparks of fire crackled violently at its tip, heat radiating outward in waves.
The shift was instant. One moment, the elf was confident. The next, his pupils shrank.
“You’re weak,” Emilia said coldly, her expression filled with pure disgust. “Don’t approach me again.”
Her voice wasn’t loud. She didn’t shout.
But every single person nearby heard her clearly.
Even knowing that killing was forbidden inside the divine temple, the high elf stumbled backward and fell to the ground, his legs giving out beneath him.
His heart hammered violently in his chest, panic flooding his mind.
He hadn’t seen her move. At all.
One moment she was beside Leon, the next she was in front of him with a weapon raised.
If she had wanted to… If she had truly intended to kill him…
There was no doubt in his mind that he would already be dead. And that terrified him.
He was from a high-level world, Egostic, a world that prided itself on producing powerful high elf elites. Yet the difference between them was so vast it felt unreal.
How? How could someone like her exist?
Emilia didn’t spare him another glance.
She turned around calmly and returned to Leon’s side, her expression softening slightly as she stood next to him.
The fallen elf, and everyone else watching, might as well not have existed.
“My turn,” Leon said simply as he stepped forward.
The attention of the entire hall shifted onto him. Whispers spread instantly.
Countless gazes locked onto his back as he approached the [Divine Stele]. Many couldn’t understand it. They couldn’t reconcile the image in front of them.
How could someone like Emilia, someone so overwhelmingly strong, stay with a human from a low-level world?
Leon ignored them all. He placed his hand on the cold surface of the stele.
BOOM!
[S-Rank.]
The sound echoed throughout the hall.
Just like Emilia, Leon received the same ranking.
Shock rippled outward immediately. Voices rose. Eyes widened. Disbelief filled the air.
“But how—” the high elf who had approached Emilia earlier stared at the panel in utter disbelief. “A human from a low-level world… better than us?”
No one answered him. Leon and Emilia didn’t even acknowledge the noise.
They turned away from the stele and headed toward the far end of the hall, where seven massive gates awaited.
The process was exactly the same as in the [Novice Divine Temple]. Each gate corresponded to a different assessment rank, and players would choose which challenge to face.
The only difference this time was the scale.
If Leon remembered correctly, the A-Rank assessment required roughly 50,000 Combat Power.
The S-Rank one required at least 70,000. The gap between them was enormous.
It wasn’t just a number, it was a deliberate barrier created by the [Heavenly One] to separate the merely powerful from those who truly stood at the top.
And the fact that Leon and Emilia both received S-Rank assessments, one after the other, while standing together… It silently announced something to everyone present.
They were likely the strongest players currently inside the [Intermediate Divine Temple].
They walked toward the S-Rank gate. Unlike the others, this area was nearly empty. Only one person sat nearby.
She rested calmly against the wall, seemingly unaffected by the tension, the whispers, or the stares around her. Her posture was relaxed, almost lazy.
The moment Leon saw her, his eyes widened.
A strange, unpleasant feeling crawled up his spine.
Appraisal!

—
Leon was genuinely surprised.
The aura she emitted was subtle, yet suffocating. It wasn’t aggressive, but it was strong enough to instinctively discourage anyone from approaching.
And yet… For some reason, Leon felt like he knew her.
That made no sense. The phoenix race was so rare that most players never even saw one in their entire lives.
Their innate ability was also among the strongest known: they were immortal.
Each time they died, they would revive after roughly a week, reborn from their phoenix flames, no [Resurrection Stone] required.
An ability like that could be a blessing. Or a curse.
Leon only glanced at her for a moment.
She was stunning. So beautiful that many would fall in love at first sight.
Her hair was a deep crimson, tied into twin ponytails, the tips of which were made of literal fire.
She wore a simple, cute dress that contrasted strangely with the overwhelming power she radiated.
Sensing his gaze, she lifted her head.
Their eyes met. Her eyes widened.
“You…” she muttered softly. “…Wow.”
Before Leon or Emilia could react—
“Leave.”
Fwoosh!
Light enveloped Celeste instantly.
Her body dissolved into glowing particles, scattering into the air before disappearing completely.
“I guess she already completed her assessment,” Emilia said with a shrug. “Do you know her?”
“Not really…” Leon replied, scratching his chin. “But… I guess I just had a feeling.”
The fact that she had been resting near the S-Rank gate was strange.
Did that mean she had completed an S-Rank assessment? If so, her combat power had to be at least 70,000.
Leon didn’t understand how anyone other than himself could reach that level. Still, he didn’t dwell on it.
’Celeste Flamoir,’ he thought briefly. ’I’ll keep an eye out. She’s probably in another [Lower Domain].’
With that, Leon and Emilia stepped toward the S-Rank gate.
One after the other, they entered.
Ding!
