Chapter 60: Blocked By The Moon Sect, Mutating Moon Bears

Chapter 60: Chapter 60: Blocked By The Moon Sect, Mutating Moon Bears

Based on what Leon remembered from his past life, the strength of the guards blocking the cathedral was no mystery to him.

The regular [Moon Sect Guards] were usually around twenty-five thousand Combat Power.

The general standing with them was even worse, thirty-five thousand at the very least, possibly pushing forty thousand depending on the phase of the moon and how close the event was.

In a straight fight, Leon could deal with the guards.

He was confident of that. With his current skills, equipment, and combat sense, even clashing directly with the general wasn’t out of the question.

The problem wasn’t strength. It was numbers.

There were too many of them, all positioned to support each other, all trained to suppress threats quickly and without mercy.

They weren’t there for intimidation alone. They were there to make sure absolutely no one caused trouble near the cathedral.

And they had the power to enforce that rule.

Leon stared at them silently, his expression calm and unreadable.

The guards didn’t move. They didn’t need to. Their presence alone was enough.

Beside him, Emilia tightened her grip on her scepter. Her shoulders were tense, but her eyes were steady.

“What do we do?” she asked quietly. “Your call.”

Leon stayed silent for a few seconds longer.

He weighed the situation carefully, running through possible outcomes the same way he always did.

Then he turned around.

“…No need to risk it,” he said simply. “We’ll be back soon anyway.”

Emilia blinked, then relaxed slightly. “Alright.”

They were still only level fifteen. No matter how abnormal Leon was, this wasn’t the stage where players were meant to force their way past level twenty-five elites guarding a major event dungeon.

As levels increased, the entire balance of the world shifted. Monsters grew stronger.

Native NPCs became more dangerous. Even the environment itself began to favor higher-level entities.

’So much for the fairness the [Heavenly One] keeps talking about I guess.’

For players from high-level worlds, this place was already dangerous.

For those from low-level worlds, it was brutal.

Even Leon, with all his knowledge and advantages, knew better than to push things recklessly.

They walked away from the guarded zone, heading back toward the heart of [Moon City].

As they moved, Leon spoke again, his tone casual.

“By the way,” he said, “how many attribute points do you get per level?”

Emilia looked slightly surprised by the question. “At first, it was fifty. But after a while… it increased. Now it’s seventy-five.”

Leon nodded slowly. “As I thought.”

This was another invisible gap between players.

People from higher-level worlds didn’t just have better bloodlines or stronger innate abilities. Their growth itself was different.

Depending on their race and the level of their home world, players could gain wildly different amounts of attributes per level.

Each level might grant 20, 30, 50 or even 100 attribute points in an instant.

Leon strongly suspected that players from eternal-level worlds were gaining hundreds of attribute points per level after their first assessment.

That was how monsters were born. And that was why the gap between players only grew larger over time.

He clenched his fist slightly.

Fortunately, his [Heaven’s Blessing] compensated for some of that disparity. Every level granted him more attribute points than normal.

’Maybe it’ll increase even more after the second assessment,’ Leon hoped.

They returned to the main square of [Moon City], the atmosphere still lively despite the looming event.

Players moved around, discussing plans, forming temporary groups, or arguing about whether it was worth participating at all.

“I honestly thought you’d force your way through,” Emilia said with a small chuckle. “I don’t know you that well yet, but it felt like something you’d do.”

“I considered it,” Leon replied honestly. “But it wouldn’t work in our favor.”

Attacking even a single [Moon Sect Guard] would instantly destroy his reputation with the [Moon Sect].

That wasn’t a minor penalty.

It meant being locked out of the event, barred from interacting with key NPCs, and possibly even being marked as hostile within the city.

And worst of all, it would make meeting the blacksmith nearly impossible.

Leon wasn’t about to sabotage his future for short-term satisfaction. Preparation always came first.

He’d deal with them soon enough.

They left [Moon City] shortly after, passing through the gates and stepping back into the moonlit wilderness beyond.

The moment Leon stepped outside and lifted his gaze toward the sky, a panel abruptly appeared before his eyes.

[The God of Moon gazes at you.]

“…What?”

Leon froze. There was no explanation or follow-up panel Just that single line.

His eyes locked onto the massive moon hanging unnaturally low in the sky. Its pale surface was slowly, almost imperceptibly, being stained crimson.

The word “God” echoed in his mind. That wasn’t a coincidence.

A thin bead of sweat rolled down Leon’s temple, but he forced himself to calm down. Panic wouldn’t help him here.

Based on everything he knew, the gods weren’t allowed to interfere directly in the [Lower Domain]. The [Heavenly One] enforced that rule strictly.

If that panel appeared at all, it meant observation, not action. Still, it was unsettling.

He glanced at Emilia. Her expression hadn’t changed at all. She clearly hadn’t seen the panel.

Other players nearby pointed at the sky, talking excitedly.

“Look, the moon’s changing!”

“Oh shit, the event’s almost here!”

“Don’t get too excited. This event’s insane. I’m not even touching it.”

Leon exhaled slowly.

The [Blood Moon] affected the entire region. Monsters would grow stronger.

Their aggression would spike. Their loot would improve.

For most players, it was a nightmare. For Leon, it was an opportunity.

“Should we move?” someone nearby said nervously. “Monsters are about to get buffed.”

“Yeah. I’m level twenty and I’m still backing off.”

Leon’s lips curled into a faint smile.

Stronger monsters meant more experience. Better drops. Faster growth.

He intended to take full advantage of it.

If he wanted to challenge the [Blood Moon Cathedral], he needed to be ready before the moon fully turned crimson.

And that meant grinding. Before long, Leon and Emilia encountered their first enemies in the region.

A group of massive bears emerged from the trees.

Their fur was silver, reflecting the moonlight, but streaks of crimson had begun to spread across their bodies, as if the moon itself were bleeding into them.

Leon activated [Appraisal].

[Moon Bear (Mutating…)]

[Level: 17]

[Exclusive Talent: Moonscorched (E-Level)]

[Combat Power: 14,000]

[Details: A bear that usually acts in a group, powered by the moon.]

They were strong, but not threatening. Leon noted two things immediately.

First, many beings in this region possessed exclusive talents. These were abilities unique to their species and environment. They could never be acquired or stolen.

That explained why he had never gained sub-talents from these enemies yet.

Second was the “Mutating…” status.

Monsters didn’t usually spawn mutated. Something triggered it. Events like the [Blood Moon] accelerated that process.

These bears were in the middle of changing. It didn’t matter.

Leon stepped forward.

Slash!

His sword flashed once, clean and precise. One of the bears collapsed instantly, its massive body hitting the ground with a heavy thud.

The rest roared and charged.

Storm of Lightning!

A violent surge of lightning exploded outward, arcs of electricity tearing through the clearing.

The remaining bears were struck simultaneously, their movements freezing as electricity coursed through their bodies.

Spectral Flames!

Emilia raised her scepter. Ghostly fire washed over the stunned monsters, engulfing them completely.

They didn’t stand a chance.

Fwoosh! Ding!

[You have killed x7 “Moon Bears (Mutating…)” and gained 2,800 experience points.]

[100% Drop Rate has triggered. Items have been automatically placed in your storage space.]

Leon grinned.

“Nice,” he said. “Looks like it’s time to grind a little.”
