Chapter 171: Life Vessel Revival Process, We Aren’t The Same
Chapter 171: Chapter 171: Life Vessel Revival Process, We Aren’t The Same
Meanwhile…
Leon’s vision had gone completely dark the exact moment the vine sliced through his body.
For a brief instant, there had been absolutely nothing.
Not even the feeling of time passing. It was as if the world itself had simply disappeared.
Then, slowly, his awareness returned.
’Damn… I actually died…’
Leon quickly understood what had happened.
The memory of the vine cutting through him replayed clearly in his mind, and he could still remember the terrifying speed of the attack that had pierced through his [Darkness Barrier] as if it didn’t exist.
He had made a mistake.
Even though he reacted quickly and tried to defend himself, the [Will of Nature] was simply far stronger than he had anticipated.
Still… If the same situation happened again…
Leon knew without a single doubt that he would make the exact same decision.
He would push Celeste out of the way. Every single time.
She didn’t have any [Resurrection Stones], which meant that if she died in that temple she would be forced to wait three entire days before respawning.
Leon didn’t want that to happen, especially in a situation where they were facing such a dangerous enemy.
’I’ve got to get back quickly though,’ Leon thought.
As his consciousness stabilized further, Leon slowly looked around.
He was floating in complete darkness.
An endless void stretched in every direction, completely silent and completely empty.
There were no stars, no ground beneath his feet, and no visible walls surrounding him.
It felt as if he was suspended in the middle of nothingness.
’This is…’
Before he could finish that thought—
BOOM!
A powerful explosion suddenly erupted somewhere in front of him, breaking the silence of the void.
A massive structure slowly began to rise from the darkness.
Leon immediately recognized what it was. The [Altar of Life].
The enormous stone altar floated calmly in front of him, glowing with a faint blue light that illuminated the surrounding void.
The structure itself looked ancient, its surface covered with large cracks that spread across the stone like glowing veins.
Despite its damaged appearance, the altar still radiated an immense amount of power.
Ding!
[The power of the “Altar of Life” fuels you, giving you another chance at life.]
Fwoosh…
Suddenly, ten faint figures appeared around the altar.
They were the souls Leon had obtained during the God-Rank Assessment.
Each soul floated silently in the darkness as they slowly surrounded the altar, their ghostly forms faintly glowing as they all turned their attention toward Leon.
For a moment, the void remained completely silent.
“…I still haven’t found the [Lord of Souls],” Leon said quietly while looking at them. “But soon…”
The souls simply stared at him. None of them spoke.
One by one, their bodies began dissolving into glowing particles.
Each soul drifted slowly toward the altar before merging with the stone structure.
The first soul fused with the altar. Then the second. Then the third.
One after another, all ten souls were absorbed.
When the final soul merged with the altar, the entire structure suddenly began shining much brighter than before.
BOOM!
A powerful shockwave erupted outward from the altar.
The wave slammed directly into Leon’s body.
Instantly, an intense burning sensation spread throughout his entire form as enormous amounts of energy surged into him.
Blue cracks appeared across his skin, glowing brightly as the altar’s power flowed through him.
’Holy shit…’
Leon’s eyes widened slightly as the pain intensified.
Just before his consciousness faded again, one final panel appeared in front of him.
Ding!
[The “Altar of Life” has revived you thanks to your “Life Vessel” title.]
[It will take 48 hours for the “Altar of Life” to recharge.]
’Hm…’
Leon briefly wondered if there was some way to reduce the recharge time of the [Altar of Life], since waiting two full days for another revival could easily become a problem in the future.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have time to think about it.
His vision faded once again as his consciousness disappeared.
…
Back in the real world—
At the exact moment the [Will of Nature]’s vines were about to strike Celeste—
Fwoosh!
Blue cracks suddenly began spreading across Leon’s severed body.
A surge of blue energy erupted from within him as the power of the [Altar of Life] activated.
Thin lines of glowing blue energy appeared between the two halves of his body.
They slowly connected the separated parts together.
Then, in less than a second… The two halves fused perfectly.
BOOM!
A powerful explosion burst outward from Leon’s body as he was revived.
The shockwave blasted violently through the chamber, instantly destroying every vine that had been about to strike Celeste.
’I guess the explosion is meant to stop spawn killing…’ Leon thought as he slowly pushed himself to his feet. ’It’s pretty powerful.’
As he stood up, both Celeste and the [Will of Nature] stared at him in shock.
“Leon!” Celeste shouted in relief as she rushed toward him. “B-Be careful! That thing managed to free itself a little because of me!”
Leon turned his gaze toward the creature at the far end of the chamber.
“Did you use fire on it…?” he asked calmly.
“Yes…” Celeste sighed.
Leon could already guess what had happened.
If he had still been alive at the time, he definitely would have told Celeste not to do that.
Using fire against something made entirely out of vines sounded logical at first, but the restraints holding the [Will of Nature] were placed by the [Goddess of Nature] herself.
Burning them would only weaken the seal.
Regardless of the mistake, the situation had already changed.
The [Will of Nature] now had both arms free.
Leon tightened his grip on his sword. Then he nodded calmly.
“Futile,” the [Will of Nature] laughed loudly from across the chamber. “That just means I’ll have to kill you again!”
The atmosphere inside the temple immediately grew tense.
For Leon, there was only one clear objective: he needed to get close enough to the [Will of Nature].
Close enough… To strike it directly.
He knew very well that the creature in front of them was far too powerful for ordinary attacks to damage easily.
Even after being restrained for so long by the [Goddess of Nature], the [Will of Nature] still radiated terrifying energy, and it was obvious that his only goal now was to break free completely and destroy everything around him.
Still, Leon had something he wanted to know.
“Do you hate the [Goddess of Nature]?” Leon suddenly asked while taking his stance, his eyes fixed on the creature as he prepared to move at any moment.
For a brief second, the chamber fell silent.
Then, the [Will of Nature] burst into loud laughter.
“HATE?” he shouted as pure fury filled his glowing eyes.
All the vines surrounding him began clenching tightly as his rage surged outward.
“I WILL OBLITERATE HER!” he roared. “AND I WILL MAKE HER REGRET EVER BEING ALIVE!”
“Damn.”
Leon could feel the hatred pouring out of the creature. It was overwhelming.
In a strange way, both of them actually shared the same long-term goal: they both intended to kill the same god.
But Leon already understood something important.
He couldn’t allow this being to live.
The [Will of Nature] didn’t simply hate the [Goddess of Nature].
He was clearly willing to destroy the entire world if it helped him grow stronger.
Leon and this creature… Were nothing alike. Not even close.
“Alright,” Leon said calmly as he nodded, “Too bad you won’t be able to do it.”
“HAH?” the [Will of Nature] roared furiously. “You think YOU can stop me?!”
BOOM!
The moment he said that, the [Will of Nature] raised both of his arms into the air.
Hundreds of thick vines instantly erupted from the ground all around him, twisting violently through the air like massive spears.
The chamber trembled as the attack prepared to strike.
At that exact moment—
“Defend yourself,” Leon said to Celeste without even looking back. “Your flames should be strong enough to scorch his vines. Meanwhile… I’ll deal with him.”
Celeste immediately nodded. Flames burst around her body as her phoenix power ignited.
Pyra also emerged from her chest, its fiery form glowing brightly as it hovered beside her.
And as for Leon… He didn’t hesitate even for a second.
He leaned forward and launched himself across the chamber at full speed.
Straight toward the [Will of Nature].
