Chapter 164: Meeting DemonBeast, End of the Divine Academy’s Event

Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Meeting DemonBeast, End of the Divine Academy’s Event

Leon and Celeste stood still as the massive demonic creature stared directly at them.

Its crimson eyes glowed faintly in the darkness of the clearing.

For a few seconds, no one moved.

The monster looked like a giant wolf, easily three meters tall, with a massive body covered in dark fur.

Crimson cracks ran across its skin like glowing veins, pulsing faintly with demonic energy.

Its mouth slowly opened, revealing several rows of long, razor-sharp teeth.

Two curved horns rose from the sides of its head, just behind its ears.

But what caught Leon’s attention the most were its claws.

They glinted faintly in the dim light, sharp enough to tear through armor like paper.

Leon also noticed something else.

Tiny glowing particles were fading into the air near the edge of the clearing.

Those particles only appeared when players were eliminated.

This creature had killed someone only seconds before Leon and Celeste arrived.

Celeste tightened her grip on her spear.

“What do we do?” she asked quietly. “That thing is strong. I can feel it.”

Leon remained calm, “There shouldn’t be monsters inside this event,” he said slowly, “Which means that thing isn’t a monster.”

He looked directly at the wolf, “It’s a pet.”

Without hesitation, Leon activated his ability.

Appraisal!

[Demonic Wolf]

[Level: 9]

[Rank: Mythical]

[Skills: ???]

[Combat Power: ???]

Leon studied the information carefully.

“Hm.”

A Mythical-rank beast. That alone made it extremely rare.

Leon’s own pet, the [Primordial Dragon of Chaos], was obviously stronger, and Celeste’s [Queen of Phoenix] talent was also superior.

But that didn’t mean this wolf was weak. Not even close.

In fact, this beast was incredibly dangerous.

Even though it was only level 9, the way pet levels worked was very different from player levels.

A level 9 mythical beast could easily defeat players around level 75 or even higher.

And while Pyra was a higher-ranked creature overall, she was still young and underleveled.

Right now, the demonic wolf was definitely stronger than her.

Leon slowly shifted his stance slightly. If a fight broke out, he was ready.

He had faced much worse enemies before.

Still, something about the situation felt strange.

And then… a voice suddenly echoed from above the beast.

“Stop, Vex.”

Leon and Celeste both looked up at the same time.

And only then did they notice something surprising.

Someone was sitting on the wolf’s back. Leon immediately activated [Appraisal] again.

[ID: DemonBeast]

[Level: 74]

[World: Delsos (High-Level World)]

[Talent: ???]

[Skills: ???]

[Combat Power: ???]

[Details: A member of the demon race who appears to specialize in controlling and fighting with beasts.]

Leon narrowed his eyes slightly. So this was [DemonBeast].

The player currently sitting in third place on the ranking.

The man sitting on the wolf slowly stood up.

He looked extremely imposing.

He was roughly two meters tall, with crimson skin and two large demonic horns curving upward from his head.

His eyes carried the same faint red glow as his pet.

He grinned widely when he looked at Leon.

“You are Celestial,” DemonBeast said.

Leon didn’t answer. But DemonBeast didn’t seem to mind.

“I’m not willing to fight you,” he continued calmly.

Celeste didn’t relax her stance at all.

“What do we do?” she whispered to Leon. “I think his pet is stronger than Pyra.”

Leon didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he quietly observed the man standing before them.

’DemonBeast…’

Leon searched his memory.

In his previous life, he didn’t recall anyone with that ID causing major problems later on.

Which meant this person probably wasn’t one of the major threats in the future.

’Or maybe he died early,’ Leon thought.

Either way, the man didn’t seem hostile. DemonBeast also looked very confident.

Not arrogant like some other players. Just calm.

Like someone who knew exactly what he was capable of.

Leon finally spoke

“Alright,” he said simply, “You can go.”

Celeste blinked slightly. But she trusted Leon’s judgment.

Leon himself believed he could win if they fought.

But that didn’t mean fighting was the best choice right now.

DemonBeast nodded once.

“Good.” Then he lightly tapped the side of his pet. The demonic wolf turned around.

“I didn’t want to release the others anyway,” DemonBeast added casually.

Leon raised an eyebrow, “The others?”

But before he could ask anything else—

Fwoosh!

The massive wolf sprinted forward at incredible speed.

Within seconds, DemonBeast and his pet disappeared back into the depths of the [Divine Jungle].

Celeste stared in the direction they had gone.

“What the hell was that?” she muttered, “I really thought we were going to fight.”

Leon simply shrugged, “Oh well.”

He crossed his arms casually.

“He’s in third place, but it’s not like he can catch up to us anymore.”

Celeste nodded slowly.

Still… Leon silently memorized that encounter.

Something about that guy felt… interesting. And especially that final comment.

It sounded like DemonBeast had more beasts under his control.

’I’ll keep that in mind,’ Leon thought.

Then Leon looked around the clearing. After a moment, a small grin appeared on his face.

“Alright,” he said, “I think we can rest here for a bit.”

Fwoosh!

The skeletons he had summoned quickly spread out around the clearing.

They positioned themselves in different directions like guards.

Anyone who tried to enter the clearing would be detected instantly.

Leon leaned back against one of the trees.

“You can rest,” he told Celeste. “I’ll keep watch.”

Celeste didn’t argue. She was clearly exhausted after fighting for so many hours.

“Thanks,” she said softly.

She sat down against another tree nearby and closed her eyes.

Within minutes, she had fallen asleep. Leon remained awake.1

His expression was calm as he stared quietly across the clearing.

The night air moved gently through the trees.

Time slowly passed. Leon used the quiet moment to think.

A lot had happened recently. And even more would happen soon.

’Once this event is over,’ he thought, ’I’ll finally gain access to the [Divine Academy].’

That was the entire point of participating in the event.

But Leon had no interest in becoming a normal student.

None of that mattered to him. The academy itself was what interested him.

More specifically…The people running it.

’The teachers… and the chairman.’

Leon would never forget them.

Just like he had destroyed the [Church of Light] and the [Shadow Assassin Guild], he intended to remove as many dangerous organizations as possible from the [Higher Domains].

And the [Divine Academy] was one of them.

The teachers and the chairman were all extremely powerful.

Most of them were around level 100. Taking them down wouldn’t be easy.

In fact, it might take weeks of preparation. But Leon wasn’t in a hurry.

As long as he acted before they gained even more power, he would have a chance.

The most important step right now was simply getting inside the academy.

And this event would give him that opportunity.

Hours continued to pass. The participant counter slowly kept dropping.

Ding!

[Players left: 300.]

Later—

Ding!

[Players left: 200.]

Leon barely reacted.

He simply continued watching the clearing while his skeletons patrolled the area.

And eventually, when the number of players dropped to around 150, Celeste finally woke up.

She stretched slightly before standing up.

“You should rest now while—”

“It’s fine,” Leon interrupted with a grin, “I don’t get tired easily.”

Celeste tilted her head slightly.

After using [Oblivion Meteor] twice and getting stronger, Leon knew his endurance was extremely high.

Compared to normal players, his stamina was almost endless.

Celeste laughed slightly, “Alright then.”

The two of them left the clearing. They began searching for the last remaining players.

At this stage, everyone left was strong. Some were hiding extremely well.

Others were hunting just like Leon and Celeste. But it didn’t matter.

It only took about an hour before the final panel appeared.

Ding!

[Only 100 players remain in the event.]

Leon stopped walking. Another message immediately followed.

Ding!

[The “Divine Academy Examination” is now over.]

[The top 10 participants will receive their rewards shortly.]

Leon couldn’t help but grin. He opened the ranking window one more time.

And the very top…

[1. Celestial: 2,547 Points.]

And right below him—

[2. UndyingPhoenix: 1,794 Points.]

He and Celeste had completely dominated the event. And it wasn’t even close.
