Chapter 91: Chapter91-An Old Acquaintance
"That’s it?"
John looked back at the city wall.
Outside, the line stretched for kilometers.
If he’d known it would be this easy.
Why the hell had he spent half an hour behind a garbage heap breathing in that stench?
John adjusted the dark green robe on his body.
After confirming there was nothing wrong with [Faceless Shadow Mask].
He walked out of the alley with his deadwood staff in hand.
Before long.
He blended into the crowd on the street.
...
Once he truly entered Night City.
John quickly realized something.
Although this place was called a "city."
In nature, it was actually quite similar to Dawnstar City.
To put it simply.
It was one enormous military camp.
There were ordinary residents, of course.
And plenty of taverns, shops, and blacksmiths.
But the most common sight on the streets.
Was still soldiers.
Organized Dark Realm legions could be seen everywhere.
Massive vehicles transporting supplies constantly rumbled along the main roads.
All kinds of war machines were piled along both sides of the streets.
In the distance, entire stretches of military camps could even be seen.
John didn’t wander around aimlessly.
His mission objective was perfectly clear.
Teleportation arrays.
Before entering the city.
He had already seen the largest spatial passage at the city center.
So as long as he searched around that area.
The other four shouldn’t be too difficult to locate.
And that was exactly the case.
It didn’t take long.
The first.
The second.
The third.
The fourth.
All confirmed.
John stood in the shadow of a building.
His gaze swept across the distance.
Five teleportation arrays.
The one in the center was the largest.
The four surrounding it were somewhat smaller.
And they weren’t particularly far apart from one another.
With the current coverage of his [Domain Expansion ×3].
Whether it was [Gravity Black Hole] or the newly learned [Sea of Flames].
Either could easily cover all five teleportation arrays at once.
"This quest is easier than I expected."
The thought had barely crossed John’s mind.
When, the next second.
His gaze landed beside the central teleportation array.
And then.
The smile on his face slowly disappeared.
Someone was standing there.
More precisely.
A giant.
More than five meters tall.
His entire body was covered in thick black armor.
Crimson hair spilled down from beneath the back of his helmet.
Two broad-bladed cleavers nearly three meters long were crossed over his back.
Whenever the soldiers around him passed by.
They all instinctively lowered their voices.
Even their footsteps became noticeably lighter.
John narrowed his eyes.
[Hunter’s Eye!]
Buzz—
His vision instantly locked onto the target.
The next second.
Information appeared.
[Grey]
[Level: Lv90]
[HP: ???]
[Physical Attack: ???]
[Spell Power: ???]
[Physical Defense: ???]
[Magic Defense: ???]
[Skills: ???]
[Talents: ???]
John’s pupils contracted slightly.
Lv90?
His [Hunter’s Eye] had already advanced to SS-rank.
In theory.
As long as a target wasn’t more than fifty levels above him, it could read fairly detailed information.
John was currently Lv36.
Grey was Lv90.
A full fifty-four-level gap.
Already beyond the detection limit.
John was just about to take another look.
When suddenly.
Grey moved in the distance.
The giant who had been standing beside the teleportation array with his eyes closed the entire time.
Opened them without warning.
Whoosh!
His head snapped toward John’s position!
Two points of dim yellow light.
From several hundred meters away.
Locked precisely onto him.
A chill instantly ran down John’s back.
Fuck!
He noticed me?
This was the first time anything like this had happened since John learned [Hunter’s Eye].
Before, the worst that happened was that he couldn’t see the target’s information.
But this time—
The instant he used detection.
The other party noticed immediately!
Without showing any reaction, John calmly shifted his gaze away.
He slowly shuffled forward with his deadwood staff.
Looking like the most ordinary old man imaginable.
Only after turning down two streets.
And completely leaving Grey’s line of sight.
Did he finally let out a quiet breath.
"Troublesome."
Lv80.
He couldn’t read the information.
And Grey could even sense [Hunter’s Eye].
Don’t tell me I just entered a major Dark Realm city.
And immediately ran into a Citybreaker Tier BOSS?
Worse yet, the guy was standing guard over the mission objective.
If John wanted to destroy the teleportation arrays.
He most likely wouldn’t be able to avoid him.
John thought for a while.
But still decided not to act recklessly.
The eight-hour limit was tight.
But it wasn’t yet time to force a fight.
First, he needed to find Aya.
At the very least, he should confirm his teammate was safe.
Then he could figure out what to do about Grey.
Just then.
The street ahead suddenly became noisy.
Clatter—
Dozens of fully armed Dark Realm soldiers rushed past from the side.
They were moving extremely quickly.
Clearly not on an ordinary patrol.
John’s eyes shifted.
He casually grabbed the soldier at the very back of the group.
"Brother."
The soldier didn’t stop moving.
He turned his head and glared at John.
"What?"
John lowered his voice.
"What happened?"
"Someone escaped from prison!"
The soldier threw out the answer.
Then hurried after the rest without looking back.
John: "..."
A prison break?
Andy?
Already?
He had just said the guards hadn’t noticed yet.
So the guy sent Aya into the tunnel with one foot.
And got exposed with the other?
John looked in the direction the soldiers had gone.
That way...
Seemed to be Night City’s western district.
The same direction as the tunnel Aya had entered!
He immediately followed.
Whether it was Andy or not.
He would go take a look first.
However.
John had only taken a few steps.
When a hand suddenly reached out from behind.
And gently rested on his shoulder.
John’s entire body tensed instantly.
Someone had approached him.
And he hadn’t noticed at all!
His right hand had already gripped the Void Staff.
At the same time, his left hand reached toward the [Fixed-Point Teleportation Scroll] inside the Void Arsenal.
"Aya?"
He abruptly turned around.
Then.
He froze.
"It’s actually you?"
...
The newcomer smiled.
Her eyes curved slightly.
"What?"
"Miss me?"
The Thorn Witch.
Rosaline!
John’s expression instantly turned serious.
Rosaline, however, seemed completely oblivious to his wariness.
Instead, she reached out.
And lightly tapped his chest.
"Running around Night City carrying my badge."
"I sensed you the moment you entered the city."
The smile at the corner of her lips deepened.
"What a naughty little thing."
John didn’t answer.
His left hand had already quietly closed around the teleportation scroll.
Back at the Underground Cathedral of the Holy Candle.
The two of them had indeed worked together.
Strictly speaking.
John had even helped her remove a seal from a fragment of her soul. Rosaline had even promised to treat him to better tea the next time they met.
But that had been in the Human Realm.
And this.
Was the Dark Realm.
Rosaline was also one of the Dark Realm’s Twelve Witches.
When it came to allegiances.
Who could say for sure?
John stared at her.
"Are you planning to capture me."
"Or kill me?"
Rosaline froze for a moment.
Then couldn’t help laughing.
"Hehe..."
"Neither."
She withdrew her hand.
Then turned toward a secluded alley nearby.
"Come with me."
John didn’t move.
Rosaline took a few steps.
As though she had guessed what he was worried about.
Without turning around, she added.
"Relax."
"That little companion of yours is with me too."
John fell silent for two seconds.
Rosaline continued deeper into the alley.
"Put your mind at ease."
"If I really wanted to hurt the two of you."
"I wouldn’t be standing here chatting with you right now."
John watched her back.
Then lowered his gaze to the teleportation scroll in his hand.
In the end, he didn’t loosen his grip.
But he still started walking.
And followed her.
