Chapter 122 -122-Mystic Watch Fragment
Chapter 122: Chapter122-Mystic Watch Fragment
Aya took the key and followed after him.
The ancient bronze key slid into the keyhole at the center of the massive door.
Click.
A dull mechanical rumble came from somewhere behind it.
Immediately afterward, lines of magical runes lit up across the door, spreading outward in every direction.
The heavy metal doors slowly parted.
A faint wave of mana washed over them.
Aya had looked completely casual just moments ago.
But the instant she saw what lay inside, her eyes lit up.
"Whoa..."
John stopped as well.
The treasury was far more extravagant than he had imagined.
A vast hall stretched deep into the distance.
Rows upon rows of towering display racks lined both sides.
Weapons.
Armor.
Scrolls.
Skill books.
Rare materials.
Potions.
And all kinds of strange special items he couldn’t even name, each sealed inside its own magical barrier.
Farther inside were stairways and corridors leading toward other sections of the treasury.
Some of the equipment radiated astonishing light even from a distance.
Gold.
Crimson.
Deep violet.
Countless colors intertwined, illuminating the entire treasury.
Compared to this place...
Even the treasury of Night City looked somewhat shabby.
Aya stood at the entrance clutching the key, her eyes practically glued to everything in sight.
"Boss."
"This place..."
"Is loaded."
John nodded in complete agreement.
"It really is."
Though after thinking about it, it made sense.
The Human Realm had enjoyed relatively stable conditions for many years.
While the major cities still competed and occasionally clashed with one another, most of the time they maintained a functioning order.
Resources could accumulate.
Equipment could be preserved and passed down from generation to generation.
Dawnstar City was also one of humanity’s most important frontline cities.
It had been operating for countless years.
Naturally, the wealth accumulated in its treasury was staggering.
The Dark Realm was completely different.
Wars broke out constantly.
Legions were deployed year-round.
Whenever valuable equipment or rare resources appeared, much of it would immediately be handed out to powerful individuals as Military Merit rewards.
On top of that, the major factions beneath the Night King were constantly competing among themselves.
As a result, there actually weren’t that many truly valuable items that could remain untouched in a treasury for years.
Compared like this...
It was perfectly reasonable for the Human Realm’s treasury to be obscenely rich.
After splitting up with Aya, John made his way deeper inside.
At first, he was still rather excited.
But after inspecting several items in a row, his expression gradually became calm.
[Skybreaker Holy Spear]
[Quality: SSS]
[Requirement: Lv80]
[Greatly increases Physical Attack. Attacks gain an additional Holy Light penetration effect...]
John looked at it for a few seconds.
Then put it back.
Next.
[Holy Codex of Life]
[Quality: SSS]
[Effect: Permanently increases HP by a large amount upon use and grants one instance of protection against Lethal Damage...]
Not bad.
But that was about it.
Next.
[World-Breaking Teleportation Scroll]
[Quality: SSS]
[Effect: Ignores most spatial seals and forcibly teleports the user to a designated safe area...]
John stared at it in silence for a moment.
Then put it back too.
"..."
This was bad.
His standards really had gotten ridiculous.
In the past, if he saw an SSS-rank item, he would have wanted to grab it on the spot.
Now three SSS-rank items had been placed right in front of him.
And somehow...
They felt a little lacking.
There was nothing he could do about it.
He had simply seen too many good things lately.
Aya had practically emptied half of Night City’s treasury.
John himself already had an SSS-rank Void Staff, an SSS-rank greatsword, an SSS-rank Leviathan, along with a huge collection of rare scrolls and special items.
Ordinary SSS-rank equipment no longer held nearly as much appeal to him.
"Keep looking."
It wasn’t every day that he got the chance to freely choose one item from Dawnstar City’s treasury.
Taking something he could eventually obtain through other means would be a waste.
John continued deeper inside.
He passed through the equipment section.
Then the materials section.
Eventually, he entered an area filled with miscellaneous special items.
The things stored here were noticeably more chaotic.
Incomplete maps.
Unidentifiable ores.
Ancient letters.
Broken weapons.
There were even strange accessories that had already lost whatever powers they once possessed.
Many of the items didn’t even have a clearly recorded purpose.
They looked more like ancient relics collected by generations of Dawnstar City residents.
John had only been glancing around casually.
Then his footsteps suddenly stopped.
On a stone pedestal in the corner, a faint rainbow glow seeped out from between a pile of miscellaneous objects.
It was extremely subtle.
Anyone who wasn’t paying attention could easily miss it.
"Hmm?"
John walked over.
He moved several objects aside.
A broken piece of metal appeared before him.
It was only about half the size of his palm.
Its edges were jagged and uneven.
Its surface was visibly worn with age.
Looking closer, he could still make out fragments of engraved markings and several exquisitely crafted gears.
It looked like...
A pocket watch?
John picked it up.
He quickly confirmed his guess.
More precisely...
It was a fragment of a pocket watch.
Rainbow-colored light slowly flowed between the broken gears.
John activated Hunter’s Eye.
[Mystic Watch Fragment]
[Rank: ???]
[Description: ???]
John’s eyes immediately lit up.
His SS-rank Hunter’s Eye...
Couldn’t see through it!
It couldn’t even determine the item’s rank.
That alone made this thing far more interesting than all those brightly glowing SSS-rank items sitting openly on the shelves.
More importantly...
This was only a fragment.
A single fragment was already enough to render Hunter’s Eye useless.
If the entire watch could somehow be restored...
What rank would the completed item be?
Divine?
Or something even higher?
John looked down at the fragment in his hand.
It didn’t take him long to make his decision.
"You’re the one."
The moment the words left his mouth, an elderly voice suddenly came from behind him.
"Not a bad eye."
John’s body stiffened.
He spun around.
The white-bearded old man was standing behind him without John having any idea when he had arrived.
His back was still slightly hunched.
And now he was holding a wooden cane that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
Just moments ago, the old man had clearly been sleeping beside the treasury entrance.
John hadn’t sensed him enter at all.
"..."
This old guy was getting more ridiculous by the second.
The old man glanced at the watch fragment in John’s hand.
For once, a hint of interest appeared in his lone eye.
Then he looked John over.
"Good item."
"Don’t lose it."
With that, he offered no explanation.
He simply turned around and slowly walked away with his cane.
John remained where he was, watching the hunched figure disappear behind the rows of shelves.
His confidence in his choice grew even stronger.
If an old monster of that level had gone out of his way to give him a warning...
There was definitely something unusual about this item.
And most likely, unusual in a very good way.
John lowered his gaze.
Then stored the watch fragment inside the Void Arsenal.
