Chapter 120: Chapter120-SSS-Rank Mount

[SSS-Rank Mount Evolution Card]

[Use on mount "Leviathan"?]

"Use it."

The card instantly dissolved into rainbow-colored light.

Every strand of it poured into Leviathan’s icon.

[Evolution successful!]

[Leviathan’s quality has increased!]

[SS-Rank → SSS-Rank!]

[Base growth greatly increased!]

[Existing skills enhanced!]

A brand-new status panel unfolded before him.

[Leviathan]

[Always active!]

...

[Teleport Lv1]

[Effect: Allows Leviathan to teleport itself and its master to any location whose teleportation array coordinates have been recorded.]

[Current Maximum Teleportation Range: 30 km]

[Cooldown: 5 seconds]

John’s eyes lit up completely.

True Sight had gone from an active skill to a passive one.

Its detection range had increased.

It could even detect targets that had entered a Void State.

Teleport’s range had also jumped straight to thirty kilometers.

And it only had a five-second cooldown.

"Now that’s good."

The next time he ran into an assassin who could turn invisible and wanted to ambush him?

They could ask Leviathan first.

And as for traveling...

Thirty-kilometer teleports combined with flight.

Plenty of places that once required long detours could now be crossed directly.

John was just about to summon it when his movements suddenly stopped.

A very unpleasant memory surfaced in his mind.

The first time he had summoned Ice Rose...

That turtle had landed and flattened the entire tent beneath it.

Leviathan might only be Lv1.

But with a name like that, there was no way it was some pocket-sized mount.

John silently glanced around the military camp.

Forget it.

Better move somewhere else.

...

Outside the military camp.

John found a wide stretch of open ground.

After making sure there was plenty of space around him, he finally raised a hand.

"Come out."

A rainbow-colored summoning array spread across the ground.

An immense presence slowly rose from within it.

Then—

A gigantic silhouette emerged from the light.

John tilted his head upward slightly.

Even at only Lv1, Leviathan was already nearly five meters long.

Its overall appearance was somewhere between a dragon and some enormous deep-sea beast.

Its body was long and streamlined.

A pair of broad, dark wings grew from its back.

Rainbow-colored glimmers constantly flowed across the surface of its scales.

Long crystalline horns extended backward from either side of its head.

Its tail left faint trails of spatial light behind it.

It hovered just above the ground.

Its wings barely even moved.

Yet the surrounding air seemed to support its massive body on its own.

John walked around it once.

He couldn’t have been more satisfied.

It was already this large at Lv1.

Once it reached dozens of levels...

Or even Lv100...

That sight would probably be ridiculous.

"Down."

Leviathan slowly lowered its body.

John swung himself onto its back.

His field of view immediately rose several meters.

"Pretty stable."

Leviathan let out a deep cry.

The next second—

Its body gently rose into the air.

John barely felt any turbulence at all.

He had Leviathan circle the nearby area once.

Its speed was also far beyond that of ordinary mounts.

"All right."

"There’ll be plenty of time to fly later."

He patted Leviathan on the back.

Rainbow light flashed.

The enormous mount returned to the Void Arsenal.

Now...

It was time to see Loki.

...

Before long, the central command tent appeared in sight.

The guards saw John approaching.

By now, they were already used to him.

They didn’t even bother stopping him.

John lifted the tent flap and stepped inside.

Loki was studying a map.

Hearing the movement, he looked up.

The moment he saw John, a smile appeared on his face.

"You finally came."

John pulled out a chair and sat down.

"Didn’t you say you had something to talk to me about yesterday?"

"You can tell me now."

Loki suddenly fell silent.

He put down the document in his hand and stared at John for quite a while, as though seriously considering something.

John found the look a little strange.

"What?"

Loki finally spoke.

"Endbringer."

"Would you be interested in..."

"Taking my position?"

John: "?"

He glanced at Loki’s chair.

Then at the empty chairs nearby.

"Which one do you want me to sit in?"

Loki’s mouth twitched.

"I mean my position."

He took a deep breath.

"Commander of Dawnstar City."

"Want the job?"

John: "..."

This time, it was his turn to fall silent.

"What do I get for being commander?"

Loki thought for a moment.

"Command over Dawnstar City’s military forces."

"What else?"

"The highest level of command authority on the front line."

"Does it increase my stats?"

"No."

"Exclusive equipment?"

"Not at the moment."

John continued.

"Can I take whatever I want from the treasury?"

Loki immediately became wary.

"Of course not."

"Then I’m not doing it."

The answer came so quickly that Loki was left speechless for several seconds.

"You..."

"You’re really turning it down?"

John looked back at him.

"It’s exhausting, comes with a ton of responsibility, and I still can’t take whatever I want."

"Why would I do it?"

Loki opened his mouth.

For once, he genuinely couldn’t think of a counterargument.

After a brief silence, he pulled a letter from the table and tossed it to John.

"Read this first."

John caught it.

On the front of the envelope was a familiar Church emblem.

The instant he saw it, memories of what had happened before surfaced in his mind.

The Church deacon.

Sunset City.

And the arrangement that had sent him to the front line.

John tore open the envelope and quickly skimmed through the letter.

The contents weren’t complicated.

The Church was still pursuing the matter of the deacon’s death.

They were demanding that Dawnstar City cooperate in dealing with him.

John finished reading and tossed the letter back onto the table.

"They’re still not done?"

Back then, the Lord of Sunset City had sent him to the front line partly as a way to temporarily balance the conflict between both sides.

For an ordinary person sent here, earning enough Military Merit to leave would have taken a very long time.

Who could have imagined that John had barely been here for long before his Military Merit broke past one million?

He had even fought his way into the Dark Realm, destroyed five massive teleportation arrays, and returned alive.

Clearly, the Church hadn’t expected him to get out of the front line this quickly either.

Loki looked somewhat helpless.

"The military has a great deal of influence on the front line."

"But once you return to the kingdom, things become much more complicated."

"The Church has more influence than you think."

"If you’re willing to take my place as Commander of Dawnstar City, I can use the military system to give you more room to maneuver."

John immediately waved him off.

"No."

"Just hear me—"

"No."

Loki shut his mouth.

John leaned back in his chair, his expression calm.

Take a position he had absolutely no interest in just because the Church was putting pressure on him?

What kind of joke was that?

The thing he hated most in life was being forced into someone else’s choice.

It didn’t matter who was doing the forcing.

Loki stared at him for a long time.

Finally, he sighed.

"Then there’s nothing more I can do."

John was just about to stand up when—

CLANG!

A sword cry suddenly rang out!
