On a Stormy Night, the Campus Belle Knocked on My Door Seeking Shelter
Chapter 238: It Turns Out Confessing Is Really This Difficult
After hearing what Wang Susu had to say, Su Yuqing only felt more lost.
Wang Susu’s bold declarations—"be brave," "don’t be afraid to fail," "don’t live with regrets"—were like a fierce gust of wind that sent her heart fluttering, yet left her feeling completely adrift.
She had to admit, Wang Susu was brave. The courage to confess to someone when you’re practically strangers, an act bordering on reckless—that was something Su Yuqing could only dream of.
Just imagining herself standing before Chen Mo, looking into his deep, calm eyes, and saying the three words "I love you" was enough to make her heart pound as if it would burst from her chest, her cheeks burning hot enough to fry an egg.
Let alone continuing with the second part, something like, "Please go out with me."
"A relationship built on impulse"... Wang Susu’s words had been a wake-up call.
Her relationship with Chen Mo could no longer be summed up by the single word "impulse."
What flowed between them was the companionship of day after day, an unspoken understanding, a warmth that had long since woven itself into the fabric of their lives.
It was the silent approval from Chen Mo’s parents. It was his daily, thoughtful care. It was the elaborate surprise he had prepared for her birthday party. It was the accidental brush of their fingertips on the sofa and the peace she felt snuggled beside him. It was the thrill at the top of the Ferris wheel, a feeling that nearly burst from her chest but was solemnly suppressed...
All of those feelings, all of those experiences, had settled heavily in the depths of her heart. They had long since transcended naive impulse, pointing toward a more distant, more certain future.
"With a relationship like yours, you absolutely need a well-thought-out, fully prepared confession to do your love justice." Wang Susu’s final summary was like a pebble dropped into a calm lake, sending ripples of agreement through Su Yuqing’s heart.
’That’s exactly what I was thinking!’
She wanted a formal beginning, a ceremony worthy of the profound feelings between them.
A starting point that, for all the long years to come, they could both look back on with a knowing smile and a warmth in their hearts.
She just simply didn’t know how to do it. She was completely lost.
"Susu, thank you for telling me all this." Su Yuqing took a deep breath, trying to calm the heart that was still racing from the topic of "confession." She gave Wang Susu a sincere, if somewhat dazed, smile. "But I honestly have no idea how to ’prepare elaborately’."
Wang Susu looked at the mix of determination and confusion on Su Yuqing’s face and patted her shoulder knowingly. "You two are different from us—we were just a blind squirrel finding a nut. This isn’t something you can figure out in a day or two. Tell me some more gossip about you two over the next few days, and I can help you brainstorm."
She grinned carefreely and waved. "I’m gonna head out. Ah Qiang is waiting for me!"
Watching Wang Susu’s whirlwind departure, Su Yuqing was left standing alone as the afternoon wind, carrying a hint of coolness, brushed through her hair.
The setting sun, nearing dusk, stretched her shadow long across the ground, just like her tangled thoughts.
She subconsciously clutched the notebook in her arms.
It was filled with densely packed notes, "relationship tips" she had gathered indirectly: how to care for your partner, how to create small surprises, the importance of shared topics... But the most crucial page, the one for "Confession," remained blank, save for a few hesitant, crossed-out words.
’Wang Susu’s experience is no use to me. So what should I do?’
’Elaborate preparations... what’s elaborate enough? What kind of setting would be right? The graduation ceremony? His next birthday? Or... a special day, just the two of us? What should I say? Should I be direct and say "I love you," or express it more subtly? Should I prepare a gift? What kind of gift would be appropriate? Something symbolic, like a wedding ring?’
Countless questions popped up in her mind like bubbles, making her feel both excited and anxious.
She opened her notebook and looked at the neat handwriting. Her fingertips unconsciously traced over her "strategies" before finally stopping on the blank page.
"So confessing really is this hard..."
She muttered to herself, recalling some of the romance anime and manga she had read.
In those stories, the main characters’ feelings would reach a point where everyone saw them as a couple, yet they would never get around to confessing to each other.
Back when she was reading those fictional works, Su Yuqing would feel like tearing her hair out in frustration for the two characters.
It always felt like every moment they spent together could have been the perfect opportunity for them to confess, but the words were never spoken.
At the time, she’d just thought the author was deliberately dragging things out.
Now that she was facing it herself, she finally understood just how difficult confessing truly was.
She remembered the night Chen Mo had gently covered her with a thin blanket. She remembered the deep look in his eyes as he restrained himself from getting closer, choosing instead to protect her sleep. She remembered him calling it a "family dinner."
That cherished feeling, that earnestness that had already planned for a future together—she couldn’t bear the thought of letting it down.
Her confession had to carry that same weight!
Su Yuqing picked up her pen and, on the blank page, neatly wrote two words: [Confession Plan].
Her pen hovered over the page. As she stared at those two words, her confusion hadn’t entirely vanished, but a heavy sense of determination began to grow within her.
’Wang Susu’s path is not for me, so I’ll just have to find my own.’
For the person she had already chosen in her heart, for the beginning that deserved all the formality in the world, she was willing to rack her brains to prepare a one-of-a-kind confession.
"DING DONG DONG DONG, DING DONG DONG DONG!"
The bell for the last class of the afternoon rang. Su Yuqing closed her notebook and held it tightly against her chest, as if drawing strength from it.
The road ahead was long, and her ideas were still vague, but the direction was already clear: for Chen Mo, and for their shared future, she would personally orchestrate that all-important ceremony.
No matter how long it took to prepare, no matter how nerve-wracking the process, she would press forward without a second thought.
The wind rustled through the leaves, as if playing an accompaniment to the young woman’s secret plan.
A sweet, expectant smile unconsciously bloomed on Su Yuqing’s lips.
Over the next few days, Chen Mo noticed that Su Yuqing’s behavior was becoming more and more mysterious.
And even though the college entrance exams were fast approaching, she was still studying hard, soaking up as many of his study tips as she could.
Yet in her spare time, whenever she had a free moment, she would be on her phone scrolling through romance manga.
It was as if her attitude toward studying was both intense and lax at the same time.
Normally at this stage, everyone was so anxious they wished they could split one day into two just to review everything they had learned.
They were desperate to increase their exam scores by even a single point. Who on earth would be in the mood to read romance manga at a time like this?
