Chapter 192: The Longed-For Future

When she first started the game and saw the two cute squirrels, Su Yuqing found it quite interesting.

At the beginning, Chen Mo was teaching Su Yuqing how to play like normal.

The little squirrels could pick up boxes and throw them to attack enemies.

Once Su Yuqing gradually got the hang of how to play, she started to feel the joy of the game.

However, Chen Mo had chosen this game with mischievous intentions.

The game had friendly fire and ways to mess with your teammate.

Just as Su Yuqing was fully absorbed in the game, playing normally, the squirrel controlled by Chen Mo suddenly picked up the squirrel controlled by Su Yuqing.

Su Yuqing turned to look at Chen Mo in surprise. She saw him smirking. "You can pick up your teammate in this game."

With that, Chen Mo tossed the squirrel she was controlling.

As soon as she landed, Su Yuqing immediately chased after him and grabbed the squirrel he was controlling.

Watching the two of them fool around in the game, Grandpa couldn’t help but recall the times when Chen Mo played this same game with Chu Mengyao as a child.

It was the same back then. They would start by cooperating normally to fight monsters, but as soon as one of them started a prank, the fun of the game became about sabotaging each other.

They would always pick up their teammate and throw them at enemies, or into an empty space. Whenever they successfully messed with their teammate, they would giggle happily.

Watching these two big kids fooling around like this, Grandpa found it uniquely amusing. He sat on the sofa behind them, a fond, happy smile on his face as he watched their backs.

He couldn’t help but think, ’It would be wonderful if these two kids could really end up together.’

Ordinarily, Chen Mo’s game console was supposed to be sealed away during high school.

Today, it was purely because Su Yuqing was here that Grandpa and Grandma let him play.

Of course, Chen Mo was past the age of being obsessed with games.

He was simply accompanying Su Yuqing to make up for some of the fun she missed in her childhood.

After playing the squirrel game for a while, Chen Mo then had Su Yuqing play other co-op games like Snow Bros. and Puzzle Bobble.

He wanted Su Yuqing to properly experience the joy of playing games with a friend.

After playing for over two hours, their stomachs had digested some of their food.

Su Yuqing still wanted to play more, but after they beat one of the games, Chen Mo stood up and said with a smile, "We shouldn’t play for too long, or it’ll be bad for our eyes. Let’s go for a walk outside."

This was a good habit Grandpa had instilled in Chen Mo since he was a child.

Grandpa usually only allowed Chen Mo to play games for an hour straight. Afterward, he had to go for a walk in the nearby park to stretch his legs and look at some greenery to protect his eyesight.

Today, Grandpa didn’t say anything because Su Yuqing was so absorbed in playing, but Chen Mo stopped the game on his own initiative.

Hearing Chen Mo’s suggestion, Su Yuqing didn’t refuse. She nodded, put down the controller, said goodbye to Grandpa, and then went out with Chen Mo.

Soon after, Grandma came out carrying two bowls of longan soup, but she didn’t see the two kids. "Where are the children?"

"They played for too long, so they went for a walk in the park," Grandpa said with a happy chuckle.

"Kids these days start dating so much earlier than we did," Grandma said, setting down the two bowls of soup. She squinted her eyes with a smile as she looked toward the door.

"The earlier, the better! It would be even better if they could give us a great-grandson or great-granddaughter to dote on within two years of graduating high school," Grandpa said, smiling as he imagined the future. "While these old bones of mine can still move, I want to at least be there for Momo’s child’s entire childhood. After all, Ah Miao and Xiaoxi are always out and about and never home. If those two have a kid in the future, we’ll have to help look after it anyway."

"Postpartum nannies and babysitters are very popular now. I’m afraid they won’t need us two old folks in the future," Grandma lamented.

"How could that be the same? Just the other day, I saw a story about nannies and babysitters abusing children. I wouldn’t feel at ease entrusting them completely to outsiders. Even if I can’t physically take care of them anymore, I’d at least have to be there watching," Grandpa said immediately.

"The two of them haven’t even graduated from high school yet, and you’re already thinking about all this. It’s hard to say if they’ll even end up together," Grandma sighed.

Just because they have fun playing together doesn’t mean they can easily get together and stay together for a lifetime.

Although Grandma currently felt that the two kids got along well, and she was quite fond of Su Yuqing, when it came to children’s affairs, adults like them could only get a rough idea of what was going on.

In the park, as Su Yuqing and Chen Mo walked side by side, they were still occasionally discussing their thoughts and experiences from the game.

Chen Mo smiled and responded to each of her points, teaching her a few gaming tricks as well.

Chen Mo hadn’t expected Su Yuqing to enjoy playing games so much.

"If you like gaming, I’ll teach you how to play mobile games later," Chen Mo said with a chuckle.

Su Yuqing glanced at Chen Mo, smiled, and nodded, but she didn’t say anything more.

In truth, it wasn’t that she liked playing games; she just liked the person she was playing them with.

The two of them strolled through the park for a while. Taking in the fresh air and the vast green scenery, they truly felt their bodies and minds relax.

After walking for about an hour, Chen Mo received a message from his grandfather.

The afternoon opera was about to start, and the area was already getting lively. Grandpa told Chen Mo to bring Su Yuqing back so they could go have fun over by the stage.

Mainly, it was because there were a lot of delicious things to eat over there.

By now, they had digested their lunch, and it was time to start the afternoon’s festivities.

Soon, Chen Mo brought Su Yuqing back to his grandparents’ house, where Grandpa was already waiting at the door.

"Su Yuqing, have you ever seen an opera before?" Grandpa asked, smiling at her.

"I’ve seen one with my maternal grandmother," Su Yuqing replied with a sweet smile.

"Do you like it?"

"It’s okay. I don’t really understand it," Su Yuqing said. She was similar to Chen Mo; she only had a vague understanding of the plot when it was sung in an operatic style. Kids just don’t have much interest in things they can’t understand.

In the past, she had only gone to the opera to accompany her grandmother, simply because she liked spending time with her.

As for what was actually being sung on stage, she never paid any attention at all.

All she heard was a series of warbles—it was like singing, but not quite.

The mix of speaking and singing only made her more confused.

She often fell asleep in her grandmother’s arms halfway through the performance.

By the time her grandmother woke her up, the opera would already be over.

Hearing Su Yuqing’s answer, Grandpa knew she was just like Chen Mo and wasn’t very into this sort of thing.

A child who actually liked and understood opera wouldn’t act like this.

Grandpa didn’t mind. After all, he was just taking them there to join in the fun.

"Don’t worry. Besides the opera, there are lots of tasty snacks over there. I’ll have Momo take you to try some later," Grandpa said to Su Yuqing with a loving smile.
