Chapter 191: I Want to Play with You

Grandpa came over and rummaged through a nearby cabinet, finding it completely full of game cartridges.

"Look, Momo’s game cartridges are still well-preserved," Grandpa said with a smile. "If you want to play, they should still work fine. I’ll help you set it up."

When Chen Mo was a child, his grandpa was always the one who helped him set up the games he wanted to play.

He still knew exactly what to do.

He quickly got the console displaying on the screen; now, all they had to do was insert a game cartridge to start playing.

Grandpa brought over two small chairs and placed them in front of the TV. "Sit here and play. The controller cords aren’t long enough to reach the sofa."

Su Yuqing looked hesitantly at the large pile of game cartridges beside her. Although she had never played them herself, she had seen others play before.

She understood that different cartridges represented different games, but she wasn’t sure which one to pick.

She looked to Chen Mo for help.

Chen Mo thought for a moment, then immediately started rummaging through the cartridges.

He soon found a multi-game cartridge and inserted it into the console.

As he pressed the reset button, the TV screen flickered, and a long list of games appeared for them to choose from.

"If you’re a beginner, you could try this one. *Circus* is pretty fun." Chen Mo selected a game called *Circus*.

Su Yuqing held the controller, a little unsure of what to do. Chen Mo smiled, placed his hand over her small one, and taught her how to start the game.

As the game began, a cheerful little tune started to play.

On the left side of the screen, a clown was riding a lion, while from the right, rings of fire continuously moved toward them.

"See? The directional pad moves him left and right, and the B button makes him jump. If you press a direction and the B button at the same time, he’ll jump that way. Simple, right? Look, a ring of fire is coming. We need to back up a little, then get a running start. When you get close, press the B button immediately..."

As Chen Mo spoke and demonstrated, the clown on the screen smoothly rode its lion through the ring of fire, earning some points in the process.

Su Yuqing’s interest was piqued, and she was eager to try it for herself.

"Alright, your turn to try. See that fire pot on the ground? You have to jump over it, just like the rings of fire."

After giving this piece of advice, Chen Mo let go of Su Yuqing’s hand, allowing her to take control.

Even though Su Yuqing hadn’t played many games before, she was not clumsy with the controls in the slightest.

With Chen Mo’s guidance, she easily cleared the first fire pot and ring of fire on her own.

However, as she continued forward, she suddenly encountered a ring of fire positioned directly above a fire pot.

Startled, she immediately retreated.

Seeing this, Chen Mo chuckled. "Don’t be scared. In this situation, just jump as if it were a normal ring of fire. You’ll clear the fire pot at the same time."

Su Yuqing nodded. After clearing the next simple ring of fire, she deliberately waited for another one to align with a fire pot before attempting the jump.

Just as Chen Mo had said, she followed his instructions and cleared it with ease.

Just as she was getting the hang of it, she suddenly saw a smaller, higher ring of fire that seemed to have a money bag in the center.

"That’s a bonus ring. It won’t hit you if you don’t jump, so you can just let it pass," Chen Mo explained with a smile. "Of course, if you want a challenge, you can get a running start and jump through it for bonus points."

Su Yuqing was up for a challenge, so she decided to risk it.

But the lion’s belly got caught on the ring of fire. "Ah!"

She cried out in surprise.

"It’s okay, it’s okay! You just lost one life, and you still have several left. See these clown heads here? That’s how many chances you have. Don’t worry."

Chen Mo said with a smile, pointing to the clown heads on the screen.

Only then did Su Yuqing understand.

Having learned her lesson, she now had a much better feel for the game and easily made it to the end of the stage.

"Jump onto that platform, and you’ll clear the stage," Chen Mo continued to guide her with a smile.

Watching them from the side, Grandpa felt as if he were transported back to Chen Mo’s childhood. The memory of Chen Mo playing games with Chu Mengyao was still vivid in his mind.

’He had thought those two kids would end up together.’

Back on the screen, Su Yuqing had already reached the second stage.

The second stage was tightrope walking, with monkeys constantly coming at her along the rope.

"This stage is similar to the first one. You just have to jump over the monkeys," Chen Mo continued to instruct Su Yuqing. "But some of the monkeys are close together, so you can’t always use the B button for a big jump. You can try using the A button for a small hop instead."

Looking at the cute little monkeys on the screen, Su Yuqing didn’t find them scary in the slightest.

In fact, she found them rather fun.

However, as she was happily jumping along, Chen Mo was already getting ready to watch the show.

Sure enough, before Su Yuqing could react, an extremely fast blue monkey suddenly charged in from the right.

This monkey could even jump.

A moment too slow to react, Su Yuqing was knocked straight to the ground by the blue monkey.

"That’s one of the tricky parts of this stage. You have to be careful," Chen Mo explained with a laugh.

Su Yuqing wasn’t discouraged, however. Instead, she found that the challenge made it even more fun.

Su Yuqing was defeated by the blue monkey a second time, but by her third attempt, she had already gotten the hang of it.

With ease, she successfully passed the second stage.

But so far, she had only experienced the fun of playing a game by herself.

’But when two people are sitting together, is one person always just supposed to watch the other play?’

Su Yuqing could clearly see two controllers connected to the console. She looked at Chen Mo and asked, "Can’t you play with me?"

"This is a single-player game. There’s no co-op mode."

"Then pick one with a co-op mode. I want..." Su Yuqing stopped herself, having almost blurted out, ’I want to play with you.’

But she immediately caught herself.

Chen Mo smiled and said, "You want to play with me? Alright, then. I’ll find some games we can play together."

Just then, Grandpa suddenly chimed in, "Isn’t *Contra* a two-player game?"

"That shooting and combat-style game isn’t suitable for girls," Chen Mo said immediately.

Grandpa heard this and thought it made sense. Soon, Chen Mo had selected a game called *Chip ’n Dale Rescue Rangers*.

"This two-player game is pretty good." He started the game with a mischievous grin on his face.
