Chapter 2647: King Yama Descends

The white flames blazed through the area as it covered the entire courtyard where the ceremonial altar is. The iron door finally opened, and two large beings came out of it dressed fully armored. One had the head of a horse while the other has the head of a bull. These two were the guardians of the eastern underworld and serves as their gatekeepers.

The presence of the two divine guards made all of those that were near feel fear as the might of divine beings have rarely happened upon in the eastern continent. The two divine guards looked around to see if there was any threat and then casted their gaze on the Envoy of the Twin Gods and the Champion of the Twin Gods. Adrian and Levin Cloud slightly nodded their head towards the two divine guards which made the latter bow down in return.

Seeing that there was no immediate danger, the iron door that was only partly opened finally morphed to the real door where the King of the Underworld Yama will come out of. The iron door suddenly morphed into a large eastern demon looking mouth. When the jaws of the mouth opened, a burst of white flames came out of it and formed a carpet.

After the flaming white carpet was formed, a large pedestal that flew by itself in flaming wheels came out. On top of the pedestal is a young-looking man that had both a regal and divine presence. This was the current appearance of the ruler of the eastern underworld, King Yama. Only Adrian and Levin Cloud could see his true form though as the others only see a being bathe in pure white flames with red eyes.

The reason for the young look of King Yama is simple because this is his current iteration. He is unique in the line of gods of the underworld as he often reincarnates when most of his power is gone. The reason for this is due to the fact that the eastern underworld is unstable at the moment because of what happened before. The people of the eastern continent do not revere or pray to him which is why King Yama himself uses his own divine energy to keep the eastern underworld running.

Due to this sacrifice, the God of Death Abaddon himself bestowed King Yama the gift of everlasting rebirth. This is to make sure that King Yama would always be at full power even when he exhausts himself. He would also be reborn slightly stronger than before which means he is currently one of the most powerful gods of death that are present right now.

“To think that this old ritual is still viable and able to call for me. Then again, if the Envoy and Champion are the ones that performed it then you would have summoned me instead of a lesser god of death under me.” King Yama stated.

“Apologies for the sudden audience, your majesty. We do not have time to dilly dally since you know of the current state of the eastern continent.” Adrian stated.

“I know what is happening to the eastern continent and I have no right to even help you right now. Tell me, what is so important that you willingly will break taboo to summon me.” King Yama stated.

“Before that, maybe you should ease up on the pressure. They will likely end up in your domain because of suffocation.” Levin Cloud stated as he could see that all of the beings inside the Dragon Lake Palace were having trouble breathing due to the presence of King Yama.

“Very well. I will just erase their memories of me after the ritual ends.” King Yama stated as he lifted the pressure he was exerting and made the other breathe normally. Some even fainted but they recovered without problems after a few minutes.

The reason why King Yama does not want to be known by the people of the eastern continent is due to a simple fact. He has gone too long without prayers directed to him that he now finds them troublesome if people direct their faith to him. He is a powerful god of death that do not need the faith of the people to be powerful and as such grown used to it. The eastern continent is also the area where most reincarnations happen because of the system set up by gods of death here.

A reincarnation system that does not discriminate and let the deeds of the living life dictate on what they become. An evil and powerful rich man could reincarnate as a cockroach in their next life if they are not good. This also made sure that the Eastern Gods of Death are not heavily tied to the living which makes their jobs easier.

The only people that know of the Eastern Gods of Death are the fallen gods and the divine beasts, but they do not worship them. A divine being cannot give faith to another divine being after all and the fallen gods do not even bother to speak about them. Some of the fallen gods have even been to the eastern underworld as they have the quickest queue when it comes to reincarnation due to the curse that bound them.

The gods of life and death that are under the God of Death Abaddon and the Goddess Gaea are all excluded from the curse of mortality because of their jobs. The eastern gods of life and death that are still gods now actually predate the fallen gods which means they are older and stronger than them when they were at their peak. If the older eastern gods of life and death were part of the rebellion against the Corrupted Yellow Emperor before then lots of gods would have still lived but they were also busy against dark and distorted gods at the time.

“What do you want me to do, envoy and champion? I already gave you a pass the first time you have tried to summon me. What do you want to do now?” King Yama stated.

“We need the soul of the Seer of the Azure Dragon. We need her to possess the trainee priestess and perform the revival ceremony for the Four Cardinal Divine Beasts.” Adrian stated which made King Yama laugh loudly that flames came out of his throat.

“I do not know about the other laws of the continents but that is not allowed in the eastern continent. My laws dictate that all souls that have been sent to purgatory shall be wiped clean of their time in the mortal realm for they should start the cycle of reincarnation. Even if I can give you the soul of the seer, I do not know if she already drank from Meng Po’s soup.” King Yama stated.

“I believe that she has yet to taste the soup because she should be in the area where those that still have duty are lingering. A special place in the eastern underworld where those that cannot move on are placed because they have yet to do their final wish.” Adrian stated with a smile which made King Yama look at him with interest and slight aggression.

“It seems that you are well versed in the places of the underworld, champion. I guess being the new Mediator of Death has granted you full access to the underworld after all. Still, I believe that you have not step foot in my domain, but you seem to know much of it.” King Yama stated.

“Thank you for the praise but I have been to all the domains of the underworld or at least those that I have access to. I have my ways of going about to your domains to check your statuses after all. I even rated you highly in the evaluation that happened.” Adrian stated as he even gave it a stamp of his approval for the eastern underworld running smoothly.

“No wonder that seal had the power of both life and death. Still, even with a good evaluation from your end… I cannot hand over the soul of the seer. She is now a dutybound wraith and under my protection. What can you exchange as this is still a deal?” King Yama stated.

“From the looks of things, you have not prepared something to exchange me with.” King Yama added.

“A promise.” Adrian replied which made even Levin Cloud speechless because the gods of life and death are bound to the concept of a bargain or exchange.

The fact that his best friend is going to give a god of death a promise in exchange will mean nothing. King Yama could just end the deal now and vanish from their sights. Levin Cloud is at least thankful that King Yama did not look offended but intrigued which is why he is still here.

“Promises are empty.” King Yama stated and was about to say more when Adrian cut him off.

“I promise to deliver you the soul of the Corrupted Yellow Emperor myself.” Adrian stated with confidence.
