Nightmare Assault

Chapter 525: Red Paper

It was followed by a detailed page. A lot of people had gone missing around that building recently. There were some pictures. There were men and women of different ages. The pictures were in black-and-white. Those people were probably dead.

Jiang Cheng recognised one of them instantly. He was a middle-aged man with a determined gaze. He looked like a successful businessman. He was Nan Huaili, Nan Jing’s father. His picture was featured on the 17th-floor office. He was the reason Jiang Cheng went to Rong Chuang Building.

“These are the people who are confirmed to be missing.” Kui Yi added. There were others that hadn’t been reported.

“Who are these two?” Jiang Cheng pointed at two pictures. Their faces were blurred out. It was strange.

“They are members of the website like me. They have also accepted the case, but…” Kui Yi smiled sadly, “They have also gone missing.” They were probably led into the ghost hospital and murdered by Xiang Nan.

“Were there door holders?” Jiang Cheng asked.

“They might be.” Kui Yi was vague. “The website is home to many unusual people. You never know who is on the other end. For people like us, the door is just an extra layer of security, one that is not reliable.”

Jiang Cheng nodded. Kui Yi was not wrong. A normal person could survive the nightmare if they were clever enough. He was the perfect example.

“I can sense the thing inside my door breaking out. Perhaps I’ve been using the door’s power too much recently.” Kui Yi sounded depressed. However, this was inevitable. If he didn’t use the door’s power, he’d die. Every time he used the door, the corruption would deepen until he became a walking dead… a movable door. Just like Xiang Nan…

Kui Yi turned to look out the window. The sun was setting. He could see the scenario at the neighbourhood gate from his angle. Parents were walking back with their children, who were bouncing with energy. Some of the parents even gave their kids piggyback rides. However, he wouldn’t have much time to enjoy such simple joy. The fate of every door holder was to be killed before complete corruption.

A hand landed on Kui Yi’s shoulder. “Don’t worry.” Jiang Cheng said. Kui Yi turned and saw Jiang Cheng’s sincere eyes.

For a moment, Kui Yi felt connected to Jiang Cheng. “Even though he’s from Deep Sea, he might be a good man.” Kui Yi thought. “After all, we all share the fate of carrying the door.”

“Thank you…” Kui Yi didn’t think it was someone from Deep Red who’d come to comfort him.

“No need for thanks.” Jiang Cheng offered. “We’re brothers. After you die, I’ll help you look after your seaside villa and your sisters. Don’t worry. By the way,” Jiang Cheng suddenly remembered something. “You have paid the villa in full, right? I’m not going to inherit your loan.”

Kui Yi wanted to cry. He suddenly realised it was not unreasonable for Deep Red to be wanted.

“What is this?” Jiang Cheng noticed something flash on the screen. It was an email. The background was quite unique. It was a city in perpetual darkness. A man in a black coat stood at the tallest building. Many demons crawled towards him.

“Mr Kui Yi, this is the reply to your third request to join the Night Guardians.

“Your examination level is at Level B, but based on our observations, your go-to solution during a crisis is to save yourself first. That doesn’t align with our goal. Therefore, we temporarily do not plan to accept you.”

The mail was signed by the Night Guardians.

The air froze. Kui Yi’s lips turned white. How could he be so unlucky? Who didn’t know that the Night Guardians and Deep Red were nemeses?

“Are you planning to join the Night Guardians?” Jiang Cheng asked warmly.

“This is a misunderstanding. Someone has hacked into my account. I have never liked them. Who goes around wearing black coats? They swore to protect the world. They are so fake!” Kui Yi rushed over to delete the email and blocked the sender.

Jiang Cheng didn’t care about Kui Yi’s stance. For him, both the Night Guardians and Deep Red were parties he needed to be careful about. Deep Red merely had a more direct approach to things.

However, he was surprised that Night Guardians dared to recruit people so openly on the website. Did that mean the Night Guardians were part of the website’s admins?

When he had that thought, Jiang Cheng confirmed the answer. That should be the case. After all, in terms of their size, the Night Guardian should be larger than Deep Red. The Night Guardian should have a hand in building this website.

Jiang Cheng skimmed the threads. The content was much more varied than he had anticipated. There were many supernatural cases. This indirectly verified Jiang Cheng’s guess. The nightmare was invading the real world. The barrier between the two was collapsing. Maybe the nightmare would soon appear directly in the real world. The incident at Rong Chuang was a good example.

“Brother Jiang,” Kui Yi cried. “You can take the seaside villa and the girls at any moment. However, I’ve contributed during this mission. I should have a part of the rewards, right?”

Jiang Cheng was stunned. “Rewards?”

“That’s right. Those red papers.” Kui Yi regarded Jiang Cheng strangely. “Brother Jiang, you’re not trying to scam me, are you?”

“I didn’t see any red papers. I didn’t take any,” Jiang Cheng admitted. He knew that the nightmares could produce life-saving white paper, but he had never heard of red paper.

“Of course you didn’t, because your friend already did.” Kui Yi explained. “Miss Lin.”

“She did?!”
