New Ability Every Ten Days: Becoming a Vampire Made Me Too OP
Chapter 129: The Rising Tide Society, Its Righteous Spirit Endures!
For the next half hour or so, Yu Xian shuttled through different tunnels. Along the way, he picked up no less than a ton of gold, as well as a few dust-covered weapons. Any weapon that could remain intact in this kind of environment was clearly extraordinary.
During this time, he also took the wrong path several times. However, whenever he reached the end of a tunnel, he would simply switch to another one and continue exploring.
Not even Yu Xian himself knew where he was or how far he was from the surface. Through the connection between his bubbles, he only knew he had been moving downward the entire time.
These tunnels looked flat, but in reality, they sloped slightly downward. No matter which path he chose, he always went deeper underground.
Suddenly, a message popped up on the screen.
Sharpshooter: This energetic in the middle of the night? What are you doing?
When Yu Xian saw the codename, he knew this person was Hua Qiang, the Chief of the Combat Division. He smiled. "Greetings, Chief. I'm currently scooping up gold on the Red Planet!"
On the screen, Hua Qiang saw Yu Xian reach out and dig a gold bean out of the nearby wall. The chief's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. Holding his phone, he typed in surprise.
Sharpshooter: Didn't prospectors clean out all the gold on the Red Planet long ago? Where are you right now?
Yu Xian chuckled. "I don't know. I should be inside a mine, but this place extends in every direction and connects to way too many other mines. It's hard to say exactly where I am."
Hua Qiang was speechless. If it were him, being trapped in an unknown place like this would have made him tense beyond belief. He definitely would not be as relaxed as Yu Xian. Now, he was starting to understand why the commenters above him were all saying, "Space ability users have it good. So much freedom." Right now, Yu Xian was indeed free.
As the stream continued, countless Molten Spirit Gu Insects suddenly flooded Hua Qiang's screen. Startled by the sight in the middle of the night, he literally leaped straight off his balcony. The moment his feet touched the ground, his fingers flew across his phone screen.
Sharpshooter: Little Fish, what kind of heinous crime did you commit to have that many Molten Spirit Gu Insects hunting you down?
Yu Xian had originally wanted to ask Hua Qiang how to control Molten Spirit Gu Insects, but to his surprise, the man suspected him of doing something bad first. "Chief, I have no idea either. I was just passing by, and they started chasing me nonstop."
Hua Qiang looked puzzled.
Sharpshooter: Despite their terrifying reputation, Molten Spirit Gu Insects are among the more docile variants. If you didn't do anything, there's no reason for them to keep chasing you.
Trivia: Chief, there is actually one other possibility. The Molten Spirit Gu Insects may have a master, and they may have been ordered to stop all intelligent life from entering the deeper parts of the mine.
After this message, Hua Qiang thoughtfully typed up a reply.
Sharpshooter: In other words, Yu Xian might encounter the Gu Master who placed them there?
An enemy meant a battle. His eyes shone, and his fighting spirit stirred. Although Hua Qiang was an archer, he was a battle maniac. Aside from being the strongest with a bow, he was also proficient in all eighteen types of weapons. In all of Qilin, the number of people who could defeat him could be counted on one hand. Otherwise, he would not have been appointed as the Chief of the Combat Division. If the Chief of the Combat Division could not fight, that would be the biggest joke of all.
The reason he had been unable to break the Xingtian Zombie King's defense was that the Xingtian Zombie King was simply too powerful, not that he was too weak. If he were to fight an ordinary Dragon-rank opponent, he could kill them with a single arrow.
Trivia: He may not necessarily encounter that Gu Master. Shadow Gu are usually hidden inside a Gu Master's shadow or concealed within the Gu Master's cloak. But that Gu Master placed the Shadow Gu outside, so there is a high chance that the Gu Master is already dead.
Trivia continued typing continuously.
Trivia: Besides, this mine has clearly gone untouched for a very, very long time. If Yu Xian hadn't blundered his way inside, it likely would have remained undisturbed for centuries to come. Even if someone else wandered in, they would almost certainly perish under the combined assault of the Shadow Gu and the Molten Spirit Gu Insects. Only a few people alive can stroll through there as effortlessly as Yu Xian is doing.
Right then, a sudden shift occurred on Yu Xian’s end. The Molten Spirit Gu Insects that had been relentlessly pursuing him suddenly retreated, and the tunnel quickly fell into darkness.
Although Yu Xian had night vision, he took out several powerful lamp bulbs and turned them on. The entire tunnel became bright again. The only difference was that the Molten Spirit Gu Insects had given off red light before, while the tunnel was now lit by cold white light.
"Looks like something's up ahead."
Yu Xian did not advance recklessly. Instead, he controlled an eyeball bubble and sent it forward. He could be reckless when it was time to be reckless, but when caution was called for, he had to be cautious. Only an idiot would charge ahead blindly in this situation, and he was not one.
As the eyeball bubble quickly moved forward, the narrow tunnel in his vision gradually widened. A massive blightstone gate appeared before the eyeball bubble. By the edge of the gate sat a skeleton. Judging from its posture, Yu Xian could tell its heart had probably been destroyed, due to which it collapsed and died there.
The eyeball bubble passed through the blightstone gate and discovered that the space inside was very large. It seemed to be a front court. Many weapons hung on the walls on both sides, which made it easy to imagine the sight of numerous people once practicing martial arts here.
Beyond the forecourt, a main gate appeared in front of the eyeball bubble. Written across it were the words "Rising Tide Society."
Shocked, Yu Xian muttered, "This place is actually the base of the Rising Tide Society, the largest patriotic organization from six hundred years ago!"
Hua Qiang was equally stunned.
Sharpshooter: What? You're saying that place belongs to the Rising Tide Society?
Yu Xian nodded. "Yeah, there's no mistaking it."
The Rising Tide Society was an organization formed by a group of patriotic supernatural beings before the Xingtian Warriors appeared. Not only was it dedicated to fighting supernatural criminals, but it also supplied the country with large amounts of supernatural resources, such as blightstone. Even today, Blightstone City housed a grand memorial museum dedicated to them.
The Rising Tide Society had been active for roughly seventy years before mysteriously vanishing without a trace. No one knew where its members had gone, and from that point on, there had never been any further news of them.
People still speculated about what had happened to the Rising Tide Society. The most common theory was that all of its members had entered the Abyss. Others believed they had gone into outer space to explore the sea of stars. No one had expected the Rising Tide Society to have a base on the Red Planet. It was even possible that this place was their headquarters.
As Yu Xian controlled the eyeball bubble beyond the main gate, the scene that came into view made his eyes widen. A vast number of skeletons sat cross-legged; some had plunged daggers through their hearts, some had crushed their skulls with their palms, and some had pierced their foreheads with their fingers.
At the center of the skeletons, two corpses knelt on the ground without the slightest trace of decay. The man had driven a blade through his abdomen, also piercing the woman who clung to him from behind. The two had died on their knees, still holding each other.
Yu Xian stared at this in shock. "So, the Rising Tide Society never went to the Abyss, and they never went to explore the sea of stars either. They... all died here."
The Rising Tide Society had left behind many videos and pictures, so he recognized the two corpses at a glance. They were none other than the leader of the Rising Tide Society, Hong Zheng, known as the "Divine Blade," and his wife, Cui Xianzhen, known as "Thousand Butterflies."
What exactly happened here? Why did they choose such an ending?
