Chapter 638: Chapter 434: No Reverence for Life, a Complete Madman Worse Than a Beast
The members of the Bright Holy See were bustling around an ancient, solemn altar.
A mysterious and oppressive aura filled the air.
The surrounding trees swayed gently in the breeze, as if trembling in anticipation of the ritual’s imminent completion.
Raphael stood beside the altar, clad in the magnificent robes of an Archbishop. A fanatical smile lit up his face, brimming with excitement and anticipation for his soon-to-be-achieved goal.
He muttered an incantation, his voice low and rhythmic, as he continuously flipped through a black-covered Bible.
With every turn, each page flashed with an eerie red light.
Ji Shengyue was bound to a nearby stone pillar, her hands and feet tied so tightly with ropes that she couldn’t move an inch.
Her eyes were filled with despair and rage,
as she stared daggers at Raphael and the busy members of the Bright Holy See before her.
Watching it all, she was filled with regret and indignation, yet she was powerless.
Her own fate, and the fate of the entire Great Jing Empire,
were about to take a heart-stopping turn—
a turn that would likely plunge them into an abyss of eternal damnation.
Just then, the sky suddenly darkened, and a low rumble echoed from the distance.
Masses of blood-red clouds swiftly gathered, rolling toward the valley.
Wherever the blood clouds passed, the air was stained a bizarre, chilling red.
As the blood clouds drew nearer, a group of figures exuding a frigid aura became clearly visible within them.
It was none other than Ye Lingyun, the Clan Leader of the Vampire Clan, along with a group of the clan’s top fighters.
Led by Ye Lingyun, the members of the Vampire Clan were like a black torrent,
swiftly descending upon the valley.
Their arrival made the already tense atmosphere even more oppressive.
These Vampires had agile figures and a bloodthirsty glint in their eyes;
each one of them emanated a powerful aura.
After they landed, not a single one of them gave the captive Ji Shengyue so much as a glance.
She was merely an irrelevant existence.
“Stop these filthy, despicable creatures!”
Upon seeing the entire Vampire Clan descend,
Raphael’s expression instantly darkened, but he showed no sign of panic.
He stared coldly at the Vampire Clan’s leader, Ye Lingyun, and declared, “Did you think I was unaware of your plan all along?
I’ve actually known for a long time. I was just pretending not to.
You deliberately had this utterly foolish Queen of the Great Jing Empire help our Bright Holy See,
and this foolish Queen thought things were going so smoothly because of her own competence.
I, too, have been playing dumb. In truth, this was merely a scheme within a scheme by our Bright Holy See.
You were setting a trap, and so were we.”
His voice, filled with confidence and authority, echoed through the valley.
After speaking, Raphael unhesitatingly threw the Cross hanging around his neck high into the sky.
As if granted a life of its own, the Cross shot rapidly toward the heavens the moment it left his hand.
It flew higher and higher before suddenly exploding in the sky, transforming into an invisible wave of energy that spread out in all directions.
As this energy wave propagated, a strange transformation began in the skies above the entire Great Jing Empire.
A colossal Holy Light Cross slowly materialized,
radiating a dazzling golden light that threatened to illuminate the entire world.
The citizens, drawn by this mysterious force, turned into motes of golden light and streamed endlessly toward the Holy Light Cross.
At the base of the Cross were embedded the skulls of the Great Jing Empire’s past monarchs,
which looked all the more sinister and terrifying under the golden glow.
The entire Great Jing Empire was instantly plunged into chaos and terror. Buildings in the cities began to collapse, and the air was filled with an endless chorus of cries and screams.
Ji Shengyue was completely stunned. She stared wide-eyed at the scene before her, the last shred of hope in her heart utterly extinguished.
She finally understood. Everyone had been setting a trap; she was the only fool.
‘It’s only now that I realize what a complete and utter idiot I’ve been.’
‘Maybe I never should have fought for the throne,’
‘I shouldn’t have sat in that position that symbolized power but brought endless suffering.’
‘I never should have driven Chu He away in the first place.’
‘I shouldn’t have been so conceited, thinking I could control everything.’
Ji Shengyue’s heart turned to ash. Never before had she been so broken, so hopeless, and never had she despised herself so much.
…
The entire Great Jing Empire descended into chaos and terror.
On the bustling streets of the Royal City,
a lavishly dressed merchant was hastily trying to flee with his family and treasures.
His face was filled with terror, and sweat beaded on his forehead, soaking his exquisite collar.
The mysterious force followed like a shadow. His young child suddenly let out a piercing shriek as their body slowly, uncontrollably, rose into the air and dissolved into golden motes of light, flying toward the Holy Light Cross.
The merchant reached out in despair but grabbed only air. He collapsed to the ground, letting out an anguished roar, “No, my child!”
His wife wept beside him, her voice filled with despair and helplessness.
…
In a dilapidated slum, an elderly man leaned heavily on his cane, trying to find a safe place amidst the chaotic crowd.
