Chapter 636: Chapter 433: Countless Humanoid Moths of White Light Filling the Sky
“You pack of hypocritical villains!”
Ji Shengyue screamed hoarsely, her voice saturated with endless fury and resentment, echoing through the valley.
Her eyes were red-rimmed as she glared at Raphael, wishing she could slice the hypocritical man before her into a thousand pieces.
She had once been filled with hope that her cooperation with the Bright Holy See would be the salvation of the Great Jing Empire,
but she never expected that she was just a pathetic pawn to be used.
Raphael’s gaze instantly turned as cold and hard as winter ice, piercing to the bone.
Without hesitation, he raised his hand. With a sharp WHOOSH of air,
a slap infused with the Bright Holy See’s overbearing Light Power struck Ji Shengyue hard across the face.
Ji Shengyue felt a powerful force rush into her like a surging tide. The energy that had been circulating methodically within her was instantly thrown into chaos, scattering in every direction.
Her face went deathly pale. Gritting her teeth against the searing pain on her cheek, she hurriedly activated her Cultivation Technique, trying to gather the scattered energy.
However, no matter how she tried, the energy acted like rebellious beasts, refusing to obey her command.
Ji Shengyue staggered back several unsteady, weak steps,
before falling heavily to the ground with a THUD, kicking up a cloud of dust.
She curled up on the ground, clutching her throbbing cheek. The world spun around her, everything turning dark as dizziness washed over her.
Every bone in her body felt as if it were being repeatedly struck by a heavy hammer. Pain washed over her in surging waves, one after another, until she nearly lost consciousness.
“I was such a fool! How could I have believed you liars!”
Ji Shengyue gritted her teeth, her voice choked with sobs. “I placed the hopes of the Great Jing Empire in your hands, and in return, you gave me betrayal!”
Raphael snorted, the smile vanishing from his face, replaced by a frosty expression. “The plan is complete. I have no reason to coddle you any longer.”
He shot a cold glance at Ji Shengyue on the ground, as if looking at a worthless ant.
Then, he turned to the Cardinals, his voice low yet filled with authority as he commanded, “The plan must not be delayed for a second longer. Begin at once!”
“Yes, Archbishop!”
The Cardinals replied in unison, their voices synchronized and cold.
They slowly raised their hands, gently removed the Crosses from around their necks, and held them piously in both hands before slowly pressing them to their foreheads.
Then, they closed their eyes, their lips trembling slightly as they began to chant, “Our Lord on high, by Your infinite radiance, we commence this mystic rite. Let holy power pierce the heavens and the earth, connecting the Mortal World to the Celestial Kingdom. We offer this devout prayer: may Your will descend upon this world, banish the darkness, and bring forth eternal light. At this pivotal moment, we follow Your guidance to sound the overture of light.”
Meanwhile, a Bible had mysteriously appeared in each of their free hands.
The Bible’s cover was a deep, jet-black, exuding a mysterious and eerie aura, as if it held endless secrets.
But when opened, its pages were a vivid blood-red, emitting a chilling sheen in the dim light.
As the Cardinals’ chanting grew louder, the entire Great Jing Empire began to shake as if in the grip of an invisible giant’s hand.
The ground began to tremble violently. Cracks spiderwebbed across the earth, threatening to tear the world asunder.
…
In the towering skyscrapers of the bustling metropolis, office workers were caught completely off guard by the sudden tremors, thrown into a state of confusion.
Documents scattered across the floor, and office equipment was knocked askew.
“What’s going on? What’s happening?”
A young employee shouted in panic, his voice trembling noticeably.
“I don’t know! Is it an earthquake? Run!”
Another colleague yelled back, his face a mask of terror as he made a break for the emergency exit.
Everyone dropped what they were doing and swarmed toward the emergency exit. Their footsteps were frantic and hurried as they pushed and shoved one another, descending into chaos.
Dozens of stories up, on the top floor, the violent tremors shook the entire building so hard it felt as if it could collapse at any moment.
People lost their footing. They tried to get up and run, only to be thrown back to the ground again and again by the powerful force of the quake.
“We’re done for! The building’s going to collapse!”
A middle-aged man screamed in terror, his body trembling uncontrollably.
A young woman in a business suit stared wide-eyed in terror, tears streaming uncontrollably from her eyes.
With trembling hands, she pulled out her phone, her fingers flying across the screen as she composed a final text message to her family.
She didn’t dare to call, afraid that she would completely break down if she heard their voices.
At that moment, only a single thought filled her mind: ‘I don’t want to die. I don’t want to leave my family.’
In other corners of the city, people of all ages—men, women, and children—poured out of the low-slung houses in a panic.
Their clothes were in disarray, their faces etched with fear and helplessness.
“What in the world is going on?” an old man asked, his voice trembling and his eyes full of confusion.
“I don’t know! Heavens above, this is a catastrophe!” a middle-aged woman beside him cried, clutching the child at her side.
Some clung to each other, tears welling in their eyes.
Others stared blankly at their surroundings, muttering over and over, “What’s happening? What’s happening?”
The entire Great Jing Empire descended into chaos and panic.
Everyone was reeling from the sudden cataclysm, with no idea what was truly happening.
