Chapter 414: Chapter 414: The Difference Between the Left and Right Eyes

After a brief moment of astonishment, Obito spun around and lashed out with a kick, sending Kakashi flying heavily through the air.

Kakashi crashed to the ground and tried to get back up, but at that moment, the dizziness brought on by his depleted chakra and exhausted ocular power fiercely assailed his body.

His vision immediately went black, and he lost consciousness.

"Whew..."

Obito let out a soft breath.

The left eye he had transplanted into Kakashi had actually awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan as well—and Kakashi was even capable of using that Mangekyō Sharingan’s dojutsu.

This was far beyond Obito’s expectations.

Walking over to the unconscious Kakashi, Obito murmured to himself, "No wonder my right eye would always react for no apparent reason. So this was the cause."

Normally, when someone was thrown into the Kamui Dimension, the process of crossing through space-time subjected both their body and soul to an enormous shock, causing them to fall into a brief state of unconsciousness.

This was also why, in the past, once Obito managed to throw a target into the Kamui Dimension, victory was essentially his.

In a battle between shinobi, even the slightest mistake or a momentary lapse in concentration could cost someone their life, much less briefly losing consciousness and falling into a state where they were completely at the mercy of their opponent.

The reason Kakashi had not immediately fallen unconscious after crossing through space-time was because, just like Obito, his body was protected by the Mangekyō Sharingan dojutsu, Kamui.

Thus, Obito was now certain that the ocular technique of his left eye was the same as that of his right eye.

Both were Kamui!

However, the Kamui of the left eye seemed to differ in one crucial respect.

It did not require physical contact with the target.

Simply by focusing his gaze on someone, he could directly tear them out of the current space-time and cast them into the exclusive dimension of Kamui.

At that moment, Obito removed the single-eyed spiral mask from his face, revealing the wrinkled, scar-covered face beneath.

Clatter...

Casually tossing the mask onto the ground, Obito bent down and reached toward Kakashi’s left eye.

There was no hesitation whatsoever.

With swift, practiced movements, Obito removed the left eye from Kakashi’s socket—the eye that had originally belonged to him in the first place. Without even bothering to clean the blood from it, he directly pressed it into his own eye socket.

After reclaiming his left eye, Obito suddenly became dazed and staggered several steps.

A moment later, he finally opened his eyes.

Both of his scarlet eyes simultaneously revealed the unique three-bladed pinwheel pattern of his Mangekyō Sharingan!

Slowly raising a hand to cover his left eye, Obito murmured,

"So that’s how it is..."

Although the Mangekyō Sharingan abilities of both his left and right eyes were Kamui, their respective specialties were slightly different.

The left eye was focused more heavily on offense.

Without requiring any physical contact, it could tear apart or distort any target within his field of vision, or even send the target entirely into the Kamui Dimension.

The right eye, on the other hand, was focused more heavily on defense.

It allowed him to make his own body intangible, placing it within the boundary between the current space-time and the Kamui Dimension, thereby rendering him immune to all attacks. However, if he wanted to send another target into the Kamui Dimension, physical contact was required, forcing him to take the risk of approaching his opponent directly.

"So the offensive aspect of Kamui was in the left eye all along!"

Only after reclaiming his left eye did Obito finally realize that he had always been using the defensive-oriented right eye as his primary means of attacking his enemies.

He couldn’t help but feel a wave of emotion at the realization.

Having accomplished the objective of his trip, Obito lowered his gaze toward the unconscious Kakashi lying on the ground.

Shing...

Pulling a kunai from his ninja tool pouch, Obito crouched down once again.

Pressing the cold gleaming edge of the kunai against Kakashi’s throat, Obito said indifferently,

"Kakashi, this time... I win!"

With that, Obito prepared to drive the kunai down.

But just as the tip of the blade sliced through the skin of Kakashi’s throat, it suddenly stopped.

"You broke the promise you made to me. You failed to protect Rin. Killing you like this would be letting a bastard like you off far too easily!"

As he spoke, Obito put away the kunai.

He then threw Kakashi out of his Kamui Dimension, sending him back to the training ground from before.

Immediately afterward, Obito appeared at the training ground as well. Looking down at the unconscious Kakashi, he said,

"I’ll make you endure an endless punishment of guilt and despair!"

...

Inside the village.

With the alliance ceremony about to officially begin, Konoha’s villagers poured into the streets.

The streams of people filling the streets and alleys gradually converged into massive crowds, all slowly making their way toward the plaza in front of the Hokage Building.

Atop the Hokage Building...

Dressed in his Hokage robes, the Third Hokage stood with his pipe in one hand and the other clasped behind his back, smiling as he gazed down at the bustling, prosperous village before him.

In the Third Hokage’s plans, forming alliances with the smaller neighboring shinobi villages was an extremely important step.

Doing so would not only ease the tensions surrounding Konoha, but also reduce the pressure along its borders, allowing Konoha to pull its forces back and strengthen the defenses of key regions throughout the Land of Fire.

Standing behind the Third Hokage were Konoha’s two Elder Advisors, Koharu Utatane and Homura Mitokado.

At an important diplomatic occasion such as an alliance ceremony, figures of the Elder Advisor level were naturally expected to attend.

However, for some unknown reason, the other Elder Advisor—

Shimura Danzo—

was nowhere to be seen.

Down in the plaza, Sasuke excitedly followed alongside his father and the rest of his clansmen, his large eyes constantly darting around as his face brimmed with curiosity.

"Father, it’s really lively today!"

"Mm."

Wearing his usual stern expression, Fugaku merely gave a slight nod.

His gaze, however, was not on Sasuke. Instead, it was directed toward several figures standing at the very front of the plaza, before the entrance to the Hokage Building.

The person Fugaku was observing was none other than Tsunade, one of Konoha’s Three Legendary Sannin, along with several of her female disciples standing beside her.

Inspired by the Hyuga Clan having Hyuga Rei become Tsunade’s disciple, the Uchiha Clan had also selected one of their own clansmen to study under Tsunade, taking the first step toward reconciliation with the Hokage faction.

The clanswoman chosen by the Uchiha was named Uchiha Izumi.

She was Itachi’s childhood friend and a highly talented young girl in her own right.

Suddenly, Sasuke tugged on Fugaku’s sleeve.

"Father, look! The Hyuga Clan is here too!"

Fugaku turned his gaze in their direction and saw the Hyuga Clan Head, Hiashi Hyuga, leading a large group of Hyuga clansmen into the plaza.

Among them were Hinata Hyuga, the young heiress of the Main House, as well as Neji Hyuga, who was only a year older than Sasuke but had already begun earning a reputation as a genius.

Pointing toward him, Sasuke asked,

"Father, that long-haired guy is Neji Hyuga, right?"

"Mm."

Fugaku responded indifferently.

When it came to geniuses, the Uchiha Clan—a clan that produced prodigies generation after generation—had no reason to fear any other shinobi clan.

Even now, the Uchiha had someone like Shisui, a genius whose name and reputation had already spread throughout the shinobi world.

Moreover, Fugaku knew very well that his own son, Itachi, was a genius no less talented than Shisui.

Sasuke, however, merely pouted.

"He doesn’t look like anything special!"
