Chapter 151: Chapter 151: The Great Toad Sage’s Prophecy
Hyuga Kagami put away the scroll and said, "Your Highness, rest assured. I’ll take care of it soon."
The Yomi Cult entrenched in the Land of Demons had never been particularly powerful to begin with. Even the cult’s leader was only around the level of a jōnin. With Hyuga Kagami’s current strength, coupled with the intelligence gathered by the Priestess, wiping out the Yomi Cult would be an effortless task.
The only thing he needed to pay attention to was making sure that no one slipped through the net during the purge.
The Priestess joked, "Actually, I was originally planning to issue an official mission request to Konoha. Since I happened to run into you this time, I suppose I’ve saved the Land of Demons a commission fee."
Hyuga Kagami still had his experiments on his mind, so he didn’t linger to chat. After escorting the Priestess back to the palace, he immediately headed toward one of the Yomi Cult’s strongholds...
......
Mount Myōboku.
As Jiraiya walked along, he complained loudly, "Boss, why’d you summon me here in such a hurry? What exactly happened? The village is in the middle of a standoff with Kumogakure right now. I don’t have time to hang around here!"
Fukasaku Sage leaped onto Jiraiya’s shoulder and gave him a hard knock on the head.
"Of course I called you here because something important happened!"
Jiraiya rubbed his head. "What important matter?"
Fukasaku Sage shook his head. "I’m not sure either. It seems to have something to do with the ’Child of Prophecy.’ We’ll know once we meet the Great Sage."
"Oh."
The moment he heard that it concerned the ’Child of Prophecy,’ Jiraiya immediately became serious.
According to the Great Toad Sage’s prophecy, a tremendous upheaval would one day sweep across the shinobi world, and the person who would bring about that upheaval was none other than the prophesied ’Child of Prophecy.’
Therefore, it could be said that the ’Child of Prophecy’ was a crucial figure upon whom the fate of the entire shinobi world depended.
Over the years, Jiraiya had wandered throughout the shinobi world. Aside from his naturally unrestrained personality and unwillingness to be tied down, another major reason was his search for the ’Child of Prophecy’ foretold by the Great Toad Sage.
Before long, Jiraiya followed Fukasaku Sage into the great hall where the Great Toad Sage resided.
Fukasaku Sage hopped over to the Great Toad Sage and said, "Great Sage, little Jiraiya is here."
The Great Toad Sage narrowed his eyes and smiled. "Ah, little Jiraiya is here!"
Jiraiya hurriedly asked, "Great Sage, have you found the Child of Prophecy?"
The Great Toad Sage shook his head.
Jiraiya immediately looked somewhat disappointed. "Then what did you call me here for?"
The Great Toad Sage seemed to be recalling something. He remained dazed for a moment before slowly saying, "Not long ago, the prophecy underwent a change. In one of the fragments of the future, I saw a man with sky-blue eyes."
Jiraiya immediately perked up. "Is he the Child of Prophecy?"
The Great Toad Sage shook his head again. "I’m not entirely sure. But he has never appeared in any of my previous prophecies."
"Sky-blue eyes, huh?" Jiraiya paused, then frowned. "Great Sage, do you have any other clues? Finding someone based on nothing but a pair of sky-blue eyes would be way too difficult!"
The Great Toad Sage slowly replied, "He was wearing the forehead protector of your Konoha Village."
"You should’ve said that earlier! That makes things much easier!"
Jiraiya burst out laughing and immediately turned around, preparing to leave.
Fukasaku hurriedly called out to him, "Little Jiraiya, don’t be in such a rush! The Great Sage hasn’t finished speaking yet!"
Jiraiya had no choice but to return and sit cross-legged once more, staring intently at the Great Toad Sage.
As the Great Toad Sage searched through his memories, he continued, "In every prophecy after that, the man with the sky-blue eyes never appeared again. Not even once."
Jiraiya frowned, a thoughtful expression appearing on his face.
If that man with the sky-blue eyes had no influence on the shinobi world, then he would never have appeared in the Great Toad Sage’s prophecy in the first place.
And since he had appeared in the prophecy, that meant he was certain to have some kind of impact on the shinobi world.
But if that was the case...
Why had he suddenly disappeared from the prophecy altogether?
Shima Sage, who was sitting on the other side of the Great Toad Sage, glanced at him and muttered, "The old geezer must’ve gone senile!"
Fukasaku Sage hurriedly said, "Ma, what are you saying?!"
The Great Toad Sage merely chuckled, completely unconcerned. He then turned to Jiraiya and said, "My prophecy must have been interfered with by some kind of power. That person with the sky-blue eyes must still be alive, and there should be some kind of power around him capable of interfering with my prophecies."
Jiraiya pondered seriously for a long while before asking, "Great Sage, when was the first time you saw him in a prophecy?"
The Great Toad Sage thought back for a moment. "Not too long ago, I suppose."
Jiraiya looked utterly helpless. "How long ago is ’not too long ago’?"
The Great Toad Sage replied, "Perhaps half a year ago. Perhaps a year ago."
For the Great Toad Sage, who had lived for more than a thousand years, the passage of time had long since become something he was no longer particularly sensitive to. As a result, he could no longer remember exactly when he had first seen the person with sky-blue eyes in his prophecy.
Shima Sage chimed in, "See? See? I told you the old geezer’s gone senile."
Jiraiya stood up and said, "I understand. If he really is the Child of Prophecy, then I’ll definitely find him!"
Jiraiya had once believed that Nagato, who possessed the Rinnegan, might be the ’Child of Prophecy.’ But afterward, he heard news of Nagato’s death.
Later, he had believed that the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, might be the ’Child of Prophecy’ instead.
Yet, for some inexplicable reason, the Fourth had died as well.
Despite suffering setback after setback, Jiraiya’s determination to find the ’Child of Prophecy’ had never wavered.
He knew that only by finding the ’Child of Prophecy’ could the peace of the shinobi world be ensured!
......
BOOM!
With a thunderous crash, the massive doors toppled to the ground.
A lone figure slowly walked into the gloomy great hall.
Inside the hall, the leader of the Yomi Cult—the man known as ’Yomi’—pointed at the approaching figure and shouted, "Just who the hell are you?! Why are you making an enemy of our Yomi Cult?!"
"Yomi Cult?"
The figure let out a cold snort and continued walking forward.
"Yomi is the resting place of souls. Something like you thinks itself worthy of bearing the name Yomi?"
Yomi glared viciously at the figure. "Y-You... Just who are you?!"
The other party’s entire body was concealed beneath a black cloak, while a demonic mask covered his face.
At a glance, he looked almost like an emissary who had stepped forth from the underworld itself.
The figure smiled faintly.
"Who am I?
"I am Yama, the ruler of the underworld and Yomi!"
The moment those words left his mouth, the figure vanished with a Body Flicker and appeared directly in front of Yomi.
"So fast?!"
The thought had barely flashed through Yomi’s mind when a strangely familiar figure suddenly entered his field of vision.
"Huh? Isn’t that... my own body? Why am I..."
As his vision rapidly spun through the air, Yomi’s consciousness gradually faded, until everything finally sank into darkness.
Thud...
With a dull sound, Yomi’s head, which had been tumbling through the air, finally struck the ground...
