Naruto: Starting with Indra's Bloodline
Chapter 11: The Young Guy
"Hello! I’m Might Guy, and starting today, I’ll be your Jonin team leader!"
Wearing a green skintight suit and flashing a mouthful of bright white teeth, Might Guy gave a thumbs-up and grinned.
Reiji was stunned for a moment before quickly recovering and greeting him.
"Guy-sensei, I look forward to working with you."
He had never expected his Jonin instructor to be Might Guy.
The man who, in his previous life, had been revered as the "Guy Emperor"!
The man who, through day after day of relentless hard work, had ultimately managed to tear open a crack in the iron curtain of bloodline supremacy that dominated the Naruto world!
However.
Reiji looked at the person standing before him.
The Might Guy of this era was only sixteen years old and had just become a Jonin.
He was still far from possessing the strength he would have during the Fourth Great Ninja War, when he could open the Eighth Gate of the Eight Gates Formation.
"Ahem. Although I’m still young, I’ve gained quite a bit of experience in taijutsu. There’s absolutely no problem with me teaching you taijutsu!"
Seeing Reiji’s gaze, Might Guy seemed to feel that his abilities were being questioned and spoke somewhat lacking in confidence.
On one hand, he really was rather young and had only recently become a Jonin.
On the other hand, taijutsu was the only thing he excelled at. He basically had no ninjutsu or genjutsu worth showing off.
"I wasn’t questioning your strength, Guy-sensei."
Reiji spoke seriously.
"I once heard about your father’s achievements. As a Genin, he held off the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist and took four of them down in a single battle. I imagine your strength must be quite impressive as well."
"Uhh, that’s so touching!"
Might Guy seemed to have received some rare recognition. Tears instantly welled up in his eyes, and he looked like he wanted to hug Reiji and have a good cry together right there.
"..."
Reiji.
He wanted to say something.
Then decided not to.
Then wanted to say something again.
Sigh.
Might Guy was incredibly strong and certainly worthy of respect, but his personality was really something that ordinary people could not handle...
Overall.
Reiji was quite satisfied with having Might Guy as his Jonin instructor.
In terms of strength, Guy already possessed Jonin-level strength in his normal state, and in an emergency, he could even open the Eight Gates.
His sense of security when carrying out missions outside the village would increase tremendously!
And when it came to teaching him, Guy’s mastery of taijutsu was beyond question.
The fact that Uchiha Madara had said that among everyone he had ever fought in taijutsu, no one was more outstanding than Guy was proof enough.
As for ninjutsu and genjutsu, Reiji had the talent of Indra, so teaching himself would be enough.
Taijutsu, on the other hand, required guidance from someone with sufficient strength and experience.
In Reiji’s mind, the importance of taijutsu was in no way inferior to ninjutsu and genjutsu. To some extent, it might even be greater!
In the Naruto world, from battles between Genin, Jonin, and Kage-level shinobi, ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu all had their uses.
In battles at the Super-Kage level, genjutsu became less useful, while ninjutsu and taijutsu remained effective.
In battles at the Six Paths level, the effectiveness of ninjutsu was greatly reduced as well, but taijutsu remained useful...
First, he would set a small short-term goal:
His taijutsu strength had to reach the level where he could dance around in front of Uchiha Madara for a couple of moves.
Reiji looked around and, seeing that no one else was coming, asked in confusion.
"Guy-sensei, doesn’t our team have any other members?"
"Oh, that? The Hokage told me earlier that because you graduated early, it would be difficult to find teammates who could form a team with you."
Might Guy tried hard to recall the details.
"The other one who graduated early with you, the one called... Uchiha Chara or something? I forgot. He was added to a two-person team because that team had just lost a member."
"As for you, because we really couldn’t find a team you could join, you’re the only member of your team."
Hearing the name "Uchiha Chara," the corner of Reiji’s mouth twitched.
He wondered what Uchiha Itachi would think if he heard that.
As for not having any teammates, Reiji did not really care.
Two teammates with Genin-level strength were basically dispensable to him.
However.
Why did his team feel so strange?
A team consisting of a Jonin instructor who had only just become a Jonin and a single Genin member.
What Reiji did not know was that although Hiruzen Sarutobi really had been unable to find a team he could slot Reiji into, it was not as though Might Guy had been the only possible choice for his Jonin instructor.
It was simply that there were not many suitable candidates who could guide Reiji in the Will of Fire.
In the end, Hiruzen Sarutobi had chosen Might Guy.
Back here.
Since both sides approved of each other, they naturally had to spar a little and get to know one another.
Reiji was eager to try.
He wondered what the strength of a genuine Jonin was like.
Knowing that there was definitely a huge gap between himself and a Jonin, Reiji activated his Sharingan right from the beginning.
Opposite him, Might Guy slightly lowered his gaze, focusing on the movements below Reiji’s head.
"Although I don’t have the Sharingan, I have plenty of experience fighting against it. I’m also very familiar with the Sharingan’s abilities and fighting style."
When Reiji threw a straight punch at him, Might Guy did not use his superior strength to meet it head-on. Instead, he dodged.
’So fast!’
Reiji thought to himself. He had already prepared for this and immediately changed the direction of his punch, striking toward the spot he had predicted.
However!
Might Guy’s previous movement had been a feint. He himself had jumped in another direction and gently pushed Reiji with one hand.
"!"
Reiji was startled. His body was sent stumbling forward several steps before he barely managed to stop himself.
His prediction had been wrong?
"The Sharingan observes the movements of an opponent’s muscles and uses them to predict their actions. I can take advantage of that to deceive the Sharingan’s perception and make your prediction fail."
Might Guy grinned and explained it to Reiji.
This was valuable experience he had accumulated through years of fighting Kakashi.
"Afterward, I’ll teach you how to distinguish an opponent’s feints and how to respond when your prediction fails."
Those were also experiences accumulated through his battles with Kakashi.
While the two of them fought regularly, they also used this method to improve each other.
"I understand. Thank you, Guy-sensei."
A smile appeared at the corners of Reiji’s mouth.
Having Might Guy as his Jonin instructor meant he could also conveniently obtain Kakashi’s experience in using the Sharingan.
Two benefits for the price of one. He had struck gold!
