Yoruichi unleashed a frenzy of attacks on Unohana Retsu, striking dozens of times in the span of a single heartbeat. Yet, Unohana neutralized every single blow with effortless grace, as if she were merely swatting away flies.

“Captain Unohana really is in a league of her own,” Shunsui Kyoraku remarked, shaking his head with a sigh of admiration.

In the past, the captain he feared the most was undoubtedly Unohana Retsu. She always wore an expression that suggested she was moments away from murder, her body radiating an intense, suffocating bloodlust.

It seemed that only after meeting Shin did she finally rein in that killing intent, adopting the gentle, maternal persona she wore today.

However, even after years of this milder demeanor, Shunsui still didn’t dare show her any disrespect. He knew all too well just how terrifying Unohana’s true power was.

Although his own strength had improved significantly over the years, compared to Captain Unohana, he felt he would still be little more than an appetizer.

He wasn’t even confident he could handle Yoruichi in her current state, let alone Unohana. The power Yoruichi was displaying right now was formidable in its own right.

“Looks like I’ve already been outclassed,” Shunsui muttered, lamenting the gap in their abilities.

Hearing this, Shin shot a sideways glance at Shunsui. In terms of raw talent, Shunsui was easily near the top of the list.

But sometimes, talent wasn’t enough—diligence mattered. If one wasn’t hardworking, they would inevitably fall behind those who were.

Clearly, Shunsui was the type who lacked that drive. If someone else possessed his natural gifts and had trained for as many years as he had, they would be far stronger than he was now.

As for Jushiro Ukitake, his potential was severely bottlenecked by his physical constitution. His frailty acted as a hard limiter on his true power.

“Captain Unohana is definitely going to win this,” Shunsui observed.

It was obvious to him that Unohana had the upper hand, and that was with her holding back significantly.

If Unohana were to get serious—if she unleashed her Bankai—Yoruichi wouldn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Unohana’s Bankai was a sentence of certain death. To use it meant she had stopped playing games.

“I lost.”

Yoruichi grumbled, feeling the cold steel of a blade resting against her neck. It was frustrating—she had gotten so much stronger, yet she still couldn’t measure up to Unohana.

Of course, Yoruichi hadn’t gone all out either. If she had truly unleashed everything she had, she likely could have at least forced Unohana to use her Bankai.

Although they had agreed not to hold back, in a spar between allies, neither was actually going for the kill. Especially with Shin sitting there watching—he wouldn’t allow things to escalate to a deathmatch.

“Looks like I need to brush up on my Zanjutsu,” Yoruichi admitted.

Her Hakuda (hand-to-hand combat) and Shunpo (Flash Step) were top-tier, but her swordsmanship left much to be desired.

“Give it up,” Shin interjected, glancing at her. “You have zero talent for the sword. Hard work won’t fix that. I advise you to drop it before you waste your time.”

He wasn’t trying to be mean—he was just stating a fact. Yoruichi’s aptitude for swordsmanship was abysmal.

Shin had the right to speak on this matter. He had seen her potential firsthand and had tried to teach her before. It was like talking to a brick wall. No matter how he tried to instruct her, she just couldn’t grasp the essence of it.

“I wasn’t planning on learning Kendo from you anyway, so why are you chiming in so fast?” Yoruichi shot back.

“Is that so? In that case, I fully support your decision to learn Kendo,” Shin said with a bright, supportive smile.

“I knew you’d say that. ‘No talent’—I bet that’s just an excuse. You just don’t want to teach me, right?” Yoruichi accused him, rolling her eyes.

“I don’t want to teach you, that’s true. But in all seriousness, you really don’t have much talent in that area. I’m not lying to you.”

Shin’s tone was earnest. It was the brutal truth. While her talent in Hakuda and Shunpo was among the best Shin had ever seen, her sword skills were tragic.

He believed she should double down on her strengths rather than abandon them to pursue a path she wasn’t built for. Perhaps seeing Unohana’s masterful swordsmanship had sparked a desire in her to emulate it.

But if Yoruichi said she wasn’t learning from him, who was she planning to ask? Surely not Unohana?

Shin’s gaze shifted to Unohana.

Sure enough, Yoruichi turned to face the captain of the Fourth Division, her expression deadly serious. “Captain Unohana, I would like you to instruct me in the way of the sword.”

“She’s actually serious?” The corner of Shin’s mouth twitched. Just moments ago, they were beating the hell out of each other, and now this?

Shunsui and Ukitake watched with amused expressions, curiosity dancing in their eyes. They wondered if Captain Unohana would refuse or accept. They leaned toward refusal.

“Very well. I accept,” Unohana replied with a nod, agreeing instantly.

Shunsui and Ukitake nearly tripped over their own feet. They had just bet on a refusal, and she agreed without a second thought.

Even Shin was surprised. He looked at Unohana with a gaze full of sympathy.

Unohana probably didn’t realize just how unsuited Yoruichi was for Kendo. He wondered if she would come to regret this decision.

“Alright, the show’s over. Don’t you two have somewhere else to be?” Shin said, turning his attention to Shunsui and Ukitake.

“Right, we’re leaving immediately.” Ukitake suddenly grabbed Shunsui by the shoulder and began dragging him toward the exit.

Shunsui tried to protest, but Ukitake chopped him on the back of the neck, knocking him out cold before dragging his limp body away. It was a surprisingly decisive side of the usually gentle Ukitake.

In truth, Ukitake just didn’t want to overstay their welcome. If it were up to Shunsui, he would have happily stayed to act as a third wheel and gossip.

But the price of being a third wheel around Shin usually involved a beating and a prolonged stay in the Fourth Division barracks. Forget the physical pain—the embarrassment alone would be unbearable.

With the two spectators gone, only Yoruichi, Unohana, and Shin remained.

“Shin, the technique you developed still isn’t good enough. It didn’t have much effect at all,” Yoruichi complained to Shin.

Hearing this, Shin felt a strong urge to smack her. ‘You’re blaming the technique? It’s clearly because you’re too weak to use it properly!’
