"Alright, we can eat now. It took quite a while to get this ready, but once we’re done, we won’t have much time to rest — we’ll pack up and head straight off," Hiroshi said with a smile, handing her a bowl of rice porridge and another of vegetable soup.

Harumiko nodded happily as she took them. "That’s fine. We can rest for just a few minutes after eating and then go. We slept more than enough last night, and with our stamina, we’ll be good to go in no time."

"Great. Let’s eat quickly then — before it gets cold. I’m sure it tastes best while it’s still piping hot," Hiroshi replied.

She nodded and took a sip. The flavour was surprisingly good. It wasn’t as rich or fancy as what they were used to, but something light like this was perfect for the morning.

"Not bad at all! You’re really good at this — you’ve definitely got a talent for cooking. If we ever live together someday, I guess you’ll be in charge of all our meals! Haha," she joked playfully.

Hiroshi grinned. "I wouldn’t mind that at all. I’d never be unhappy about cooking every day. Honestly, it would be an honour to make food for you."

She beamed with happiness and kept eating.

"This is actually the first time I’ve made vegetable soup, and it turned out pretty well. We’ve got a new dish to add to our list now. I’ll make it more often from now on — it’s really good for our health," Hiroshi said softly, enjoying his own meal.

Harumiko agreed completely. Everyone needs vegetables, and eating more of them does nothing but good for the body.

They sat quietly by the fire, finishing their food. Even a simple meal like this felt wonderful, simply because they had each other’s company.

"We need to cover about a third of the whole journey today. If we fall behind, it’ll delay getting home. So we have to keep up a good pace. That’s why we’re eating well now — and at noon, we’ll have some meat to boost our energy," Hiroshi told her.

She nodded seriously. She knew very well that the sooner they got home, the better.

"Don’t worry. After such a good rest last night, I feel full of energy and ready to move fast. And did you notice? It was completely quiet all night — not a single sound or movement around us. This forest is really peaceful," she said between sips of soup.

Hiroshi nodded — he had slept soundly too and heard nothing at all.

"True. I don’t know exactly where we’ll end up sleeping tonight, but I expect it’ll be much the same as here. Sleeping in trees is okay, but finding a cave would be ideal. Especially if it rains — caves give great shelter," he said softly.

Harumiko nodded. Finding a cave was almost a luxury out here. When it rains, finding cover is hard — even finding trees thick enough to keep you dry isn’t easy.

"Still, the weather looks great for the next few days, so I doubt it’ll rain. And I remember there are some hills ahead — I’m sure we’ll find caves there. Lucky for us, we’re both sound sleepers who don’t roll around. If we were the kind of people who move a lot in their sleep, we’d have fallen right out of the tree and been in big trouble!" she said with a laugh.

Hiroshi smiled and nodded. He knew exactly what she meant — unlike some people, they both slept perfectly still through the night.
