And so time passed slowly, and the two of them stayed like that for quite a while—with Harumiko held up high, resting on Hiroshi’s shoulders. Hiroshi really did have great stamina; he managed to keep holding her up for far longer than anyone might have expected.

"Harumiko, I think I need to take a break. We’ve been standing here for so long, and I’m starting to get really tired. Why don’t you come down for a little while and let me rest?" Hiroshi said softly, looking up with a gentle smile at the girl perched on his shoulders.

Harumiko nodded with a smile and replied, "Alright, Hiroshi. You can put me down now. Go ahead and get some rest—thank you so much for doing this for me."

With that, Hiroshi slowly lowered Harumiko back down to the ground, making sure she landed safely on her feet. The moment he let go, he felt a wave of relief wash over him, and his whole body felt light and relaxed.

"Thank you so much, Hiroshi. You worked really hard for me, didn’t you? Please take it easy now. Why don’t we go stand or sit somewhere over there? It’s still really crowded right here in the middle," Harumiko said softly with a smile, taking Hiroshi’s hand and leading him away.

Hiroshi let himself be guided by her until they reached the side of the road, where he slowly sat down. Harumiko then moved behind him and began to gently massage his sore shoulders.

"Thank you so much, Harumiko... you really are the best person I’ve ever known. Having you in my life is all I could ever ask for. It feels like I must have been blessed with good fortune for a lifetime just to end up with such a wonderful girl like you. I promise I’ll always cherish you, and I’ll make sure I treat you well for the rest of my life," Hiroshi said softly, turning his head slightly and speaking to her with a warm smile.

Hearing his words, a sweet smile spread across Harumiko’s face. It had been a long time since anyone had praised her like this, and her hands moved with such skill and ease—proof that she must have done this many times before, probably massaging her parents’ shoulders at home. She was such a thoughtful and caring girl, always looking out for the people she loved.

"Rest assured, Hiroshi. I promise I’ll take good care of you too. Though sometimes I think you really are just like a little child who never grows up... you definitely need me by your side to look after you, otherwise you’d be completely lost. And if you ever lose me, I promise you’ll regret it for the rest of your life," Harumiko whispered softly, leaning her head close to his ear.

Hiroshi laughed happily at her words, his heart filled with overwhelming warmth and joy. It was the first time anyone had ever spoken to him like this, and it felt like something out of a dream—something so wonderful and strange that he could hardly believe it was real.

"By the way, Harumiko... why were you feeling so shy earlier?" Hiroshi asked her softly, still smiling.

Harumiko stepped around to stand beside him and replied quietly, "Because there were so many people around, and you suddenly just lifted me right up and put me on your shoulders... of course I was going to feel embarrassed by something like that!"

"What’s there to be embarrassed about? You were the one who kissed me this morning, remember? After doing something like that, why would something as simple as me lifting you up to get a better view be such a big deal?" Hiroshi said teasingly, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

Harumiko’s face instantly turned bright red. She playfully punched Hiroshi’s arm and said softly, "You’re so naughty, Hiroshi! You were already awake, and you just pretended to be asleep the whole time... you really are awful! If you tease me like this again, I promise I won’t talk to you anymore! And besides... that was my very first kiss. You absolutely have to take responsibility for me now!"

"Don’t worry, I will take responsibility for you. I may not be the best person in the world, but when it comes to you, I always mean what I say and I’ll never let you down. And I’ll let you in on a little secret... that was my first kiss too," Hiroshi whispered softly, leaning in close to her ear.

Harumiko’s face turned even redder than before, the colour spreading all the way down to the tips of her ears. It felt like she had just heard the most amazing thing she could ever imagine. But then she thought back to how Hiroshi had always been—quiet, reserved, and keeping mostly to himself. There had never been any other girls in his life, so what he said really did make perfect sense.

"Alright, alright... let’s not talk about this anymore. But if you keep teasing me like this, I really won’t speak to you anymore. And you know me well enough by now—when I say something, I always mean it," Harumiko said softly with a smile.

Hiroshi nodded happily in response. At that moment, he felt as though he had finally found everything he could ever want or need in life. His life now was far better than anything he had experienced in his old world, because here he had the person who meant more to him than anything else. And he knew, without any doubt, that he was just as important to her as she was to him.
