Chapter 28: Two-way mirror
"Ha!" The man stabbed forward with his sword. Following his action, the hundreds of sword shadows behind him flew forward as well.
A wave of sword shadows rained down on the mountain; their targets were Feng Shuran and Gu Chen, who were standing in front of the courtyard.
Swish!!!
Hundreds of sword shadows swept through the air like a tide of blades, ignoring the spinning flags and formation plate in the air before shooting straight at the center of the mountain.
But before they could fly too far, the sword shadows crashed into something and began to explode one after the other.
The sounds of hundreds of sword shadows exploding in quick succession filled the air for a few seconds as a cloud of black smoke blocked a part of the sky for a moment.
It took a few seconds for the space to clear up, and the Cultivators could finally see the mountain peak again.
"What a sturdy barrier," the man who had attacked with the sword shadows said in astonishment.
That attack was his strongest move, and although he hadn’t perfected it, he was able to shatter mountains with the sword shadows. Yet, they didn’t even leave a scratch on the barrier around this mountain!
The barrier was still invisible, meaning it was still in perfect shape.
Just what was the grade of this barrier?
The other cultivators had the same thought. They were hoping for cracks or ripples to at least appear on the barrier around the mountain. At least they would be able to see what it looked like by then.
But after blocking hundreds of sword shadows, the barrier didn’t even shake!
If they couldn’t destroy the barrier, they wouldn’t be able to kill this Nascent Soul Realm assassin.
Not only would everything they had prepared go to waste, but their lives would also be in danger if Feng Shuran didn’t die today!
Thankfully, they already made plans for this.
"Hahaha, I never imagined that the invisible killer would be hiding behind a barrier after showing her strength yesterday." A disdainful laugh resounded through the air.
Everyone turned and saw a beautiful woman in a green robe flying forward while sitting on the back of a winged beast. She had long silver hair and sharp blue eyes that looked like the surface of a calm sea.
She was the head of the Beast Tamer Guild.
Not only was she at the Core Formation Realm, but her winged beast was a spirit beast, equal to a Core Formation Realm cultivator!
Riding her winged beast to the front, the woman stopped laughing and glared down at Feng Shuran as she waved her hand.
"Unfortunately for you, we already knew about your formation and prepared for it."
As she said this, a mirror with golden edges appeared above her right hand, which she threw forward.
The mirror quickly grew in size after leaving her hand and quickly became the size of a carriage that floated in front of her.
The surface of the mirror was extremely clear, yet it reflected nothing, making it look like a thick fog was stored inside and not even sunlight could pass through.
"Invisible killer, take a good look. With this, your barrier will crumble; you’ll have nowhere else to hide!" The silver-haired woman laughed wildly, her voice filled with hatred.
From her tone, it was obvious that she had a past grudge with Feng Shuran.
"Everyone, attack this mirror as much as you want!" After she stopped laughing, the woman turned to the cultivators behind her and told them to attack the mirror.
On the ground, a surprised glint flashed across Gu Chen’s eyes for the first time.
"What is such a magical treasure doing here?" He mumbled softly.
Feng Shuran heard this and turned to look at him.
"Master, what type of magical treasure is that?" She asked; she didn’t know what that mirror was.
"This type of treasure is called the Two-way Mirror, a magical treasure capable of absorbing attacks from allies and enemies and sending them out as a single attack.
It’s a very valuable treasure; try not to destroy it later." Gu Chen explained as he watched the cultivators send different attacks into the mirror.
He couldn’t help but shake his head. Such a treasure in the hands of a Core Formation Realm cultivator was a waste. The number of attacks that the mirror could absorb depended on the cultivation of its owner. With such a level of cultivation, this mirror isn’t being used to its full potential.
"I understand," Feng Shuran nodded and resumed watching the cultivators send attacks into the mirror.
Sword shadows, spear strikes, magical attacks, elemental strikes...
All sorts of attacks were aimed at the mirror by the surrounding cultivators.
Barely half a minute after the mirror appeared, hundreds of attacks had been thrown inside.
"Stop!" The silver-haired woman shouted, small beads of sweat rolling down her face.
She had reached her limit and couldn’t store any more attacks. The mirror was a soul-bound magical treasure and was connected to her soul. Currently, her soul felt very full, and she felt like she would burst if she took any more attacks.
Hearing her voice, the Cultivators immediately stopped attacking.
The surface of the mirror gleamed as it drifted towards the woman. It was as if the fog was clearing out and a sun was surfacing inside the mirror.
Before it reached the woman, the mirror had shrunk to its previous size, now looking like a normal mirror, but its aura was vastly different from before.
Holding the mirror in her right hand, a strong gust of wind blew around the woman, pushing some of the weaker cultivators away from her.
"Invisible killer, prepare to die!" she yelled and pointed the face of the mirror at the mountain.
For the first time, the surface of the mirror finally reflected the view in front of it.
Immediately, it did.
Boom!
A violent blast rang out as a terrifying red light flew out of the mirror and shot toward the mountain it was reflecting.
This red light carried an oppressive aura that caused the surroundings to distort as it shot forward, cracks forming in thin air.
The mirror had actually managed to raise the attacks it absorbed to the level of a peak Nascent Soul Realm attack!
BAM!!!!
The sound was deafening as the red light met the forcefield around the mountain. A terrifying shockwave erupted as a result and sent all the cultivators flying back and slamming into the yellow barrier formed by the formation flags, preventing them from being blown too far away.
Some of them knelt on their flying swords and coughed up blood, while others held their chest in pain. The shockwave was just too powerful, just how terrifying was the red light?
A massive cloud of black smoke covered the surface of the mountain for a while after the red light struck the forcefield, preventing the Cultivators from seeing what had happened afterwards.
"Did the barrier break?" a Foundation Establishment Realm junior asked, trying to look through the cloud of smoke.
"What do you think? That attack from the mirror could kill a Core Formation Realm cultivator instantly, of course the barrier wouldn’t remain standing." Someone else replied with a cold snort.
"That magical treasure is simply too strong, it could create such an attack!"
While the juniors discussed, the Core Formation Realm cultivators stared at the smoke screen with serious expressions and didn’t say anything.
They felt that something wasn’t right. The sound that followed after the light met the barrier wasn’t what they expected.
That explosion wasn’t all they expected.
Unwilling to wait any longer, the sect master of the Rising Wave sect stepped forward and waved one of his hands.
"Scatter," he muttered, releasing a small amount of qi to control the wind around him.
The air rolled under the man’s control and a gust of wind swept past, clearing away the cloud of smoke in an instant.
It was then that they saw it. A faint golden barrier that surrounded the mountain peak, gentle ripples spread across its surface for a bit before it disappeared and turned invisible again.
The eyes of all the cultivators widened in disbelief when they witnessed this.
The Core Formation Realm cultivators were even more shaken after discovering that the barrier didn’t break.
That attack didn’t manage to even crack it!
"W-what type of barrier is this?" The silver-haired woman stammered in horror.
The mirror was her ultimate treasure and was the solution to the barrier after their planning yesterday. She had already outdone herself by almost causing her soul to explode just to make sure that attack worked.
She was horrified to see that it didn’t cause any harm to the barrier, and she couldn’t repeat that again because the next one wouldn’t be as powerful as the previous one.
They weren’t doomed!
Since they couldn’t destroy the barrier and force the Invisible Killer to come out, wouldn’t they just be sitting ducks?
Once the formation plate ran out of energy and her strength returned, she could easily kill them all!
On the ground.
After the force field blocked the red light, Feng Shuran finally got to see the barrier around the mountain.
’There really is a barrier!’ she thought in surprise. As a Nascent Soul Realm cultivator, she couldn’t even sense it.
The grade of the barrier must be very high.
"Kill them."
Gu Chen’s voice suddenly reached her ears.
