Chapter 325: Attack At The Palace(II) (Bonus)
She stared below at how most of the palace had already fallen into ruin. The once-grand structure now looked like the aftermath of a natural disaster.
More importantly, however, the battlefield had finally been established.
And it appeared destined to become a three-way conflict.
King Carson sat atop his flying dragon, staring down at the smiling Audrey.
The armor and helmet he wore were not ordinary equipment, rather they were the result of his fusion with his second summon, Sir Lancelot, one of the legendary Knights of the Round Table.
The fusion altered his appearance as well.
The hair flowing from beneath the helmet was no longer its usual black. It had turned white, grown noticeably longer, and trailed behind him.
Meanwhile, the bluish-glowing sword resting in his right hand was known as Sigurd. Unlike Lancelot, Sigurd was an object-type summon.
Within the weapon resided the soul of a dead dragon, making it Carson’s third summon.
Both Lancelot and Sigurd were regarded as Emperor-Class summons.
Bella was floating to Carson’s far left, her eyes locked onto Anton with so much fury.
Meanwhile, the blonde haired grand Caster had just snapped his fingers, causing a staff-like artifact to appear within his right hand.
On the opposite side, General Iroh hovered by the King’s left flank, fixing his gaze upon the expressionless Esmeray.
The battle lines had been drawn.
However, there was still a third party making his way toward this battlefield.
Not because he knew what was currently happening.
If Ethan had known Audrey intended to launch her assault tonight, he would have moved far faster, and would have brought both Hayley and his butler along as well.
But Ethan knew none of that.
Just as he had promised the princess earlier, he had left Stark Manor under the effects of the flight spell, Ars Levitas, and was making his way toward the King’s Palace with the sole intention of planning for a war he believed would not begin until the next day.
—
Carson’s dragon roared, the sound shaking the atmosphere as it suddenly veered downward.
At the same time, every other parties moved towards each other and battle erupted instantly.
Beilong opened its mouth and unleashed a concentrated beam of flames toward Audrey.
The attack had shot through the air like a burning spear, but Audrey calmly raised a hand toward it.
The moment the beam entered the range of her Time Zone, its advance slowed dramatically. And what should have crossed the distance in an instant instead became sluggish, almost frozen.
However, the dragon did not stop its relentless stream of flames. In fact, Its color gradually shifted from orange to blue as the temperature increased further.
Since its descent had effectively been halted at a single point within Audrey’s zone, the flames began accumulating there instead of advancing.
More and more fire compressed into the same location, leading the congested inferno to expand outward.
Within seconds, Audrey’s entire line of sight had become engulfed by the sheer volume of flames she was holding in place above herself.
It was at that moment that Carson acted.
Standing atop Beilong’s back, the King raised Sigurd toward the heavens and the sword immediately erupted with bluish mana.
Energy surged through the weapon in violent waves, extending its reach farther and farther as it transformed into a colossal construct of blue light, resembling a giant beam piercing into the night sky.
Then Carson disappeared from Beilong’s back and reappeared beside Audrey, crossing the distance at a speed that seemed to defy reason as he swung Sigurd in a horizontal arc.
The King had hoped to catch her off guard, since her view had been completely obscured by the sea of flames she was currently holding in place above herself.
However, Audrey’s attention had not faltered even once.
The instant before the glowing blade could strike, Carson found himself caught within her time halt.
His body froze.
Audrey currently had her left hand raised toward the roaring torrent of flames above, maintaining her control over it.
Meanwhile, her right arm stretched outward to the side, radiating greenish aura from her palm and holding Carson exactly where he was.
The King had his teeth gritted as the time magic locked him in place.
Audrey’s smile widened at the sight, then her eyes moved between the King held in temporal stasis and the ocean of flames suspended overhead.
Then she disappeared from her standpoint; the sight of which looked like afterimages walking backward.
It was as though a trail of translucent Audreys suddenly stretched behind her position. Each image existed at a different point she had occupied only moments ago.
Then, one after another, those images folded into each other in reverse order until they all converged into a single point, with Audrey reappearing at the very end of that collapsing trail.
What she had done was move backward through a timeline relative to herself.
A Position Reversion.
A skill that allowed her to return to a location she had already occupied.
The moment Audrey vacated the space between Carson and the suspended inferno, her control vanished from both targets simultaneously.
The time halt holding both Carson and the congestion of flames released, and all the fire compressed into that single point erupted downward at once, swallowing Carson completely.
A deafening explosion followed, detonating across the battlefield.
From her new position farther away, Audrey simply watched with a smiling expression.
However, a figure steadily emerged from the inferno. It was the silhouette of a fiery knight walked out from the heart of the flames themselves.
Every step Carson took forward left burning footprints etched into the ground beneath him.
The fire clinging to his body roared around his armor, turning him into what looked like a knight forged entirely from living flames.
At the same time, the bluish energy around Sigurd reignited, extending once more into a colossal beam of blue light.
Audrey’s smile disappeared. She had expected a far more damaging outcome.
But at the very last moment, Carson had borrowed a peculiar skill from Beilong and wrapped his entire body in the dragon’s flames.
Much like the effect it had on the dragon itself, the ability had transformed Carson into a being cloaked in fire, granting him protection against the overwhelming torrent that had engulfed him.
The King continued forward through the fading flames, while Beilong circled around from above
The massive dragon approached from behind Audrey’s position, its jaws opening as it unleashed yet another vast stream of flames toward her.
But it wasn’t only Beilong attacking.
Carson acted at the same time, raising Sigurd overhead and bringing the giant blade of blue energy down in a devastating arc.
The attack was enormous, extending across the entire battlefield as it carved toward Audrey’s position.
For the briefest moment, it appeared as though both attacks would converge on her simultaneously.
Then Audrey extended a palm outward, forming greenish orb of energy above it.
Without hesitation, she slammed her hand into the ground, causing an omnidirectional implosion to erupt from her position.
The wave expanded spread throughout the full reach of her Time Zone, sweeping across the battlefield like a tidal wave.
The moment it struck Carson, both he and his attack were thrown backward as the descending beam of Sigurd shattered apart before reaching her.
At the same time, the force of the implosion disrupted the King’s fusion, breaking both he and Lancelot apart.
Carson and his summon were hurled away from each other, crashing onto the ruined palace grounds several meters apart as the wave continued racing across the battlefield.
Even Sigurd itself had lost its bluish radiance.
Likewise, the searing stream of flames Beilong had unleashed from behind Audrey had been forcefully pushed backward by the implosive wave before dissolving completely.
The reversal generated a violent backlash, resulting in a shockwave that rippled through the air and struck Beilong head-on, forcing the enormous dragon to beat her wings backward to stabilize herself.
The attack Audrey had just unleashed was known as a Time Bomb, and anything caught within its influence would have its state reset to a previous point in time.
