Chapter 324: Attack At The Palace

Night had fully settled over the city’s landscape.

The massive doors leading into the throne room opened, and Isabella stepped inside.

She had arrived to answer her father, who had at some point, finally emerged from his private quarters after remaining isolated for most of the day.

She walked toward the throne before stopping at a respectful distance and inclining her head slightly.

"You called for me, Father?"

By the side of the throne, General Iroh also inclined his head toward the Princess in greeting.

King Carson gave a nod. "Yes. There is something I wanted to say."

Isabella looked up curiously.

The King’s gaze lingered on her for a moment before he spoke. "I never formally thanked you."

That only confused her further. "Thank me for what?"

Carson exhaled before continuing. "You’ve helped me more than you realize. In truth, I have not been a great father to any of you, and you made me see that.

The admission seemed difficult for him.

"Of all my children, you probably had the most reason to turn against me alongside your siblings. But you didn’t."

He paused briefly. "You remained loyal. Not just as my daughter, but as a citizen of this kingdom."

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"So you have my gratitude, Isabella. And my praise."

For a moment, Isabella simply stared at him, genuine surprised. She could not remember a single occasion in her life where her father had openly praised her.

A smile slowly formed on her face as she lowered her head again. "Thank you, Father."

But the moment the words left her lips, all three individuals inside the throne room suddenly felt a powerful wave of magic wash over the palace.

A subtle green aura manifested around their bodies, in a bid to drag their bodies toward their end points.

The effects barely managed to take hold on Isabella and the King. Their status as members of the Grand Class allowed them to resist it, though neither did so effortlessly.

General Iroh, however, was not as fortunate.

Lines began appearing across his skin and his breathing became heavier as age was being forced upon him.

But it wasn’t only them. The entire palace had fallen under the effect.

Cracks began spreading across sections of the walls, weakening the stones and support structures.

The integrity of the palace itself was being driven toward collapse as centuries of wear were forced upon it in mere moments.

Both Isabella and Carson immediately looked toward one another, their eyes widening in realization.

There was only one person capable of doing something like this.

Audrey Desdemona.

Outside the palace grounds, Lady Audrey had already crossed through the main gates and took slow steps forward.

She had both palms raised slightly to her sides as a green glow surrounded her figure.

Every path she walked simply aged. The stone beneath her feet weathered, the flowers wilted, metal rusted and wood structures rotted.

The guards unfortunate enough to be caught directly within her influence rapidly deteriorated as their bodies were pushed toward their natural end.

Some collapsed before they could even understand what was happening.

To Audrey’s left, Esmeray floated several feet above the ground.

She had extended her arm remained toward the left section of the palace, forming multiple magic circles over her palm.

From them emerged dozens of nearly invisible threads that shot across to slice through pillars, support beams, and sections of reinforced walls.

The guards who had been desperately trying to retreat deeper into the palace found sections of the building collapsing around them.

Their deaths had been swift.

Anton, on the other hand, hovered to Audrey’s right side. He raised a hand forward and snapped his fingers.

As a sudden result, an unfinished three-story building appeared out of thin air high above the palace building, suspended for only a brief instant before it plunged from the sky toward the main throne section.

Anton barely spared it a glance. He simply turned his attention toward another section of the palace and snapped his fingers again.

A second building materialized overhead and immediately began its descent.

However, in that same moment—

A deafening explosion of stone and timber erupted from the roof of the palace as a massive black dragon tore through the ceiling of the main palace structure.

The dark scaled creature measured well over one hundred and fifty feet in length, its wings unfurling with enough force to scatter debris in every direction.

The dragon surged upward and smashed directly into the unfinished three-story building as it fell, exploding it outward into a storm of debris as the dragon ploughed through the structure, reducing it to countless fragments that rained down across the palace grounds.

Sitting upon the dragon’s back were two figures.

The first was King Carson, who had transitioned from royal garments to the armor of a knight, and in his hand rested a strange sword radiating a blue glow.

And the second figure, was General Iroh.

The moment the dragon tore through the three-story structure, Iroh let himself drop away from its back, maintaining his own flight under the influence of gravity magic.

By taking his general out of the throne room and lifting him into the skies, the king had also taken him beyond Audrey’s Time Zone.

The reach of her field was immense across the ground, but its vertical limit extended only roughly two hundred meters upward.

The moment someone escaped that range, the aging effect would gradually begin to fade.

Of course, that only applied if irreversible damage had not already been done. A body whose organs had already failed would not simply recover.

Nor would the dead return.

Additionally, certain advanced applications could also anchor the effect to a target and continue its influence even beyond the zone itself.

Fortunately for Iroh, none of those conditions had yet been met.

However, there had been no time to stop the second falling structure. But the casualties it had been intended to create had been prevented nonetheless.

This was because, in the same instant Carson burst through the throne room ceiling, Isabella’s body had dissolved completely into shadows.

Absolute darkness then spread outward from her position, flooding the palace grounds like a tide. They swept through corridors, courtyards, chambers, hallways, and walkways alike, dragging every guard, servant, soldier, and civilian they touched into her shadow realm before Audrey’s aging magic could take further hold of them.

Thankfully, by doing so, not only had a vast majority of those within the palace been spared from continuing to age forward, but they had also been saved from being crushed beneath the collapsing sections of the palace.

Of course, not everyone could be saved.

The most unfortunate victims had been the security personnel stationed at the entrance.

After them came those with exceptionally weak magic resistance.

Magic resistance was directly tied to one’s talent level. The lower a person’s talent, the lower their resistance to foreign magical effects. In Audrey’s case, that meant they became far more susceptible to her spell and fell victim to its effects at a significantly faster rate.

As a result, low-tiered individuals were often the easiest targets for her time manipulation.

However, there was another factor at play.

Audrey was not directing her spell toward a handful of people. She was attempting to affect hundreds simultaneously.

And among those targets, were two members of the Grand Class.

The sheer scale of what she was trying to influence diluted the immediate effectiveness of her magic across the collective group, slowing the rate at which the aging effect took hold.

That slight reduction in the effectiveness of her spell had been enough to buy the majority of the palace a few precious extra minutes before Isabella’s shadows swept them away.

The darkness that had consumed nearly the entire palace ground now began retracting, condensing toward a single point before rising into the air.

The shadows shifted and reshaped themselves into a humanoid figure.

A fully shadow-formed Isabella emerged from it, carrying countless people within her shadow.
