Back at the Great Serpent’s Pass...

The battle had continued with tremendous intensity across every part of the battlefield.

Jillia may not have drawn the attention of the provincial lords, who had focused entirely on Nathan, but she was still being forced to deal with several of their right-hands at once.

Five of the nine right-hands she had to face were Grade 7 demons.

That alone would have been difficult enough, but the other four were Grade 8 demons, placing them on equal footing with her.

Even so, Jillia had maintained a frightening pace.

She had just clashed swords with two blademaster demons, weaving between them with precise movements while deflecting both of their attacks.

She leaped out of their range, only to be met almost instantly by a concentrated burst of blue demonic magic that came traveling toward her from above.

Jillia immediately stretched out her sword, the Dhurandar, toward the incoming blast.

The moment the concentrated energy reached the blade, all of its magical power was absorbed directly into the sword.

Jillia then turned around in a swift motion, swinging the Dhurandar which released a flying blue slash.

The sword released the blue magic it had absorbed, transforming the concentrated blast into a powerful magical slash that traveled toward the group of demons rushing in behind her.

This was the special ability of the Dhurandar.

The sword could absorb magical spells and release the absorbed energy through its own slashes.

It was a weapon originally owned by the former Lord Krygon and had been given to Jillia by Nathan so she could use it in battle.

The demons following behind her had not expected the attack; One of them was struck and subdued immediately, while the others were forced to go on defense against the full brunt of the magical slash.

Jillia quickly created some distance from them, but was immediately forced to dodge several more attacks from the other surrounding demons that continued their assault.

She moved from one direction to another, deflecting and avoiding each attack as she continued to bide her time; hoping she would be able to keep this up for longer time.

——

As for Nathan, he was currently flying at tremendous speed across an unknown part of the area.

His movements were erratic, weaving in different directions in an attempt to evade the dozens of dark-red arrows raining down on him in rapid succession.

The arrows had been fired by Mezoris, one of the eight provincial lords Nathan was currently facing. She was a Grade 9 marksman demon who wielded her abilities through an extremely powerful bow and arrow.

Several glowing purple skulls floated around Nathan as he flew past the incoming arrows.

These glowing skulls were manifestations of the several thousand vengeful spirits Nathan had under his control through his Astral Magic.

One of these vengeful spirits was also the reason behind his current flight speed.

You see, Nathan could have his spirits inhabit both animate and inanimate things, whether tangible or intangible. This even included the wind and air around him.

By having one of the spirits take possession of the wind surrounding his body, Nathan was able to manipulate it and use the additional force to accelerate his flight, allowing him to evade most of Mezoris’s attacks.

Mezoris, the black-haired demon lord with green skin, wore a subtle grin as she raised her bow and nocked another arrow.

A powerful darkish red aura surrounded the weapon.

She was positioned roughly ten kilometers away from Nathan, yet was still able to fire at him with remarkable accuracy.

Mezoris released the arrow which traveled high into the sky before suddenly splitting apart into multiples.

Several hundreds of dark-red arrows emerged from the single projectile. There were so many that it was difficult to count them, but every single one homed in on Nathan.

Unlike the previous attacks that had come at him in succession, this time the arrows surrounded him from every possible direction, seemingly blocking off every angle of escape.

Nathan immediately stopped in mid-air, then raised one hand above his head as a large purple magic circle appeared overhead.

From within the circle, thousands of ethereal purple lights flew out of it; they were manifestations of the vengeful spirits under Nathan’s control.

The spirits flew toward the incoming arrows. And the moment each purple light made contact with an arrow, the projectile froze in mid-air.

The dark-red glow surrounding the arrows gradually changed, turning purple as the spirits took possession of the projectiles themselves.

Nathan had seized control of Mezoris’s arrows.

Mezoris was a Grade 9 demon, and compared to Nathan a grade 10, the strength of her abilities was lower.

Now that Nathan had stopped his continuous flight, several of the demons pursuing him were rapidly closing the distance.

Among them were Eolagar, the berserker demon lord, Irgrarin, and Delgran.

They were all moving toward Nathan at tremendous speed.

Nathan glanced toward the approaching demon lords. Then, with a simple flick of his fingers, the arrows he had taken control of suddenly turned in mid-air., changing directions.

The hundreds of dark-red projectiles, now glowing purple, rained down toward the three demon lords closest to Nathan.

However, the demon lords quickly sprung into action to defend themselves from the incoming attack.

Irgrarin was a great fighter who was dual-classed between Gladiator and Sorcerer, allowing him to engage in close combat while also wielding powerful red flames.

The bare-chested, pale-skinned demon with brown hair immediately swung both hands toward the sky when he saw the flurry of arrows approaching.

His fists began moving at a frightening speed, creating after-images as he threw punch after punch into the air.

Each punch carried the power of red-hot flames, and the resulting barrage of fiery strikes burned through a large number of the incoming arrows before they could reach him.

Eolagar, meanwhile, simply laughed. The massive berserker demon lord stretched both arms out to his sides and allowed himself to take the full brunt of several arrows that struck his body.

His black armor absorbed most of the damage, providing him with the protection he needed as the arrows struck against him.

He allowed the attack happen. After all, he knew that an attack of this level was unlikely to kill him.

As for Delgran, the Grade 9 sorcerer demon immediately created a magical shield around himself, protecting his body from the majority of the incoming arrows.

Nathan had gained a brief respite. But that did not mean the relentless assault had stopped.
