My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 571: Continue?
Chapter 569
With Layla and Raze combining their prowess, they tore through the Aberrants, steadily thinning their numbers.
A few metres away, the cohort stood watching, their eyes wide with disbelief as they witnessed the two powerhouses in action.
"Who-who is she? She’s a monster," Caster coughed out, his eyes struggling to keep up with Layla’s movements. Her attacks were fluid and almost enchanting, yet there was something utterly crazy about the way she executed them.
"She’s awesome, but look at the Captain," Chloe muttered, swallowing nervously as her gaze shifted towards Raze.
The Captain tilted his head to the side, allowing an incoming attack to pass him before his axe spun around his hand and slammed into the Aberrant’s arm with such force that he could have been mistaken for a werewolf.
CRACK!
The entire arm shattered, leaving broken bones jutting out from the mangled limb. Raze followed up with a fluid swing of his battle axe, smashing into the creature’s chest and sending its massive body flying backward.
But before it could travel far, the earth rose behind it, forming a solid wall.
BOOM!
The Aberrant crashed into the wall with immense force, its body slamming against the solid surface as saliva burst from its mouth.
Raze pointed his hand forward and twisted it.
Immediately, earth spears burst out from the wall, impaling the creature. The dense, powerful spikes tore through whatever rocky armour it wore, pinning it firmly against the surface.
The Aberrant was left hanging from the earth wall, bleeding heavily and possibly dead, as Raze calmly turned towards his next target.
"Kai, I saw you and her together. Who’s she to you?" Felix asked, turning towards the handsome Legacy who had remained unusually quiet ever since they regrouped.
The moment the question was asked, Kai’s expression darkened.
His heartbeat accelerated, growing louder with every passing second until Felix’s brows drew together. The sound was becoming almost as noticeable as it had been earlier.
*Huh?*
"Sh-sh—"
"Hahahaha! This is so funnnn!" Layla cried out like a madwoman.
Her shadow chains spun wildly around her as she continued cutting down more and more Aberrants, seemingly enjoying every second of the slaughter.
"—My sister," Kai finally finished, his hands curling into fists.
"..."
"...?!"
The squad turned their heads towards the grinning Layla, then back to Kai.
Then they looked at Layla again.
And back at Kai.
"That mad—uh... that beautiful young lady is your sister? But you aren’t as ma—uh... impulsive as her!" Van exclaimed.
Kai gritted his teeth but offered no reply.
Felix narrowed his eyes, studying his friend’s expression.
"Why don’t you look happy about her being here? She’s your sister, isn’t she? Why do yo—?"
"—Because she’s here to take me back home!" Kai exclaimed, his jaw tightening.
"I-I don’t want to return, but I’m being forced to go back. I-I don’t want to pa—"
"We will stop her," Trisha replied bluntly, without the slightest change in her expression.
"..."
Kai blinked a few times before turning towards her.
"Huh?"
Trisha finally tore her gaze away from Layla and looked back at Kai.
"You don’t want to return, right?"
Kai slowly nodded.
"Then you won’t. We won’t let her take you."
Chloe audibly gulped, her eyes refusing to leave Layla as she watched the woman tear through the Aberrants.
"I’m not sure you’re seeing what I am. The same creatures that made us incapable of fighting right now are what she’s dealing with without sustaining as much as a—"
"And we battled an Emperor-Rank beast and won. We battled a Five-Spined Aberrant and came out alive. We’ve faced worse odds before," Trisha smoothly cut her off.
"...Besides, aren’t we family? Why should we let an outsider break up our family?"
Kai was stunned.
His eyelids fluttered repeatedly as different emotions welled up inside him.
He didn’t know whether to cry or laugh at the situation.
He knew his friends would never willingly let him go. At the same time, he knew Layla would do everything in her power to take him back home, even if it meant getting rid of his friends.
He couldn’t allow anything to happen to his sister.
And he couldn’t allow anything to happen to his friends, either.
’I guess I have no choice, huh? I’ll have to leave before Ray gets back. Otherwise...’
He feared what might happen, only for Van to walk towards him and place a hand on the handsome Legacy’s shoulder.
"Don’t worry, Kai. We won’t let anything happen to you. We’re always with you, and we’ve got your back, just like you’ve always had ours. I promise," the tech genius uttered, his eyes gleaming blue for a moment.
Kai felt his skin crawl at the boy’s words.
Why was he suddenly so serious?
Soon enough, Van’s eyes dimmed back to normal, and he took a step back, leaving Kai alone.
’There’s nothing anybody can do. Even if the Order dares to interfere, my family will wipe them all out. I-I just can’t. Sigh... I hate my life! Arghhh!’
With a tear sliding down the corner of his eye, he looked back towards the battlefield. The Aberrants had now been reduced to about half a dozen between Layla and Raze.
By his estimation, they should be done within a minute or two.
And then, his fate would be sealed.
...
CRUNCH!
Chew—! Chew—! Chew!
CRUNCH!
Ray was seen devouring the Aberrant’s leg as though it were a piece of chicken.
Blue blood dribbled down his lips, mixing with saliva as his powerful canines and jaws crushed the hard limb.
Neither the bones nor the rocky scales could stop the Tribrid from enjoying his meal.
Some of the viewers watching the livestream felt their stomachs churn, while others immediately threw up at the sight before them.
Even Johnny had to tear his gaze away from the camera as dizziness washed over him.
[Proud Hater: You all see?! A werewolf will always remain a werewolf. If he can do this to an Aberrant, what’s stopping him from doing this to a human?! See?!]
[Wall Rose citizen 101: Shut your fuck-ass mouth, you jackass! He’s trying to retake our home for us, but what do I see you doing? Running your mouth on the keyboard.]
[Watcher: I don’t give a dime what he is. As long as he retakes the Wall, I won’t mind. I want to return home, and he’s the only one who can give us back our home, so he has my support.]
[Shop master: I promise you, Ray, just retake the Wall for us, and I’ll feed you as much raw meat as you want. I know you’ll like it better than the dumbass who promised you sweets.]
Oblivious to the comments, Ray continued devouring the limb until nothing remained except a hand stained with blood.
Lifting his head, he looked at the shocked Aberrant and belched loudly, patting his belly. He then glanced to the side as his System interface flashed before him.
[Welp, Host has gone mad. He literally decided to consume part of an Aberrant in the middle of a battle. Good job, regardless, as you have decided to embrace your inner self some more.]
[So, rewards for consuming the leg in the middle of a battle]
[Rewards: HP fully regenerated; Energy bar fully restored; +10 END; +5 STR; +10 AGI.]
[First time consuming Aberrant flesh bonus: +300 EXP; +10 free stat points.]
The corner of Ray’s mouth lifted into a knowing grin. He licked his lips before tilting his neck to the side and fixing his gaze on the creature.
"Oi, cripple. How’s it now? Shall we continue?"
