Chapter 565

If only the Aberrants had a little sense right now.

They would have run away the moment they laid eyes on Layla.

But nope.

The fools wanted a fight. Instead...

Layla’s face twisted into a sinister grin, like a demoness who had just been offered a sacrifice to bring about destruction.

And destruction she brought.

Because the next moment, chaos ensued.

Dozens of Aberrants descended upon her, making sure she was surrounded on all sides, leaving her with no room to escape.

Did she need to escape?

No.

Instead, her shadowy wings flapped with furious beats as dozens of claws rocketed towards her.

Yet, she didn’t even look fazed.

A second later, chains erupted from her wings, shooting forward with their tips sharpened to such an extent that they resembled needles.

The chains moved too quickly for the Aberrants to react in time.

And within a moment, a flash...

Six Aberrants were impaled through their chests. With a twist of her hands, Layla dragged the chains around their bodies, tearing through flesh and splitting them apart.

One thing about the Aberrants was that when their opponents were weak, they could grow stronger through the injuries they sustained.

But with great strength came swift defeat for the creatures.

Layla didn’t give them a chance for their passive trait to kick in. Her chains ripped through them, tearing their bodies apart as blood spilled into the air.

Drones panned around the Aberrants, trying to capture what was happening.

But what the viewers saw made their blood run cold.

The chains had turned the creatures into unrecognisable masses of flesh.

Layla’s eyes flickered around the area, her lips curling upwards as the shadows stretched across the battlefield, aided by how closely the Aberrants had surrounded her.

Without hesitation, she suddenly vanished into the shadows just as a fist smashed into the space she had occupied a moment earlier.

The air rattled from the force of the blow.

Then, that same Aberrant felt something roll down its back.

It tried to twist its head around, only to see a shadow sword splitting its neck open.

Its head fell to the ground.

Layla vanished again, reappearing in the midst of the Aberrants with shadow chains in her grasp. She spun them around herself before swinging them in every direction like a maniac.

Although the chains were made from shadows, they carried real weight, moving as though they were genuine beast weapons.

Under Layla’s fluid control, the chains struck their targets with frightening precision.

An Aberrant swung its foot towards her back, only for Layla to turn around and intercept the attack with a shadow spear.

BOOM—!

The ground shattered beneath the creature’s leg as its foot collided with Layla’s spear.

Maintaining that same grin, she pushed the leg away before blinking in front of the creature. The spear shifted back into a scythe, which she brought down on its neck.

Layla spun around the Aberrant as its head slid from its neck, blood splattering across her face.

She merely licked the blood off her skin and beckoned for more opponents to come forward.

And they did.

A punch rocketed towards her abdomen, but Layla whirled her body around before bringing her shadow scythe down onto the arm, pinning it beneath her weapon’s weight.

She then swung her hand to the side.

A chain connected to the scythe blurred through the air and coiled around the neck of another Aberrant.

Clapping her hands together, Layla tightened the shadow chain with bone-shattering force.

The Aberrant’s eyes widened in pain as the chain constricted around its neck, making it feel as though its head was about to burst from the strain.

The Aberrant whose hand had been pierced by the scythe tried to move, but Layla shook her head.

"You move, he dies."

Whirling around like a tsunami, shadows wrapped around her hands like a drill. She swung them down, smashing them into the foot of another Aberrant that had attempted to sneak up behind her.

BANG! BOOOM!

The ground exploded beneath their feet as the shadow drills spinning around Layla’s hands bored into the creatures’ feet, tearing through flesh and causing blood to gush out.

The Aberrant could feel its heart pumping faster, energy coursing through its body as its passive trait began taking effect.

That was when Layla swung its leg back down with all her might.

The drill transformed back into a scythe connected to a shadow chain, which she immediately hauled forward.

The scythe blurred through the air before coiling around the Aberrant’s neck.

The creature had been disoriented for a moment, distracted by the surge of power rising within its body.

But Layla wasn’t about to give it the chance to make use of that power.

With a firm tug of her hands, she pulled the Aberrant towards her with all her might.

She dragged it several feet closer, bringing it within reach of a shadow spear that materialised before its chest. The weapon pierced straight through its rocky armour, bypassing the protection as though it were nothing.

The creature’s eyes widened as the spear found its heart and tore through it before emerging from the other side.

POP!

"Oh?!"

Layla turned her head slightly, glancing at the Aberrant whose neck had been wrapped in her shadow chains.

Its head had suddenly separated from its body under the tremendous force of the chains tightening around it.

And it hadn’t even been her doing.

The creature impaled by the scythe had moved, refusing to remain in one spot, and its sudden movement had caused the chain around the other Aberrant’s neck to tighten with enough force to sever its head.

Layla’s eyes gleamed with excitement.

Dragging her hand backwards, she pulled the scythe embedded in the creature’s hand. The blade tore deeper through its flesh, ripping the entire arm away with it.

"Wonderful. Wonderful. Wonderful. More! More! Cry for mama!" Layla cackled as the Aberrant howled in tremendous pain.

She swung her hands wildly, sending shadow chains whipping through the air and bashing into the creatures’ heads.

Other chains crashed through the earth before being dragged upwards, tearing through the Aberrants’ bodies and destroying the organs in their path.

The Shadow ability.

An ability found exclusively within the Larson family’s pool of ancestral abilities.

Each member of the Larson family could awaken an ability from either of the two pools they had inherited.

Crystals or Shadows.

Layla had inherited the Shadow ability, and she had cultivated skills that allowed her to create tangible weapons from her power to aid her in battle.

But that wasn’t all.

She could also make her weapons and projectiles intangible, rendering them formless like the shadows they were made from. In that state, they could bypass whatever armour an opponent wore as though it were nothing, before solidifying inside their target’s body.

A total menace, feared wherever she went.

Heck, the entire Larson family was feared because they were the only outliers in the world of Meta-humans.

They were the only Metas with two pools of abilities to choose from, while everybody else—including the Big Four—was destined to awaken and could only learn one specific ability within their family’s pool.

And right here, right now, Layla was beginning to display the madness and power the Larsons possessed in front of millions of viewers.

Even the Aberrants’ Big Five were watching.

And yet, despite how impressive her performance was, most eyes remained fixed on another battle taking place dozens of metres away.

Ray’s fight against the Three-Spined Aberrant.
