My Tribrid System: More than a Monster
Chapter 565: Have a Taste of Mama?
Chapter 563
Running across the ground like a snake in the grass, a trail of shadows snaked through the battlefield.
It passed Felix at such speed that he flinched, instinctively turning to look at it.
He hadn’t been able to hear what the two siblings had been discussing. The rain distorted the sounds around him, while the explosions erupting across the battlefield had grown louder than before, making it difficult for him to eavesdrop despite his attempts to concentrate on their conversation.
However, he had been paying close attention to the two siblings and had witnessed Layla dissolve into the shadows.
And now, she was rushing forward.
The moment the trail of shadows passed him, Felix suddenly felt himself regaining control of his body. His muscles responded again, and his bodily functions returned to normal as the strange force that had held him in place released its grip.
Kai gritted his teeth, watching the shadows race across the battlefield as he tried to determine who his sister would save first.
But there was no time to wait.
Caster abruptly jumped to the side as a massive foot came crashing down beside him, narrowly avoiding being crushed beneath it.
Kai didn’t waste another second. He pushed himself upright and dashed towards the Legacy, determined to rejoin the fight.
The moment Felix regained control of his body, his eyes swept across the battlefield. It took only a brief glance for him to spot Chloe in danger.
She was about to be sliced in two by an Aberrant’s claw.
Without thinking twice, the werewolf’s legs bulged tremendously as he gathered his strength before launching himself forward. The ground beneath his feet cratered from the sheer force of his leap, leaving behind the spot where he had stood only a moment earlier.
Felix shot through the air, rain hammering against his body as he crossed the distance in a flash.
He skidded to a halt in front of a stunned Chloe, who could only watch helplessly as the approaching claws closed in on her. There was no time left to dodge, and no way for her to escape their path.
At that moment, Felix’s claws blurred forward, colliding with the Aberrant’s claws with tremendous force.
The impact was enough to shatter the rooftop beneath them.
CRACK!
The structure gave way, and the three of them plunged through the collapsing roof as chunks of concrete and debris fell around them.
Felix reacted immediately, kicking forward while wrapping one arm around Chloe’s waist. He twisted his body in midair, adjusting their position as they fell.
His feet struck the ground first, allowing him to absorb the impact before landing securely with Chloe in his arms. Rubble continued raining down around them, with several pieces striking the werewolf’s back.
Even then, he kept Chloe shielded against him, making sure not a single piece of debris fell on her.
"You are safe," he whispered.
...
Shadows pooled beneath the feet of about four Aberrants. All four were bleeding profusely, yet none had fallen, and they continued surrounding Trisha from every direction.
The Ice Queen was on her knees, blood running from multiple injuries across her body.
Her lips were busted, her forehead split open, and she had sustained several broken bones alongside internal injuries. Despite the pain and the condition she was in, she stubbornly remained determined to continue fighting.
But just as the Aberrants swung their fists down towards the girl, the shadows beneath them rippled outward like a disturbed body of water.
A figure emerged from the darkness.
Layla leapt out of the shadows with a pair of shadow blades held firmly in her hands. Her body was soaked from the relentless rain as she flashed towards the Aberrants, who were far too committed to their attacks to pull back in time.
That was their fatal mistake.
With a resounding CLANG, Layla deflected their claws to the side, redirecting the incoming strikes before they could reach Trisha.
Her black eyes flashed with a hint of madness as a pair of shadowy wings formed on her back, carrying her into the air.
Kicking off the air from side to side, Layla rocketed towards the stunned creatures.
One of the Aberrants regained its composure faster than the others.
Its claw swept through the air towards Layla.
With a crazy twist of her body, Layla watched as the claw sped past her. Then, twisting her wrist, she sent her shadow blade plunging straight into the creature’s eye.
Kicking off the air beside her, she spun around and swung her hand upwards from below. Her second blade transformed into a shadow spear, ripping through the underarm of another creature.
Blood splattered through the air as a wide grin spread across the girl’s face.
With a maniacal cackle, she spread her hands wide. Shadow chains erupted from her wings and immediately wrapped around the necks of two Aberrants.
Layla spun her body, tightening the chains and lifting both creatures off their feet before slamming them into the earth with a booming impact.
BOOM!
The ground split apart beneath them.
Trisha blinked at the scene, her eyes struggling to believe what she was witnessing.
Before she could process what had just happened, one of the Aberrants uprooted a metal pole and hurled it towards Layla with astounding speed.
Layla didn’t dodge or move an inch.
She watched the approaching pole with the same sinister grin plastered across her face, seemingly unconcerned by the incoming attack.
At the last moment, one of her shadowy wings swung in front of her.
It snapped into place like a shield, absorbing the impact of the metal pole and drastically reducing its momentum.
Layla shrugged one hand downwards, causing her second wing to fall from her back and spread across the ground.
The metal pole sank into the shadowy wing blocking its path before bursting out of the shadow beneath the ground. Carrying the momentum it had retained, it ripped straight through the creature’s foot.
A fist came crashing towards Layla’s face.
She casually tilted her head to the side, allowing the massive fist to speed past her.
But before the Aberrant could pull its arm back, Layla seized it with a firm grip, a sinister grin spreading across her face.
Her body armour glowed with a deep darkness for a brief moment, and strength surged through her veins as she brought the creature’s arm crashing down onto her knee.
CRACK! CRACK! CRACK!
Her knee pierced through the arm like a spear through flesh, shattering bone as blood splattered through the air.
Still gripping the ruined arm, Layla dragged the Aberrant towards her.
Her fist shot forward like a bullet, smashing into the creature’s face and twisting its head violently to the side.
A delayed shockwave erupted outward the moment her fist connected.
BOOOOM!
The clamorous bang echoed across the battlefield, bringing the fighting to a halt for a brief moment as every eye, with the sole exception of Raze’s, turned towards her.
The Aberrants stared at the lone figure hovering in the air.
Layla was grinning like a madwoman.
Then, the Aberrant she had punched dropped to its knees, blood pouring from its injuries.
It continued gushing out without stopping.
Layla raised her bloodstained knuckles towards her face and licked the blood from them, a gleam of excitement shining in her eyes.
"Come on, I know you want to have a taste of mama," she beckoned.
