My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered

Chapter 234: You’re still burning

The absolute silence of the unraveled realm was almost heavy, settling over the shattered void like a thick, weightless blanket. Where six thousand years of divine decree had once weighed down on every living soul, there was now only a vast, open expanse beneath a sky painted in deep amethyst twilight and shimmering silver dust. The grand court, the ivory thrones, and the golden monolith were all gone, reduced to fine ash that drifted lazily through the lingering cosmic breeze.

The air itself smelled entirely different now. The sterile, metallic tang of enforced order and pressurized law had evaporated, replaced by the rich, heavy scent of raw, unshaped mana, ozone, and the faint, sweet perfume of night-blooming lotus that seemed to bleed from the open void. Microscopic specks of black-gold light—residual embers of Vince’s unwritten laws—floated through the space like silent fireflies, casting warm, fleeting reflections across the polished, mirror-like obsidian of the surviving dais floor.

Vince stood near the edge of the floating dais stump, his black coat still carrying the faint scent of crushed crystal and ozone. The dark fabric hung heavy against his broad shoulders, its tailored trim accentuating the sharp, powerful contour of his back and the dense, fluid muscle coiled along his spine. The pressure in his chest from maintaining his Inward Absolute Domain slowly dissipated, leaving behind a deep, simmering warmth—a surge of residual power that hummed beneath his skin like an untamed pulse. His skin flushed with a radiant, golden undertone, every nerve ending alive with the lingering thrum of absolute victory. Beneath his open collar, his chest rose and fell in slow, deliberate breaths, the solid muscle beneath his shirt taut and vibrating with suppressed heat.

Behind him, soft footsteps echoed against the smooth marble remnant.

Barnaby didn’t hover this time. She walked slowly, her bare feet making almost no sound against the cool obsidian. Her translucent dress swirled around her ankles like silver mist, catching the faint glow of the stars above. The silk clung breathlessly to her form, outlining the delicate curve of her hips, the narrow sweep of her waist, and the full, heavy arch of her chest with tantalizing clarity. With every step she took, the pale, alabaster skin of her bare thighs peeked through the slit of her gown, glowing with a soft, ethereal luminescence that seemed to draw all ambient light toward her. Her long, pale hair fell in loose, shimmering waves over her delicate shoulders, framing the flush rising on her cheeks and the deep, intoxicating warmth kindling within her golden eyes.

When she stopped beside him, her eyes weren’t fixed on the ruined horizon; they were fixed entirely on his profile, drinking in the imposing silhouette of the mortal who had just brought down the cosmos.

"You’re still burning," Barnaby murmured, her voice carrying a sultry, quiet weight that cut through the cool air.

"The domain takes a moment to settle," Vince replied calmly, without turning his head. "Severing an entire hierarchy leaves a lot of loose energy in the atmosphere."

"It’s not just the atmosphere, Vince," she said softly, taking a step closer until her chest brushed lightly against his arm. The supple softness of her body pressed against his rigid frame, sending a sharp, pleasant contrast through them both. She reached up, her long, delicate fingers—slender, soft, and tipped with pale, rosy nails—tracing the sharp, defined line of his jawline, lingering over the corner of his lips. Her skin was warm—far warmer than usual—and a faint, intoxicating heat emanated from her body, carrying a scent like vanilla and crushed nectar. "I can feel your core vibrating from here. You just rewrote reality, shattered six gods, and didn’t even break a sweat. Do you have any idea how... overwhelming that presence is?"

Vince turned his gaze down toward her. His amethyst eyes, still lingering with dark velvet light, met her golden ones. He looked over the flush on her chest, the way her breath hitched, and the subtle, rhythmic pulse beating at the base of her throat.

"Is the former spectator getting flustered?" he asked, a faint, dark smirk touching the edge of his lips.

Barnaby let out a low, breathless laugh that sounded more like a purr, the sound vibrating softly against his ribs. Her fingers slid down from his jaw, trailing over his collarbone and pressing gently against the center of his chest, right over the beating pulse beneath his dark shirt. She could feel the heavy, rhythmic thud of his heart—a powerful, driving rhythm that seemed to echo the fundamental pulse of the newly rewritten universe. Her own core thrummed in response, her breath shortening as the heat radiating from his skin soaked through the fabric of her dress.

"Spectating gets boring after a while," she whispered, leaning up on her tiptoes. Her breath hovered inches from his lips, warm, sweet, and trembling with anticipation. "And right now, the air in this dead court is far too cold... while you’re far too warm."

She slid her hands around his neck, her soft palms resting against the warm nape of his neck, pulling herself flush against his chest. Her golden eyes flared with a deep, uninhibited desire, casting aside every bit of her usual teasing detachment as her soft curves molded completely against the hard, unyielding lines of his body.

"No more laws," Barnaby whispered against his mouth, her voice dropping into a deep, inviting murmur. "No more Sovereigns. Just us... before we go back."

Vince’s hand moved instinctively, his long, calloused fingers closing firmly around the narrow curve of her waist and pulling her body completely against his. The lingering spatial energy around them flickered in response to his intent, weaving a dark, private veil of velvet shadow around the remnants of the dais, shutting out the rest of the cosmos as he brought his lips down onto hers. Her breath hitched softly in her throat as his grip tightened, her fingers knotting into the dark silk of his hair while reality faded into absolute, breathtaking heat around them.
