My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 72: That Idiot Shannon Shelby Wants to Come After Me
Chapter 72: Chapter 72: That Idiot Shannon Shelby Wants to Come After Me
Shannon Shelby’s heart leaped. ’They know? How could they have guessed?!’
’No, I haven’t seen a doctor, and I haven’t told anyone about this. They couldn’t possibly have found out!’
The stinging pain in her palm brought Shannon Shelby back to her senses. She looked down at the wound on her palm, which she had squeezed until it bled. Her previously flustered expression instantly calmed.
"Officers, you say I have a dual personality? May I ask what evidence you have? Did I tell you that myself, or do you have a certificate from a professional doctor? Please show me some proof.
If you have neither of those, are you just slapping a label on me?" Shannon Shelby’s voice was methodical, and every sentence hit its mark.
Zoe Sawyer stood by the window, watching and nervously biting her nails.
It was true. Everything they had was just speculation; they had no definitive proof.
"Don’t worry, Evan Keller is experienced. This kind of situation was well within our expectations." Heath Hale noticed Zoe Sawyer’s anxious habit, patted her on the head, and told her not to worry too much.
Anything Shannon Shelby could think of, they had naturally thought of as well, and they already had a counter-strategy. There was no need to be overly concerned.
"These photos of yours, and the things inside your pillow, mattress, even your comforter—we found them all." Evan Keller brandished several other photos, which showed items recovered from Shannon Shelby’s dorm room.
A smile tugged at Shannon Shelby’s lips. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Evan Keller continue, "Guess how we knew? And how we were able to so precisely retrieve all these items?
Do you remember your roommate, Lily Golding? The truth is, she discovered this long ago. She’s the one who tipped us off about all of it."
Hearing this, Shannon Shelby’s expression twisted in an instant.
’She knew?’
’If she knew all along and didn’t reject my advances, then that means she agreed to be with me!’
’If that’s the case, why was she so intimate with other women? Why did she even let one lie in her bed?’
’A place where I haven’t even had the right to lie openly...’
The more Shannon Shelby thought about it, the angrier she became, and the more her face contorted.
"That damn bitch! If she knew, why didn’t she say anything? Why did she keep playing innocent? Why didn’t she respond to me!" The angrier Shannon Shelby got, the more she wanted to stand up and rush out, but the chair restrained her, thwarting her attempt.
"Why should she respond to you? She’s heterosexual. Why should she respond to you? Even if you’re a man, you’re still walking around in a woman’s body." Evan Keller tapped the table, his tone dismissive. "Besides, what have you done?
You used your position as a ’friend’ to monopolize her, and you stopped her from making other friends. Do you know why our colleagues went over there? It was all because of the things you did.
From start to finish, you’ve brought her nothing but trouble. Not a single benefit, not a single contribution. Only a fool would respond to you."
"What do you mean, nothing! To be with her forever, I even killed Shannon’s boyf—"
Just as the final word was about to escape her lips, Shannon Shelby seemed to catch herself. She snapped her mouth shut, sat up straight again, and lowered her head, prepared to say nothing more.
Evan Keller tapped his fingers lightly on the tabletop. "Finally couldn’t hold it in and confessed, huh? That knife wound on your palm is the evidence, isn’t it?
You didn’t think that just because the pond is so dirty and messy, we wouldn’t be able to get a match even if we found the murder weapon, did you? As luck would have it, there were still some bloodstains left on the hilt. Care to guess if your fingerprints are on it?
All I have to do is have someone compare the wound on your palm with the victim’s wounds to see if they were made by the same knife, and the truth will come out, won’t it?"
Shannon Shelby opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but no words came out.
By the window, Zoe Sawyer had listened to Evan Keller’s entire speech. She looked nervously at Heath Hale beside her. "Aren’t you not supposed to entrap a confession during an interrogation? Isn’t what Evan Keller is doing a violation?"
"Entrapment is when interrogators use improper means or methods to induce a suspect or witness to give a false testimony or confession. What Evan Keller is doing doesn’t count as that," Heath Hale explained simply.
Before coming in, they already suspected Shannon Shelby was the killer, so they chose to provoke her with their words.
They had been prepared for a long haul, but they never expected her to react so strongly just from hearing about Lily Golding’s attitude and blurt everything out.
He hadn’t expected this kind of unexpected windfall either.
In the interrogation room, Shannon Shelby seemed to realize she couldn’t escape. Dejectedly, she recounted everything.
The host personality was indeed the female, Shannon Shelby. In middle school, her happy family fell apart. Her parents each found new loves, and both considered her a burden. They left her alone in the old house, just giving her enough money each month to ensure she wouldn’t starve.
When her family situation became known, she started getting bullied in middle school. A desperate Shannon Shelby wished for an older brother to protect her, and it was under these circumstances that the male personality, Simon Shelby, was born.
The male personality was fierce and aggressive. After beating down his bullies several times, his notoriety spread throughout the middle school, and no one dared to bully them again.
Because of this, Shannon Shelby grew very dependent on him. Whenever she was tired and didn’t want to "come out," she would hand over control of the body to Simon Shelby.
Gradually, Simon Shelby’s control over the body surpassed Shannon Shelby’s. Often, he could even forcefully suppress her and take over.
The real conflict began to erupt when she was in graduate school.
Shannon Shelby got a boyfriend and wanted more control of their time so she could go on dates. Simon Shelby, however, had set his sights on their roommate, Lily Golding, and wanted to use the natural advantages of a female body to monopolize all of her attention.
He used various means to drive away Lily Golding’s suitors, preparing to use the "boiling the frog" method to slowly draw her into his embrace.
"Then why did you kill him?" Evan Keller frowned in confusion upon hearing this.
From Simon Shelby’s account, the two of them depended on each other and had a very good relationship.
The current conflict was merely about the uneven distribution of time and the inability to properly balance both their needs. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ
’It shouldn’t have escalated to the point of murder.’
Hearing Evan Keller’s question, a smile touched the corners of Simon Shelby’s lips. The smile grew wider and wider, until he finally couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
"Why? Why did I go after that stupid man? It’s all because that idiot Shannon Shelby wanted to see a doctor and take medicine to suppress me!
She even wanted to snuff me out! She was the one who brought me into being, and now that she doesn’t need me anymore, she wants me to disappear? In her dreams!"
