My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 71: Shannon Shelby’s Dual Personality
Chapter 71: Chapter 71: Shannon Shelby’s Dual Personality
Zoe Sawyer’s voice, full of anger, rang out from nearby.
Heath Hale and Evan Keller exchanged a glance and walked over.
When they saw what was laid out on the table, they couldn’t help but frown.
The most striking item was a thick stack of photos, all of them featuring Lily Golding.
Photos of her eating, studying, walking, talking with others, and even changing her clothes.
"These were all found under the bed of that student, Shannon Shelby. They were kept in a spot where they could be easily retrieved.
And according to the colleagues who did the search, judging by how loose the bed slats are, it seems they were taken out every day." Officer Lee couldn’t help but gasp when he said this.
’Is this really a roommate?!’
’With these angles, these photos... I’d believe it if someone said they were taken by some peeping-tom stalker!’
"Lily was so sure she wasn’t a lesbian, but Shannon’s feelings for her boyfriend seemed genuine, too. She was crying so heartbrokenly," Zoe Sawyer said, baffled by the photos.
But these photos...
Zoe couldn’t come up with any defense. ’Were they candid shots she was planning to sell for money?’
Heath Hale flipped through them one by one, his expression calm and composed.
"Listen to this." Officer Lee said, handing a phone to Zoe. "This was also found in Shannon Shelby’s bedding. It wasn’t locked, and there’s only one app on it, with a bunch of audio files uploaded."
If it were a normal phone, there’d be no need to hide it in her bedding. Taking it out every day would be a hassle.
Shannon Shelby went to such great lengths to hide it, so there must be something on it she didn’t want anyone to see.
With that in mind, Officer Lee and his colleagues had listened to some of them before Zoe and the others arrived.
The result: hundreds of audio files, all just the sound of breathing.
Some were mixed with a bit of sleep-talking, but none of it made any sense.
Zoe played one of the files Officer Lee mentioned that had sleep-talking. Her face turned ugly the moment she heard the voice inside.
"This is Lily’s voice. She was saving recordings of Lily’s breathing and sleep-talking.
So, she planted a listening device under Lily’s bed just to listen to her breathe?" At this, Zoe couldn’t help but hug her arms. ’What kind of freak is this?!’
’This is so disgusting!’
The contents of the box next to them were much simpler.
It was just some of Lily Golding’s underwear and a few shirt dresses.
These were also hidden in the mattress, the blankets, or inside the pillow.
If the meticulous Vivian Dunn hadn’t felt something was off with the pillow during the search, they might not have even discovered what was inside it.
"We can confirm one thing now. This Shannon Shelby has some unusual feelings for Lily Golding, and those feelings are very twisted," Evan Keller said assertively, pointing at the items on the table.
This wasn’t something a normal person would do.
"Is there anything else?" Heath Hale asked, looking at the officers who had conducted the search.
"We didn’t find anything unusual around Lily Golding’s bed. The spot where Zoe said she found the listening device is empty now; it was probably removed beforehand.
But what’s strange is that Shannon Shelby has two sets of bedding, and both show signs of frequent use." As she said this, a flicker of doubt crossed Vivian Dunn’s face. ’Even if she’s a clean freak, she wouldn’t need to change them every single day, right?’
’And would a real clean freak hide someone else’s underwear in her pillow? That doesn’t seem right!’
An idea flashed through Zoe Sawyer’s mind. She slapped the table and then voiced her theory, "Evan, do you think it’s possible that Shannon Shelby has a split personality?"
When she was in school, there was a classmate with the same condition.
When the switching was frequent, you could even see them change three or four times in less than ten minutes.
So, connecting this with all of Shannon Shelby’s bizarre behavior, Zoe felt the possibility was growing more and more likely.
Zoe sucked in a sharp breath. ’If that’s really the case, then everything would make sense.’
"Shannon Shelby’s main personality is a normal girl who’s dating her boyfriend. The other, unknown personality is a pervert? Or maybe... it’s a man!" The more Zoe spoke, the smoother her words became, and she laid out her entire theory. "Although her body is female, her mind and her identity are that of a man. He sees Lily as his property, which explains his overly possessive behavior.
And since she still looks like a woman, if he got a little handsy with an unsuspecting Lily, it could be passed off as friends just messing around. He could also use this to push everyone else away, leaving Lily with only her as a friend!"
Judging from the current situation, it seemed this male personality had been quite successful.
Since they had met, whenever Lily Golding talked about her life on campus, it was only ever about her studies, Shannon Shelby, and that "female ghost" who had suddenly appeared.
Evan Keller picked up the photos from the table and said, "In that case, let’s just go verify it."
Just as they were stepping out of the office, a thought suddenly occurred to Heath Hale.
’Could it be that the boyfriend... was also killed by Shannon Shelby’s suspected male personality?’
That line she had screamed at Lily Golding during her breakdown: "took him away from me."
Who was taken away?
The boyfriend’s life, or this male personality?
Heath Hale hurried forward, said a few words to Evan Keller, and once again reminded him about the wound on Shannon Shelby’s palm.
Evan Keller nodded, indicating he understood.
Soon, the large group arrived at the door of the interrogation room.
Except for Evan Keller and Vivian Dunn, who went inside, the rest of them crowded around the window, wanting to hear what was going on.
"Officer, you’ve kept us locked in here for so long. Have you found something? Did you catch the person who murdered my boyfriend?!" When Shannon Shelby saw Evan Keller enter with something in his hands, her heart leaped, and she quickly asked.
Having heard what Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale said earlier, Evan Keller didn’t speak immediately. Instead, he sized up Shannon Shelby, who was sitting in the interrogation chair.
Although her tone was still grief-stricken, there wasn’t a trace of sadness in her eyes, a stark contrast to how she had been sobbing beside her boyfriend’s body that afternoon.
"Alright, you can drop the act. He wasn’t your boyfriend," Evan Keller said, sitting down and tossing the photos onto the table.
Shannon Shelby’s brow twitched. "I don’t understand what you’re saying. What do you mean he wasn’t my boyfriend?"
Evan Keller brandished the photos in his hand.
"Then can you explain what’s going on with these candid photos you took?
If you can’t explain, how about you let your other personality come out and tell us what’s going on?"
