My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 52: The Child Who Fiercely Pulled the Human Trafficker’s Arm
Chapter 52: Chapter 52: The Child Who Fiercely Pulled the Human Trafficker’s Arm
The man with the whip felt his heart leap. ’Could the cops have found us?’
’No, impossible!’
They wore masks and helmets when they took the kids, and they constantly changed their route.
’To find us using surveillance footage would take half a day, at least!’
’It hasn’t even been three hours since it happened. There’s no way they could be this fast!’
Still, to be safe, it would be better to have Third Brother take the dogs out for a look.
"Evan, as soon as those dogs come out, we need to take them down immediately!" Sean Hughes said, a cold glint in his eyes.
Tibetan Mastiffs were extremely protective of their owners and naturally ferocious. There had been many cases of them injuring people.
If they weren’t put down quickly, they would surely become a major obstacle during the arrest.
Besides, a Tibetan Mastiff only recognizes one master in its lifetime and couldn’t be tamed.
Therefore, from any angle, killing the mastiffs at the first opportunity was the right call.
"I know." Evan Keller didn’t object. He made a few hand signals to the officers behind him, telling everyone to get ready.
The moment the dogs appeared, they were to be shot on sight.
Soon, the courtyard gate was opened from the inside.
The few Tibetan Mastiffs at the front couldn’t help but charge forward.
The scent of strangers outside was overwhelming! It gave them the sense that their territory was being invaded.
They had to get out there and tear them to shreds!
In an instant, the first dog shot out.
Hiding on either side of the gate, Evan Keller and his men narrowed their eyes, aimed, and fired.
With a muffled THUD, the mastiff that had been dragging Third Brother forward yelped and collapsed.
Blood pooled beneath it.
The smell of blood spurred the other mastiffs to charge forward relentlessly.
"Shit! Someone’s waiting outside! Come back! Get back here!" Third Brother sensed something was wrong and yanked on the leashes, trying to pull the mastiffs back.
But his voice was drowned out by the barking.
He wasn’t as strong as the mastiffs, and they dragged him right outside.
The boss, standing behind them, frowned. ’What the hell is going on?!’
But he tightened his grip on the whip and began to edge back behind the iron cage.
’If someone really does rush in, I can use this cage as a shield.’
’I can just grab a kid to use as a hostage!’
Meanwhile, inside the iron cage, a little girl was crouched in a corner, her eyes darting around. She would peek outside one moment, then steal a glance at the boss the next.
When he wasn’t looking, she inched her way forward.
Outside the gate, Evan Keller’s team shot down each dog as it appeared, showing no mercy.
The instant Third Brother was pulled out, two young officers behind Evan Keller lunged forward, pinning the man to the ground and quickly subduing him.
From his position, the boss saw the whole scene unfold and couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.
’No!’
’It really is the cops!’
’How did they get here so fast?!’
Looking at the whip in his hand, then at the guns in the hands of Evan Keller and his men, the boss gritted his teeth, squatted down, and prepared to grab a child from the cage to use as a hostage.
The moment his hand reached in, a girl grabbed it and yanked it back with all her might.
Seeing this, some of the other crying children inside wiped their tears and ran over to help pull.
The sudden increase in force yanked the boss toward the cage, and his face slammed hard against the bars with a loud SMACK.
"You... you little brats! Let go!" The boss’s face was pressed against the cage, the bars leaving two distinct red marks as he was squeezed even harder against them.
The intense pain made the boss cry out in agony. He braced his whip hand against the cage, trying to use his strength to resist the united effort of the children.
Evan Keller and the others rushed in and subdued the man in a matter of seconds.
"Good kids, good kids, we’re here now. You can let go," Sean Hughes said, crouching in front of the cage and soothing the children inside.
He reached in and gently pried their hands open.
The little girl who had first grabbed the boss’s hand looked at the uniforms on Evan Keller and his team, then at their arm patches. Only after confirming they were real did she let go.
Except for the officers restraining the boss and Third Brother, the rest each took a child, quickly lifting the dozen or so kids huddled inside out of the cage.
Once they were sure they were safe, the group of children finally let loose, their cries heartbreakingly wretched.
The few female officers among them were immediately surrounded by a crowd of children, all reaching out for hugs.
Evan Keller squatted down to face the only little girl who wasn’t crying. His tone was warm. "You’re very calm, little one. That was a clever move just now, using your numbers to control the trafficker.
And if I’m not mistaken, you recognized the patches on our arms, didn’t you?"
The little girl rubbed her nose, then put her hands on her hips, full of pride. "Of course! My mom has a patch like that on her uniform! I’ve seen it my whole life, so of course I’d recognize it."
But when she mentioned her mother, a flicker of sadness crossed her eyes before she quickly hid it.
Evan Keller noticed that fleeting emotion. Instead of commenting on it, he just patted her little head. "That’s great! How about we take you all back now?"
’Your parents must be worried sick!’
The little girl wrinkled her nose, glanced at the boss and Third Brother being held on the ground, and then gestured for Evan Keller to lean in.
She then leaned close and whispered, "One of them got away. I think he said something about finding someone to move us!
He also said something like, ’good material,’ and ’they’ll definitely like it.’"
She had missed some parts of the conversation, so she could only tell Evan Keller the gist of what she knew.
Perhaps because they didn’t see the children as a threat, or maybe they thought there was no escape, the three traffickers hadn’t bothered to hide their discussion.
The little girl, who had been carefully observing her surroundings, had overheard their conversation.
"That’s very helpful. You’ve been a big help!" Evan Keller patted the little girl’s head, then arranged for his men to carry the boss and Third Brother back through the gate.
The rest of the officers carried the children back.
Of course, they made sure to cover the children’s eyes on the way.
The fewer people who knew about Zoe Sawyer’s ability, the better. Children weren’t good at keeping secrets and could easily be tricked into revealing things.
So, covering their eyes was the best course of action.
Zoe Sawyer, who had been anxious the whole time, knew the situation was resolved the moment she saw the group approaching, some carrying criminals, others carrying children.
"You can relax now," Heath Hale said, patting Zoe Sawyer’s shoulder and guiding her to sit down.
Evan Keller and his team quickly settled the children into a vacant office.
"What’s your next move?"
