My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 389: You Seem to Have a Big Problem with Our Decision
Chapter 389: Chapter 389: You Seem to Have a Big Problem with Our Decision
Hearing that answer, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale stiffened.
’Could it be... something happened after all?’
Aunt Crowe paused as well, then shot to her feet and hurried upstairs.
’She had to quickly confirm Aaron Crowe’s condition. If he was really dead, then her plan would have to change.’
With the exception of Mrs. Crowe, the rest of the Crowes scrambled to follow, all wanting to check on Aaron Crowe.
"Wendy, don’t go up. If something really has happened, seeing a scene like that will frighten you.
Just stay down here with your friends and wait." Before heading upstairs, Clark Crowe stopped Wendy Dawson, who had wanted to follow.
’He wasn’t sure if Aaron Crowe was dead or just not awake yet, but just in case, it was better for Wendy not to see.’
Clark Crowe’s intentions were good. After he spoke, he glanced at Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale, who had already stood up. He gestured with his eyes for them to come hold Wendy Dawson back, then quickly ran upstairs.
Zoe Sawyer stepped forward and put an arm around Wendy Dawson’s shoulders. She then heard Wendy whisper to her about what had happened the previous night.
"I don’t remember which room I was in last night, and I have no idea what they did. I’m so panicked right now." As she spoke, Wendy Dawson’s voice trembled.
’This feeling of helpless panic from not knowing anything was just unbearable.’
It made her feel as if the Crowe Family could tear her apart and devour her at any moment.
"We have a rough idea of what’s going on with the Crowe Family, so don’t worry. We’ll keep you safe.
Don’t worry about what happened last night. You weren’t harmed. Relax, we’re here for you. We’ll absolutely protect you," Zoe Sawyer whispered reassuringly, though she only gave her a simple summary of what happened.
’It was better not to tell Wendy Dawson the details of what happened; she was afraid Wendy wouldn’t be able to handle it.’
Hearing Zoe Sawyer’s words, Wendy Dawson seemed to understand it wasn’t anything good. Although she wanted to find out what was happening, she ultimately suppressed her curiosity and nodded, indicating that she understood and knew what to do.
’Zoe was refusing to say more for her own good.’
’She had better not ask for now. She would find out the truth once everything was over.’
Just then, Aunt Crowe came stumbling down the stairs, her face deathly pale, as if she had seen something unbearable.
Following behind her were Evan Crowe and his parents. He and Second Uncle Crowe were supporting Second Aunt Crowe. The three of them looked unsteady on their feet, but their steps were firm enough that they didn’t stumble on the stairs.
Clark Crowe, who followed the four of them, wasn’t much better off, but his expression and gait were noticeably better than those ahead of him.
Seeing their expressions, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale had a bad feeling.
’Aaron Crowe was dead!’
’Or if not dead, his condition was absolutely terrible!’
Mrs. Crowe slowly took a sip of water, a faint, sweet smile on her face. "I told you so. You didn’t believe me and had to go see for yourselves."
Aunt Crowe stood by the sofa, taking a deep breath to compose herself before glaring at Mrs. Crowe. "Aaron Crowe is your son! Something’s happened to him, and you have the nerve to sit here eating and drinking!"
As she spoke, Aunt Crowe seemed to realize something, and her voice became exceptionally shrill. "Was it you? Did you do this? My brother only just passed away yesterday, and today you send his son to join him! You are a malicious, heartless woman!"
Evan Crowe and his parents also fixed their gazes on Mrs. Crowe, looking as if they would rush over and seize her the moment she confessed.
"How could you do this?" Second Uncle Crowe said angrily. "My brother treated you well for decades, how could you end his bloodline like this!
That boy Aaron hadn’t even married or had children yet. He didn’t leave behind a single heir! You’re the culprit behind all this. Don’t you feel the least bit guilty?" Second Uncle Crowe glared at Mrs. Crowe, his face a mask of righteous indignation.
Mrs. Crowe stood up. She looked at the Crowes glaring at her and gave them a provocative glance back. "What’s all the fuss? With one less person to split the inheritance with, shouldn’t you all be happier?
Who do you think you’re fooling with this act? Don’t think I don’t know what’s going on in your heads. You might be able to trick these outsiders, but in reality, you’ve all been wishing for his death for a long time.
Now that I’ve helped you get rid of a major thorn in your side, aren’t you thrilled?"
Her words hit a little too close to home, and their expressions stiffened, but they quickly masked their emotions.
"Aunt, that’s a heartless thing to say," Evan Crowe said. "Aaron was family, after all. How could we wish for his death?
We just feel terrible for him. To be crushed to death by gym equipment... he must have been in so much pain. Aunt, he was your son, and you don’t feel the slightest bit of pity for him.
And today was supposed to be Clark and his fiancée’s wedding day. Well, so much for that. The ceremony’s off. Everyone just go home, go home. There’s nothing more to say." Evan Crowe’s voice was filled with exasperation, as if he were deeply grieved and frustrated by what had happened.
After speaking, Evan Crowe ignored everyone else’s expressions and used the living room phone to call the butler, who was on standby outside, to tell him the ceremony was canceled.
’As for how to handle the aftermath, that was the butler’s problem. The Crowe Family paid him a large sum every year; dealing with unexpected problems was part of his job description.’
Clark Crowe looked at Wendy Dawson, who was being sheltered in Zoe Sawyer’s arms. Seeing her pale face, he suddenly regretted bringing her here.
’Wendy was such a kind person. Encountering something like this so suddenly was bound to affect her psychologically.’
’If he had known, he would have dealt with this bunch of people first, waited until he had completely inherited the Crowe family’s fortune, and only then brought her here for the ceremony.’
But it was too late for regrets now. He could only hope that since Wendy Dawson hadn’t seen the scene, she wouldn’t be too traumatized.
"Since someone has died, shouldn’t the first thing to do be to call the police? And from what you were saying, it sounds like something happened yesterday, too? That’s all the more reason to report it!" Zoe Sawyer said, staying in character as an ordinary person who had come to be a bridesmaid.
’An ordinary person’s first reaction to finding a dead body or encountering a murder case was to call the police.’
Zoe Sawyer had another important reason for saying this: she wanted to see how the Crowes intended to handle the two bodies.
This was the perfect opportunity to probe them.
Sure enough, upon hearing Zoe Sawyer’s question, all of the Crowes’ eyes landed on her. Their expressions were full of mocking amusement, as if they were looking at a joke.
Heath Hale, also staying in character, stepped forward at the right moment to block their stares.
"Miss Bridesmaid."
Evan Crowe slowly walked toward Zoe Sawyer, his voice laced with a hint of condescension and a probing curiosity.
"You seem to have... a big problem with our decision."
