My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 382: There’s Definitely a Problem with This Crowe Family
Chapter 382: Chapter 382: There’s Definitely a Problem with This Crowe Family
When Evan Keller returned to the office, he told everyone about the Chief’s plan.
Heath Hale let out a huge sigh of relief when he heard he could go along.
"Don’t worry," Zoe Sawyer said, trying to reassure them. "I’ll bring those special dresses. If there’s any danger, I can pull out a weapon at any time. Plus, Heath Hale is coming with me. Nothing will happen."
Simon Hughes and the others were still worried, but since the Chief had given the order, they had no choice but to accept it.
At least this mission seemed much safer than Zoe Sawyer’s last undercover assignment.
Once the decision was made, Zoe Sawyer called Wendy Dawson back. She glanced at Heath Hale standing beside her and, sticking to the plan, said in a bashful tone, "My boss said yes, but... my boyfriend’s worried and wants to come along. Is that okay?"
Wendy Dawson’s heart leaped. ’So another cop is coming too?’
’Perfect!’
"No problem!" Wendy Dawson said excitedly. Then, catching sight of Clark Crowe standing behind her out of the corner of her eye, she quickly added, "You’re in a relationship and you didn’t even tell me! Just you wait, I’m going to give you a piece of my mind when I see you!"
Clark Crowe stood nearby and listened to the entire conversation. Once he was sure nothing was out of the ordinary, he turned and walked away.
Wendy Dawson breathed a sigh of relief when she saw he was gone, but her body remained tense.
As the departure time neared, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale were also fully prepared.
The miniature door embroidered on their pockets would allow them to pull weapons from the office at a moment’s notice, ensuring their safety.
It would also allow them to completely avoid arousing the Crowe family’s suspicion.
Sure enough, when they met at the airport, Clark Crowe’s gaze swept over Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale from head to toe. He couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something of a cop’s demeanor about them.
But before they left, he had already checked the work addresses Wendy Dawson had given him for them, and they were legitimate.
’It must just be my imagination, then.’
Clark Crowe suppressed his doubts and greeted the pair. "Hello. I’m Wendy’s husband. You can just call me Clark."
He then took the suitcase from Wendy Dawson’s hands and draped an arm over her shoulder, his tone affectionate. "Wendy, why are you carrying the luggage? Here, give it to me. All you need to do is look pretty."
He couldn’t resist planting a kiss on the corner of Wendy Dawson’s mouth, the adoration in his eyes impossible to hide.
Wendy Dawson blushed and gave Clark Crowe a gentle push, chiding him playfully. "What are you doing? There are people watching!"
Even though she suspected her husband was up to no good, she had genuinely loved him for so many years. Wendy Dawson knew she couldn’t just detach herself from him all at once.
"Tsk. Is a pauper like him really worth your affection? Enough. Have some decency, you’re in public," a gaunt woman in a black dress said, standing nearby with her arms crossed. Her heavy gaze was fixed on the young couple.
Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale looked toward the voice and saw that the gaunt woman was dressed head-to-toe in black, right down to a black lace hat.
Six other people stood beside her, their expressions varied. But without exception, every one of them looked at Clark Crowe and Wendy Dawson with pure malice.
"Just what you’d expect from someone with no breeding. She has no sense of propriety, only knows how to seduce men."
"And our cousin, honestly. Always doing such embarrassing things. A complete waste of all the lessons our elders tried to teach him."
A man and a woman standing near the gaunt woman chimed in.
Wendy Dawson, who had just been feeling bashful, turned deathly pale. She pulled Clark Crowe’s arm from around her and said, "Your aunt is right. We should be more restrained."
Clark Crowe had been in a good mood, but his expression soured when she pulled his arm away. He turned back and glared at the gaunt woman. "We’re legally married! I just put my arm around her shoulder, it’s nothing to be ashamed of."
Despite his words, Clark Crowe obediently lowered his arm.
As Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale walked past him, they overheard him mutter, "Damn it. In a couple of days, I’ll kill every last one of you. Always meddling in everything... So fucking annoying!"
Clark Crowe’s eyes were fixed on the seven people walking ahead of him, and he paid no attention to Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale as they passed.
Wendy Dawson, at his side, didn’t quite hear what Clark Crowe said; she just assumed he disliked the seven people in front of them.
Still, she couldn’t help but reach out and take his hand, trying to comfort him with the gesture.
Zoe Sawyer’s expression remained unchanged, as if she’d heard nothing. Shielding her movement with her body, she quickly tapped a few times on the back of Heath’s hand.
’So, there really is something wrong with this Clark Crowe!’
"He seems to genuinely like Wendy Dawson, so it doesn’t look like a romance scam. But his malice toward the others is intense," Zoe Sawyer murmured, sharing her observation.
Heath Hale grunted softly in agreement.
He had noticed something more than Zoe had. It wasn’t just malice Clark Crowe felt for those people; it was murderous intent.
’He’d hidden it well, but I still saw it.’
’This trip is going to be anything but peaceful.’
’Still, they’d handle whatever came their way. As long as he was here, he could protect Zoe Sawyer and Wendy Dawson.’
Once on the plane, thanks to the Chief’s arrangements, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale were seated far from the Crowes and Wendy Dawson.
The two of them quietly discussed the next phase of their plan, and once they were sure nothing had been overlooked, they closed their eyes to rest.
There was undoubtedly a lot of trouble ahead; they needed to conserve their energy.
Twenty hours later, the group got off the plane and quickly boarded a car sent by the Crowe family.
When the vehicle pulled up in front of a manor, an excited smile spread across Aunt Crowe’s face. "We’re finally back. It’s the perfect opportunity for a pauper like you to see what the Crowe family’s true heritage looks like!
If you weren’t lucky enough to marry Clark, would you have ever had the chance to come to a place like this? You should be thanking your lucky stars!"
The other people in the car also wore proud smiles, their gazes toward Wendy Dawson, Zoe, and Heath filled with contempt, clearly agreeing with Aunt Crowe’s belittling remarks.
Although Clark Crowe’s face remained impassive, a flicker of agreement flashed in his eyes.
As he watched the manor grow ever closer, an obsessed look appeared on Clark Crowe’s face.
’Finally back.’
Clark Crowe couldn’t contain his excitement as he thought about what he was going to do over the next few days.
"Wendy, Wendy, once the ceremony is complete, we’ll never be separated again.
We’ll be the happiest couple in the Crowe family," Clark Crowe said, suddenly grabbing Wendy Dawson, who was sitting beside him. His tone was fanatical.
Aunt Crowe’s expression soured. She looked like she wanted to say something, but then she seemed to reconsider and forced herself to stay quiet.
Meanwhile, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale, who had been sitting silently in the corner, exchanged a look.
’There’s definitely something wrong with the Crowe family!’
