My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 379: All Blown Up
Chapter 379: Chapter 379: All Blown Up
As the person who’d followed Barry Quinn the longest, Monkey was very familiar with the heir’s appearance.
Now that he finally had an untraceable opportunity, there was no way he was going to miss it.
The words had barely left his mouth when Monkey and the others aimed at the nearby warehouse and fired off several rockets.
A moment later, a massive explosion erupted from the warehouse.
Barry Quinn stepped forward to shield Zoe Sawyer with his body, while Heath Hale covered her ears to protect them from the deafening blast.
After the explosion, the warehouse burst into a raging inferno. Guards who had been hiding nearby rushed out, each with a weapon in hand or tucked into their waistband.
The towering flames illuminated their pale faces.
One of the men’s voices trembled. "Did any of you see the enemy?"
The rocket was like it had come from nowhere. There was no trace of it before it slammed right into the warehouse.
His words were like lighting a fuse, and everyone’s attention snapped to the question at hand.
After this morning’s sneak attack, the defenses around the warehouse had been completely rearranged.
Every direction was being watched, except from underground.
Anyone trying to sneak in should have been spotted immediately.
But just now, the enemy had blown up the warehouse right under their noses.
"I didn’t see anyone over here. Where the hell is this rat hiding?"
"Nothing on my end either."
"I didn’t see a thing. When someone comes asking, what are we supposed to say? We have no proof of anything!"
Several others around chimed in, their voices tinged with urgency.
They really hadn’t seen a thing!
Just as the men were discussing which direction the rocket could have come from, another voice cut through the crowd.
It wasn’t loud, but the words spoken made everyone present fall silent and tremble.
"Shouldn’t the most important thing right now be that *he’s* in that warehouse? What we should be thinking about is how we’re going to survive."
The sole heir to this entire territory’s organization, perished in this little warehouse.
If they could catch the person who fired the rocket, there might be a sliver of hope for them.
But if they didn’t...
Then what awaited them would be a punishment worse than death.
"Then... then what do we do now?" another man asked, his voice shaking.
He wasn’t very bright and usually just followed the crowd.
But even he understood that if this wasn’t handled properly, he was a dead man.
He couldn’t figure out what to do, though, so he could only turn to his colleagues for help.
Besides, they were all in the same boat. He wasn’t worried about them trying to pull any tricks.
"We need to at least look like we’re trying! Go save him!" the man who’d pointed out their dire situation said again, forcing the words through clenched teeth.
"But... who knows if they’ll launch a second attack?" another man said hesitantly.
If they did, wouldn’t they be goners?
The men, who had just started to move, stopped again, hesitation clouding their faces.
’That’s right. If we go over there and there’s another volley, we’re dead meat, aren’t we?’
"We die if we go, we die if we don’t. Do you want a quick death, or do you want to be tortured to death?" the man at the front spoke again, then strode quickly toward the warehouse. "There’s no guarantee there will be a second volley, anyway."
With that, the others stopped hesitating and hurried to follow him.
Meanwhile, the situation at the warehouse had also attracted the attention of people in other areas.
Those who understood the warehouse’s importance turned pale, immediately abandoning their search mission and rushing over at full speed.
While they waited, Monkey and the others reloaded, preparing for the next volley.
Soon, the area around the warehouse was swarming with people.
Those trying to go in for the rescue were blocked by the massive fire. Left with no choice, they had to fight the fire first.
All the while, they prayed that the most important person inside was unharmed.
"That’s about enough, Monkey. Give them another one," Barry Quinn said, watching the number of people at the warehouse and making a silent calculation.
Aside from those who couldn’t leave their critical posts, pretty much everyone who could come had arrived.
’No need to wait any longer, then. Just hit them with another wave and send them all to hell.’
"Roger that!"
An excited grin spread across Monkey’s face as he aimed and fired again.
The team members behind him, not to be outdone, followed suit one by one, bombarding the area once more.
Most of those who had gone to fight the fire and attempt a rescue were killed. The lucky few who escaped death were thrown hard against the walls by the force of the blast, their fate unknown.
"This mission can be considered a complete success. Sawyer, you can close the door. The rest of you, get some proper rest." After the second round of explosions, their leader walked over, hands clasped behind his back, and gave his orders in a mild tone. "Due to the mission, Barry Quinn and Monkey will need to stay here for a while. It’s a good chance for them to recover from their injuries.
Sawyer, would you like to stay as well? You could wait for Barry Quinn and the others and go back together?"
At this point, the leader felt an itch, and the idea of poaching her resurfaced.
’This Sawyer’s abilities are just off the charts!’
Watching her work earlier had made him green with envy; he desperately wished he could keep her.
But he couldn’t. The higher-ups had made it clear: everything depended on Zoe Sawyer’s own wishes. He couldn’t force her to stay or make any choice for her.
Unfortunately, Zoe Sawyer once again refused the leader’s recruitment offer. She did, however, state that if they were truly in need, he could tell the chief, and she would come to help at a moment’s notice.
As for the mission, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale also signed an additional non-disclosure agreement.
After confirming there were no loose ends, Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale went through the door, returning to the office back at the police department.
「Meanwhile, in a lawless region abroad, a pot-bellied man in a luxurious mansion was enjoying the services of his attendants.」
The next second, the butler ran in, covered in a cold sweat, his voice trembling. "Boss, the Young Master is... gone..."
"What do you mean, ’the Young Master is gone’?" The man snapped his eyes open. His beady eyes stared sharply at the butler, his tone glacial.
The moment the man spoke, the surrounding attendants dropped to their knees, trembling with their heads bowed. They didn’t dare make a sound, terrified they would become the next target for his rage.
The butler’s voice shook, but he still recounted the entire incident from beginning to end.
After listening, the man was silent. Finally, he pulled out a gun and casually shot one of the attendants kneeling at his feet.
After venting some of his anger, he continued, "Investigate! Pull all the surveillance footage from the area! I want to see just who has the gall to touch my son on my territory!"
"Yes, sir!"
As a thorough search began in that region, back at the police department, Zoe Sawyer encountered a new problem of her own.
