Chapter 348: Chapter 348: Testimony

Fortunately, the residents who passed by the police station had seen Justin Rothwell’s behavior over the past few days, so they all knew what kind of person he was.

So even when he tried to stir things up, no one around him paid him any mind.

Justin Rothwell’s wife looked even more astonished, seemingly confused about what her husband was trying to pull.

’Didn’t we agree before we came here? Weren’t we supposed to focus all our energy on getting justice for our son, and maybe some compensation?’

’Why is he suddenly dragging the police into this?’

"Justin, you..." The woman tugged on her husband’s arm, but just as she was about to speak, he violently flung her away.

The force of the shove sent the unprepared woman stumbling to the ground.

If a passing policewoman hadn’t reacted quickly and caught her, the woman would have ended up on the ground.

"You actually pushed me? I endured all that painful medication and IVF just to give your family an heir! I could forgive you for not being grateful, but you actually pushed me?" The woman’s face was filled with disbelief.

From the day they married until now, Justin Rothwell had never laid a hand on her. In fact, to hide his own medical condition, he had always treated her very well.

But now that their child was gone, he was resorting to violence? Being treated this way so suddenly, the woman felt as if her whole world was collapsing.

"Shut up!" Listening to her incessant nagging, the nameless fire in Justin Rothwell’s heart burned hotter and hotter. Finally, ignoring Evan Keller standing before him and forgetting where he was, he turned and roared at his wife, "If it weren’t for your useless body, would I have only had one son by now?

Now you couldn’t even save our child! You’re useless! I regret ever marrying you!"

At these words, the woman stopped crying.

Wiping the tears from her face, she pushed away the policewoman who was steadying her and lunged at Justin Rothwell like a wild animal.

She raked five long scratches across his face while screaming curses at him.

Fueled by frayed nerves and the pain of losing her child, the woman’s attacks grew more and more vicious.

Kicking and screaming, hitting and cursing, she started blurting out all the plans Justin Rothwell had concocted at home.

Of course, Justin Rothwell wasn’t just going to stand there and take it. After the initial shock, he began to fight back.

As the couple traded blows, they also traded secrets, many of which came spilling out.

Justin Rothwell threw up his hands to block his wife’s scratching nails. "You crazy bitch! Divorce! We have to get a divorce! You couldn’t even watch our child, you lost me my son! You’re the one at fault, I’ll make sure you leave with nothing!"

Hearing this, the woman’s attacks became even more ferocious. "You want me to step aside so you can get a new wife? Dream on! You’re stuck with me for the rest of your life!

It was you who screwed around so much that you messed up your body! You had a low sperm count and couldn’t have children easily! For the sake of your reputation, I was the one who endured all the slander from outsiders.

Now that our child is gone, you think you can just kick me to the curb? In your dreams!"

The policewoman who had witnessed the entire scene wanted to step in and break up the fight, but Evan Keller stopped her.

An idea had come to him.

Although Faye Rowan claimed she had been forced by this family, and that the child she gave birth to had not only been taken from her but also murdered.

But too much time had passed. Plus, Faye Rowan hadn’t been able to report it to the police in time, nor had she been able to preserve any solid evidence.

Convicting the family of three would not be an easy task.

But now!

An opportunity had presented itself!

Evan Keller glanced up at the security camera in the corner of the courtyard. After confirming it was capturing everything Justin Rothwell and his wife were doing, he casually remarked, "Besides, your son wasn’t Justin Rothwell’s first child. Maybe he thinks his body has recovered and he can just have another one?"

Upon hearing Evan Keller’s words, the last thread of the woman’s sanity snapped.

"I knew it! You’re still thinking about that little bitch, aren’t you! You want her to have another kid for you?

Let me tell you something, Justin Rothwell! You forced her, and then you and your mother killed that baby and buried it in the yard! If she knew the truth, you’d be lucky if she didn’t kill you!" the woman shrieked, blurting out the deepest secret buried in her heart.

Justin Rothwell, who had been swept up in the heat of the moment, sobered up instantly when he heard her words.

He no longer cared about her scratching nails. He grabbed his wife and clamped a hand over her mouth. "I’m sorry, my wife is just so devastated about losing our child that she’s not thinking straight.

Please don’t pay her any mind. We have some things to take care of at home, so we’ll be leaving now."

Recording videos, stirring up public opinion—

All those thoughts had vanished from Justin Rothwell’s mind.

All he wanted now was to get home as quickly as possible and teach this loose-lipped woman a harsh lesson.

He could only pray silently that these police officers hadn’t taken her words to heart. Otherwise, his entire family was done for.

The woman, who had been about to say more, was suddenly silenced as if her spell had been interrupted.

The moment she remembered what she had just said, her face turned deathly pale.

She could only go along with Justin Rothwell, nodding her head repeatedly.

The couple turned and quickened their pace, wanting only to leave the area as fast as possible.

But they had only taken a few steps before the surrounding police officers, on Evan Keller’s command, blocked their path.

"Do you know how I knew your son wasn’t Justin Rothwell’s first child?" Evan Keller walked up to the couple and stared into their terrified eyes. "That ’human trafficker,’ Faye Rowan? She’s the girl you conspired with her parents to force to have your child."

Justin Rothwell and his wife turned deathly pale, swaying on their feet, unable to stand steady.

"Frankly, because so much time has passed, we didn’t have enough evidence. Our only option was to send a team to excavate the child’s remains for DNA testing. I never expected your little spat today would give me such a pleasant surprise." Evan Keller shook his head, then ordered the surrounding officers to separate the two and take them to different interrogation rooms.

Before Justin Rothwell was escorted into the interrogation room, Evan Keller didn’t forget the main reason he had come down in the first place. He bent over and removed the miniature camera attached to the top of the man’s shoe.

Then he dangled it in front of him. "If it weren’t for the glint of light off your camera, I never would have gotten that confession."

With that, Evan Keller didn’t give him a chance to speak, instead motioning for his colleagues to take them away.

When Evan Keller returned to the office, Zoe Sawyer, who had witnessed everything from the window, couldn’t help but speak up. "I never would have thought of a method like that to get them to talk. I was still worried about how we were going to find any evidence."

Even though she could see what had happened through the door, all the related physical evidence was long gone.

The child’s remains alone couldn’t serve as conclusive evidence.

But with one move, Evan Keller had managed to get a direct confession.

"Investigative psychology," Evan Keller said with a shrug. "If you want to learn, I can have Heath Hale teach you sometime."

Just then, there was a knock at the office door.

"Captain Keller, the autopsy report is in."
