My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 346: I Wish It Was Me Who Did It
Chapter 346: Chapter 346: I Wish It Was Me Who Did It
Just as Evan Keller had guessed, upon hearing that the child was dead, Faye Rowan’s previously lifeless expression suddenly became animated.
"You’re saying their child is dead?" A flicker of excitement flashed in Faye Rowan’s eyes, but it was overshadowed by a look of nostalgia and vindictive pleasure.
Sitting across from her, Evan Keller could clearly see the emotions in her eyes.
And because of this, Evan Keller was absolutely certain there was more to this story.
"Yes, the child is gone.
The child’s parents are now calling you a murderer. If you don’t want your sentence to be more severe, you’d better confess everything from beginning to end," Evan Keller said.
He wasn’t lying. While waiting for the prosecutor’s office and third-party personnel, that family of three hadn’t been idle.
After realizing they couldn’t extort anything from the police, they had set their sights on the captured Faye Rowan.
They claimed their child had died because of Faye Rowan. Not only did they want her sentenced to death, but they also demanded she compensate them for all their expenses from the pregnancy to the present, as well as for emotional distress and various other fees.
The final sum they demanded was staggering, reaching hundreds of thousands, if not over a million.
It left everyone who heard it completely dumbfounded.
Upon hearing this, Faye Rowan suddenly burst out laughing.
She laughed harder and harder, until she eventually collapsed onto the table.
Evan Keller said nothing, simply sitting there.
Several more minutes passed before Faye Rowan’s laughter finally subsided.
Faye Rowan wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, her tone turning bitter. "If only it really had been me. Then I could have avenged my child with my own hands!"
"Your child?" Evan Keller frowned, quickly flipping through the file he had on Faye Rowan. "Your records show no history of childbirth."
’Could she have given birth in some small, private clinic? No household registration, no birth certificate, which is why we couldn’t find any record?’
Faye Rowan didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she composed herself, and only after ensuring she was calm did she speak slowly. "That’s normal. I gave birth in the village. No one knew besides my parents and the family that forced me."
’The family that forced her?’
Evan Keller’s frown deepened. There was definitely more to this story.
He waited for a while, but she didn’t continue. Faye Rowan was already lost in her memories. 𝘧𝓇ℯℴ𝓂
"Tell me. What exactly happened?" Evan Keller tapped the table, pulling Faye Rowan’s attention back to him.
"What happened?" A flash of malice crossed Faye Rowan’s face. "What happened is that Justin Rothwell and his family got what they deserved! Their child’s death is retribution for their past sins!" She heavily emphasized the last part of her statement.
Seeing no change in Evan Keller’s expression, she pouted in dissatisfaction before continuing. "Justin Rothwell. He’s the one who forced me.
His wife is in poor health. Getting pregnant could have killed both her and the baby. But the family desperately wanted a child, so they set their sights on me."
As Faye Rowan spoke, the few people both inside and outside the interrogation room began to understand the full story.
Faye Rowan was born in a remote, impoverished mountain village. Her parents favored sons over daughters. After she finished middle school, they planned to marry her off to a butcher from the next village, but the Rothwells swooped in.
Although her family’s living conditions were poor, Faye Rowan was a true budding beauty.
Justin Rothwell’s family had taken notice of both Faye Rowan’s beauty and her family’s poverty.
With her parents’ tacit approval, and after paying them a sum of money, Justin Rothwell forced himself on Faye Rowan, who had just turned sixteen.
And it wasn’t just once. To ensure Faye Rowan became pregnant, the assaults were frequent.
To prevent Faye Rowan from escaping or screaming for help, she was locked in her room from the beginning of her ordeal until she gave birth. Her hands and feet were bound with iron chains, and her mouth was gagged.
At this point in her story, Faye Rowan pulled up her sleeves and pant legs, revealing the scars that remained to this day.
Faye Rowan carried the child for the full term, and the moment the baby was born, it was taken away and given to the Rothwell family.
Faye Rowan’s parents, who had clearly been warned by the Rothwells, locked her up again for another year after the child was born.
The chains were only removed after she feigned obedience, promising she would put the incident behind her, do as she was told, and marry whomever her parents chose for her.
But even then, the Rowans were still wary of her. Her every move was watched, she wasn’t allowed contact with any outsiders, and she had no phone.
Faye Rowan kept up her act of obedience for several months until she finally managed to indirectly glean some news about the Rothwell family from her parents.
Initially, Justin Rothwell, concerned for his wife’s health, had used illegal means to obtain a daughter for himself.
But over time, the family of three came to feel that a daughter wasn’t enough. She couldn’t carry on the family line; it would be better to have a son.
Just then, Justin Rothwell’s brother-in-law brought them news of a hospital that was supposedly very good at treating such conditions and asked if they wanted to check it out.
Unwilling to give up, the couple clung to this last shred of hope and made the trip.
This time, the couple returned smiling. The hospital had told them that Justin Rothwell’s wife’s condition wasn’t too severe and that they had a way for the couple to have their own child.
However, the process would be long, and they were told to be mentally prepared.
After returning, the family of three discussed it and decided to move there.
Upon hearing they could have their own biological child, Justin Rothwell and his wife no longer wanted the daughter.
As long as the child existed, she was a constant reminder of what they had done.
In the end, it was Old Mrs. Rothwell who, using some wicked method she’d heard of somewhere, led the three of them to drown the child. They then found a time to bury her in the yard.
They held the superstitious belief that by burying her where she would be stepped on daily, they would prevent female souls from being reincarnated into their family, thus guaranteeing their next child would be a boy.
Although the Rothwells thought they had been discreet, they were seen by some local idlers who were wandering around late at night.
Justin Rothwell paid them to keep quiet, but after the Rothwell family left, the story began to spread through the area anyway.
And so, Faye Rowan finally heard what had happened to her child.
During her time in captivity, aside from talking to herself, the only one Faye Rowan could confide in was the child in her womb.
So even though the baby was the child of her enemy, due to a combination of factors, Faye Rowan couldn’t help but care for and deeply love the child that had come from her own body.
The moment she heard that her daughter had been brutally murdered.
Faye Rowan’s hatred for the Rothwell family reached its absolute peak.
