My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 313: Will It Affect My Sister?
Chapter 313: Chapter 313: Will It Affect My Sister?
Hayden Shaw’s gaze was like a sharp knife, piercing straight into Hannah Thompson’s heart.
"I... If I knew, why would I be asking you!" Hannah Thompson’s heart skipped a beat. Catching sight of her mother standing to the side, she gritted her teeth, her tone firm.
Hayden Shaw’s gaze held a trace of disappointment, and her tone was much colder than before. "You should know, the police have many ways to test for drug use. Even if it was six months ago, and you only took a tiny bit, we can still detect it in a hair sample.
It’s fast, too. We can get results in ten to twenty minutes, and they’re highly accurate. Even knowing that, you still won’t admit it?"
Her aunt couldn’t sit still any longer. She stepped forward, placed her hands on her daughter’s shoulders, and shook them. "Did you really do it? Tell your cousin, quick! While there’s still time, you have to quit this stuff!"
Hannah Thompson kept her head down, staring at the floor, silent and sullen, not saying a word.
’Seeing her act like this, Hayden Shaw was fuming. She desperately wanted to go over, grab the damn girl by the ear, and torture a confession out of her.’
’But this was the police station, and she was a police officer. She couldn’t do that.’
No matter who asked, Hannah Thompson maintained a completely uncooperative attitude.
This shameless indifference made Hayden Shaw laugh in exasperation.
Just then, a junior officer hurried over with a report in hand.
He knocked on the door of the interview room and handed the report to Hayden Shaw.
"Captain Sawyer, please get Captain Keller for me. As a relative, I need to recuse myself from this case completely." Hayden Shaw stood up abruptly and called out to Zoe Sawyer, who was standing nearby.
When it was just a suspicion, she could still ask a few questions.
Now that it was confirmed, Hayden Shaw could no longer be involved in what came next.
Seeing Hayden Shaw stand up to leave, a flash of panic crossed the faces of her aunt and Hannah Thompson.
"Hayden, why are you leaving? Aren’t you going to handle what happens next?" Her aunt’s voice was laced with panic and anxiety.
Although she trusted the abilities of the other officers, she still felt more at ease with her niece present.
"Auntie, Hannah really has been using drugs. And from the way she’s acting, it’s obvious she knew what she was doing.
As a relative, I have to recuse myself. I can’t be involved in the rest of the case." Hayden Shaw handed the report to her aunt and walked out of the interview room.
Soon, Evan Keller arrived.
And the questioning location was no longer the interview room, but the interrogation room.
"Don’t worry, Auntie. Captain Keller is a professional. We’ll get to the bottom of what happened.
It’s good we found out early. We can get her to a rehabilitation center in time and help her quit as soon as possible.
Hannah’s situation isn’t too bad. Although she’s been using for a while, the dosage isn’t very high. As long as she cooperates, quitting should be relatively easy." Hayden Shaw gripped her aunt’s shoulders, her voice gentle as she comforted the terrified older woman beside her.
Her aunt reached out and grasped Hayden Shaw’s hand, murmuring to herself, "Yes, you’re right. We can’t let this drag on. We have to get it sorted out for her as soon as possible.
I can’t be soft on her. Being soft on her will only harm her!"
Hayden Shaw breathed a sigh of relief, seeing that her aunt had come to understand.
"We’ll go take a look. Hayden, you stay here with your aunt," Sean Hughes said, pointing toward the interrogation room.
Hayden Shaw gave them a gesture to show she understood.
Then, Zoe Sawyer and Sean Hughes headed toward the interrogation room.
When they arrived, they saw Evan Keller sitting with his arms crossed. Hannah Thompson’s face no longer held the stubborn defiance she had shown Hayden Shaw; instead, it was filled with a sense of grievance and panic.
"I want my cousin to question me, can I?" Hannah Thompson asked, cautiously looking up at Evan Keller’s cold face.
Evan Keller shook his head, denying her request. "No. You’re related, so she has to recuse herself to avoid a conflict of interest."
Hannah Thompson seemed to think of something. She looked at Evan Keller, then glanced outside, appearing as if she wanted to say something but held back.
"Are you worried about something? You can tell us. We’re the police; we definitely know more ways to handle things than a young girl like you.
Maybe something that’s troubling you is something we can help solve?" Evan Keller noticed the young girl’s expression and immediately understood there must be another reason for her silence.
’She’s still a minor, after all.’ Evan Keller’s tone softened, becoming more patient and earnest.
"If I used... this stuff, will it affect my cousin?" Hannah Thompson’s voice was quiet, but in the silent interrogation room, Evan Keller heard her loud and clear.
Hearing this, Evan Keller instantly understood what she was struggling with.
"No, it won’t. Don’t worry. We’re more concerned with your cousin’s performance and conduct on the job. Your actions won’t affect her.
Right now, you just need to tell me: did you know what you were taking, and who gave it to you?" Evan Keller continued to speak softly, reassuring the girl in front of him, while carefully watching her expression.
Sure enough, upon hearing that it wouldn’t affect her cousin, Hannah Thompson visibly relaxed, which made Evan Keller even more certain.
’Someone must have said something to her.’
After hearing there would be no repercussions for her cousin, Hannah Thompson’s expression eased considerably, but she kept her head down, twisting the corner of her clothes.
Evan Keller didn’t press her further, instead waiting quietly for her to speak on her own.
Sure enough, less than three minutes later, Hannah Thompson looked up and said, "I didn’t know at first. I only found out later. It was my good friend from class. She told me she had some diet pills imported from overseas that worked really well and asked if I wanted to try them."
Evan Keller sat up straighter. ’Here it comes.’
Once she started, it became much easier to continue.
Hannah Thompson continued, "I used to be really fat. You could barely find anyone in my entire grade who was fatter than me. Those kids would always make fun of me for my weight. They called me a pig, said I should be in a slaughterhouse instead of being their classmate.
After being mocked so much, I became desperate to lose weight. But I tried everything—exercise, dieting—and nothing worked.
My deskmate and I were about the same height and weight, but she suddenly took half a month off. When she came back, she was unbelievably thin.
I was the only fat person left in the class, so all the bullying and insults were directed at me."
One day, when she was obsessing over losing weight, her deskmate suddenly pulled her aside after school, saying she had a way to help her lose weight quickly.
Hannah Thompson’s eyes lit up. She glanced around, and after making sure no other students were nearby, she asked.
"What’s your way to help me lose weight fast?"
