Chapter 310: Chapter 310: What Reward Do You Want?

Everyone on site gasped. The materials could explode?

The employees who worked there glared at Boss York, who was still on the ground, a hint of hatred in their eyes.

’Why didn’t he tell us how dangerous this was from the beginning?’

The recently revived Boss York felt a fresh wave of despair upon hearing those two words. He hated himself for waking up just then.

’It would’ve been so much better if I’d stayed unconscious!’

"That’s right, it could explode. Nitrocellulose is highly flammable and explosive. We also did a quick inspection just now and found other chemicals mixed in with it inside the warehouse.

If it explodes, the consequences will be catastrophic," one of the experts said.

The other expert chimed in, "Based on our visual estimate, an explosion of the materials in this warehouse would be equivalent to detonating 15 tons of TNT."

The employee who had just volunteered to open the door for Captain Lynch and his team felt his legs go weak, and he collapsed to the ground.

As the surrounding officers turned to look at him, he asked in a trembling voice, "What if... what if when it explodes, there’s another, bigger warehouse nearby, just as packed with this stuff?"

The expert’s expression turned grim. "Then this warehouse would act as a detonator, setting off the other one.

Forget everything else—if the quantity were just doubled, this entire area would be inside the blast radius."

At that, the employee pointed to a nearby warehouse. "The one over there... it has at least five times as much as this one. It’s packed just as full."

The moment they heard this, the SWAT officers and the two experts broke into a run, heading in the direction the employee was pointing.

Meanwhile, Boss York tried to feign unconsciousness again, but a junior officer who had been keeping an eye on him noticed.

"Captain Lynch, he’s awake," the junior officer said to the captain beside him. His voice wasn’t loud, but everyone on site heard him.

Instantly, all eyes were on Boss York.

"Boss, why didn’t you tell us this stuff could explode?"

"Didn’t you say it was perfectly safe and that we had nothing to worry about?"

"How dare you hide this! If the police hadn’t found out, were you just going to keep it a secret forever?"

When they saw Boss York was awake, the employees who had been standing on the sidelines forgot the police were even there.

A crowd of them surged forward, hauled Boss York to his feet, and began shaking him violently by the collar.

They might not have understood the technical details, but they understood what the two experts had just said.

The stuff in this warehouse was on the verge of catching fire and could easily explode!

It was a given that their boss would be arrested, so the employees weren’t worried about losing their jobs anymore. All they could think about was beating him up.

Shaken until he was dizzy, Boss York felt himself starting to choke and couldn’t help but let out a few coughs.

In the chaos, a few slaps found their way to his face.

No force was held back. Several red handprints quickly appeared on Boss York’s cheeks.

Seeing this, Captain Lynch cleared his throat and snapped at his officers, "What are you standing around for? Break it up! What if they knock something over? Be careful, and make sure none of the civilians get hurt."

His officers took the hint. They moved forward, reaching out to separate the incensed warehouse employees.

However, while they all looked like they were trying their best, their hands were strangely gentle, and they didn’t actually manage to pull anyone apart.

Once the employees had let out most of their frustration, and the officers started to worry that something might actually happen to Boss York, they quickly pulled them apart.

Just then, the SWAT officers and experts returned, their faces grim.

"What’s the situation?" Captain Lynch stepped forward and asked.

"It’s more of the same, but the situation over there is worse. We need to deal with this shipment immediately. If we delay any longer, we’re going to have a real disaster on our hands," an expert said, his expression grave.

At that very moment, Director Garland’s voice came through Captain Lynch’s earpiece. "Captain Lynch, I’m giving you full authority on this. Use any means necessary, just get this resolved. Now.

If that shipment blows, the surrounding residential areas will be hit."

"Yes, sir! Understood," Captain Lynch replied. He took a deep breath, then turned to the two experts before him. "What’s the next step? Just tell us what to do. You’ll have our full cooperation."

Driven by the will to save their own skins and to help fix the mess, all the warehouse employees sprang into action.

They cleaned the warehouse, moved the excessively stockpiled hazardous chemicals, and worked to eliminate any chance of spontaneous combustion.

Everyone on site worked nonstop for nearly seven hours until all potential safety hazards were completely eliminated.

Meanwhile, back at the provincial bureau, Zoe Sawyer remained in her chair, her eyes glued to the video feed.

Only when the last container of hazardous chemicals was properly dealt with did the faint, persistent sense of crisis that had been nagging at her finally dissipate completely.

Zoe Sawyer let out a long, deep sigh of relief.

"It’s safe," Zoe Sawyer murmured.

Beside her, Evan Keller and the others had been watching not only the video feed, but also Zoe Sawyer herself.

The moment they heard her say those two words, they all let out a heavy sigh of relief.

’It’s safe. Thank God it’s safe.’

Director Garland heard her too, but he didn’t say anything, waiting instead for official word from Captain Lynch’s team.

Though night had completely fallen, the warehouse was still illuminated by floodlights, as bright as day.

The two experts inspected all the containers one last time before finally announcing, "It’s safe!"

Everyone on site erupted in cheers.

Boss York, tied up and tossed in a corner, also breathed a sigh of relief. ’It’s safe, that’s good. It’s safe.’

’This way, my charges might be a little lighter.’

"Thank you both for your hard work. The department will handle the proper disposal of these materials from here," Captain Lynch said, walking over to the two experts and shaking their hands.

After seeing the experts off, Captain Lynch turned to the employees and Boss York, who was still huddled in the corner. "I’ll be filing a full report on your actions today. We’ll need all of you to come down to the station to give a statement.

As for you, Boss York, the court will be the one to determine the extent of your crimes."

In stark contrast to the employees’ relief at having survived the ordeal, Boss York’s face was a mask of utter despair.

Once he confirmed everything was truly alright, Director Garland ended the video call with Captain Lynch’s team. He turned to Zoe Sawyer. "Sawyer, you performed a great service this time.

I’ll be sure to report your contribution. Thank you for your hard work today."

Without Zoe Sawyer’s warning, a horrific explosion would have ripped through his jurisdiction tonight.

Losing his post would have been the least of his worries.

If they had truly lost over a hundred firefighters, Director Garland felt he would never have been able to live with himself.

Zoe Sawyer waved her hands dismissively. "Director Garland, you’re being too kind. The important thing is that the crisis was averted."

"What kind of reward would you like?"
