My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 309: Will Explode
Chapter 309: Chapter 309: Will Explode
The lead officer nodded as if in sudden understanding. Just as Boss York thought he had bluffed his way through and was about to change the subject by asking why they were here, he heard the same officer say, "Boss York, we’d like to take a look at Warehouse 10."
Boss York’s heart leaped into his throat.
’Is Warehouse 10 their target?’
’No, I can’t let them see it. If they find out, I’m really done for!’
Boss York was just about to refuse when the officer spoke again. "Boss York, I’m standing here talking to you nicely right now to give you a chance.
"If you refuse to cooperate, the people who show up next won’t be as pleasant as we are."
Boss York gritted his teeth in silence. ’A threat! This is a blatant threat!’
’But this also proves it—these cops know something!’
’This shipment of mine was kept strictly confidential from loading to unloading. Besides the guys stationed here, no one else knew about it.’
’Could it be... that there’s a traitor on my side?’
At this thought, suspicion flared up in Boss York’s mind. Now, every person passing by outside seemed suspicious to him!
But this wasn’t the time to worry about that. For Boss York, the most important thing right now was to deal with the police officers in front of him.
"Warehouse 10? Sure, no problem." Boss York stood in the guardhouse, laughing heartily. With his hands behind his back, he made a gesture to the two guards outside.
This was a signal he had trained his men on before. The moment he made this gesture, they were to quickly take people to the last two warehouses and make some "adjustments" to the contents inside.
’First, I have to bluff my way through this inspection.’
Due to the angle, the officers standing in front of Boss York saw the reflection of his hand movements in the guardhouse’s metal gate.
On the captain’s command, the officer closest to Boss York stepped forward, grabbed the hand that was frantically gesturing behind his back, and narrowed his eyes. "Quite the hobby you’ve got there, Boss York. I’m surprised you have the time to be practicing hand exercises."
The two guards, who were just about to leave, stopped in their tracks when they saw their boss’s wrist being grabbed.
The two exchanged a look, then tacitly raised their hands and stepped aside.
"A misunderstanding, a misunderstanding! I was just telling them to prepare some tea for you gentlemen." Boss York’s voice lacked conviction.
But he was a boss, after all. After his initial nervousness, he had already regained his composure and tried to fish for information. "Officers, I don’t recall it being time for a safety inspection. Why the sudden visit?"
Director Garland’s voice came through the earpiece. "Alright, stop wasting time. End this quickly."
"Understood!"
The lead officer pressed his earpiece to respond, then looked at Boss York, who was forcing a calm expression, and said, "Why are we here? Don’t you have any idea what you’re storing in that warehouse?"
Hearing this, Boss York’s mind was in turmoil.
’They really know?’
"I... but..." Boss York opened his mouth to explain, but for a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
’If there really is a mole who leaked the situation to the police, would sending people to cover it up even work?’
Boss York’s thoughts raced. He wanted to stall for more time, but after seeing their sharp gazes, he could only drag his heavy feet and lead the team of officers toward Warehouse 10.
No matter how much Boss York tried to stall, they still arrived in front of Warehouse 10.
As soon as they got there, Boss York saw his employees being held down, forced to squat to one side.
And at the warehouse entrance stood a team of fully armed SWAT officers, holding their weapons.
"You! This!"
Boss York’s face fell. He looked at the police officers beside him, then at the SWAT team ahead.
’So there were two teams!’
"Captain Lynch, when we arrived, this group was getting ready to move the things inside.
"Per Director Garland’s instructions, we have the men under control," one of the SWAT officers said, stepping forward to address the police officer beside Boss York.
Captain Lynch nodded to the SWAT officer who had just spoken. "Good work. What’s the situation inside? Has anyone gone in to check?"
The SWAT officer shook his head. "No. Director Garland said the specialists are on their way and told us to stand guard outside.
"Besides this Warehouse 10, there’s another, larger, unrecorded warehouse that our guys are also guarding. We’ve made sure no one can slip inside."
As he spoke, the SWAT officer pointed to the side.
Boss York, who had still been clinging to a sliver of hope, followed the direction the SWAT officer was pointing. His eyes rolled back into his head, and he fainted on the spot.
’It’s over. This time, it’s really over.’
’If I could have just hidden it for one more day, I could have found someone to ship these two batches out.’
’By then, I would’ve had the money, and the danger would’ve been dealt with.’
’But I never expected the police to show up right when I was on the verge of success!’
’And the other warehouse was discovered too.’ ℯℯ𝘭.
’Is heaven itself trying to destroy me?’
In the last second before he passed out, a vicious thought flashed through Boss York’s mind. ’When I find out who ratted me out, I’ll make that mole pay!’
Soon, the two experts arrived at the warehouse, escorted by another team of police officers.
The employees, who had been making all sorts of excuses and refusing to open the door earlier, had now quieted down.
When Captain Lynch looked over, a man who was clearly the leader among the employees trotted out, a fawning smile on his face. "Officer, I’m familiar with the situation inside the warehouse. I’ll take you in."
After speaking, under everyone’s gaze, he pushed open the large doors of the warehouse.
Soon, a warehouse packed to the brim with countless boxes was revealed to everyone.
"This is nitrocellulose... and there’s far too much of it. Plus, a section on the southern side looks overly dry." The two experts quickly identified the contents of the boxes.
Accompanied by an employee who knew the layout, the two experts briefly inspected the situation in both warehouses, after which their expressions turned exceptionally grim.
"What’s the situation?" Captain Lynch asked, a bad feeling rising in his chest as he saw their grim faces.
"Very bad!"
One of them spoke bluntly, "They’re stored in excessive quantities, and a significant portion of the nitrocellulose has lost its wetting agent, causing localized dry spots. The temperature inside the warehouse is also much higher than outside due to the sealed environment.
"If this isn’t handled immediately, the consequences will be extremely serious."
Captain Lynch was about to speak when Director Garland’s voice came through his earpiece. "Ask them what would happen if this warehouse were to accidentally catch fire."
Captain Lynch relayed Director Garland’s question.
Upon hearing the question, the experts’ expressions grew even uglier.
"It would explode."
