My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 301: Pursuit
Chapter 301: Chapter 301: Pursuit
Beau stared intently at the magnified view of the northwest corner. A woman stood there, completely disguised.
She wore a mask, hat, and sunglasses, and was partially hidden behind a tree, staring motionlessly in the direction of Sean Vance and Gavin Keller.
"She just got here. I doubt she’s spotted you. Hold your positions for now," Captain Taylor made the decision quickly.
’We’ll have the tech team track her in real-time with the cameras. We might uncover something new!’
Hearing Captain Taylor’s order, Cap Wright had to suppress his urge to move in and make the arrest. He continued to watch the two targets nearby.
"Where’s the stuff!" Sean Vance said anxiously, watching Gavin Keller approach and tugging at his mask.
Gavin Keller handed him a small backpack. "There’s a phone and a card inside. The phone has a number in it. When you get a chance to slip away, he’ll call to let you know, so be ready to move at a moment’s notice.
The card has money on it—your payment for this job."
After saying this, Gavin Keller turned and walked away without a backward glance.
Sean Vance took the backpack. With no time to check its contents, he clutched the bag and hurried off in the opposite direction.
His steps were frantic, as if something was chasing him.
The moment Gavin Keller departed, the woman in the northwest corner also turned to leave.
Captain Taylor, watching this on the surveillance feed, ordered a few officers near the northwest corner to tail her discreetly. "Be careful not to get spotted.
The second you get a chance, move in and bring her in."
Vivian Dunn, standing beside Evan Keller, relayed the conversation she had just witnessed.
"We can’t move on the other two yet, but we can take Sean Vance. Captain Keller, take a few men and grab him," Cap Wright said quietly to Evan Keller, who was beside him.
Evan Keller nodded, immediately accepting Cap Wright’s order. He took a few officers and hurried after Sean Vance.
Meanwhile, just as Gavin Keller reached the intersection, a woman’s voice came through his earpiece: "You’re being tailed. Turn left. Head into the crowd, away from me."
Gavin Keller, who had been walking at a relaxed pace, stiffened for a moment. He then pivoted and headed in the other direction as instructed.
"Cops? How do they know?" Gavin Keller’s voice was filled with bewilderment, but he didn’t break his stride, continuing toward the crowd.
"Sean Vance must have been exposed and tailed. This whole exchange was probably under surveillance," the mysterious woman replied without turning around. Her gaze locked onto the crowd ahead, and she quickened her pace.
The three officers tailing them frowned. After a quick hand signal, they split into two groups to continue the pursuit.
They watched as the two suspects weaved left and right, gradually melting into the crowd.
At times, they even deliberately caused minor disturbances, trying to hinder the officers’ pursuit.
If it weren’t for the tech team providing real-time locations from the surveillance feed, they probably would have lost the trail.
"Something’s not right," one of the officers tailing Gavin Keller said, a puzzled look on his face. "We were maintaining a perfect distance. How did they spot us?"
The moment Gavin Keller and the mysterious woman changed direction, the tech team pulled up all surrounding camera feeds, searching for a clue.
Soon, their attention zeroed in on a nearby pedestrian overpass.
A man in a similar disguise was standing on it, holding a pair of binoculars and looking toward the intersection. His mouth moved intermittently.
Every time he spoke, the mysterious woman would change direction and head for a denser part of the crowd.
"Found him! I can’t believe they have another accomplice!" a tech team member exclaimed excitedly after spotting the man on the overpass.
Captain Taylor decided not to wait any longer. He quickly issued an order to Cap Wright and the others still on standby: "Split into three teams! Get all three of them!"
"Yes, sir!"
Cap Wright acknowledged the order, then quickly gathered his officers and gave assignments. "I’ll take three people to the overpass. The rest of you, split into two teams and go after the other two. Bring them all in!"
After giving the orders, Cap Wright pressed his earpiece. "Is there a shortcut nearby we can use to get behind the guy on the overpass? He has binoculars, so taking the main route will definitely tip him off."
"Yes! Cap Wright, sending you the route now." The tech team member tapped a few keys, confirmed a route, and quickly relayed the directions to Cap Wright.
And just like that, the officers split into three teams and raced toward their respective targets.
Captain Taylor remembered Zoe Sawyer’s warning, and a flash of unease went through him. He added over the comms, "Everyone, be careful!"
Cap Wright knew what he meant. After a quick acknowledgment, he led his team and ran toward the overpass.
Zoe Sawyer sat in her office, staring at the computer screen beside her. The feeling of unease in her heart grew heavier.
’The vision said Joey would be strangled by someone hiding in the shadows. But all three suspects are under surveillance, and each of them is being pursued by several officers. None of them seem to be in a position to hide in the shadows.’
’Could there be a fourth person?’
’No, that’s not right. If I can think of it, Captain Taylor definitely can too.’
Zoe Sawyer’s hands, resting on her knees, tightened unconsciously. Her mind raced.
’Come on, brain, think! There must be a loophole I’m missing!’
Meanwhile, Joey was with Hayden Shaw’s group, pursuing Gavin Keller.
The group hurried to catch up with their colleagues ahead. They followed Gavin Keller as he weaved left and right, leading them into an increasingly remote area—an urban village.
The buildings here were packed tightly together. Laundry hung out to dry by the residents overhead blocked most of the sunlight in the narrow alleyways, casting the area in dim light.
Here, Gavin Keller was like a fish in water. He moved deftly through the alleys, turning sideways to squeeze through gaps, occasionally ducking into one opening and emerging from another.
Here, the surveillance signal grew weak and intermittent, making real-time tracking and reporting impossible.
Gradually, using his familiarity with the terrain, Gavin Keller managed to shake most of his pursuers.
Only Joey and a female officer, thanks to their agility, managed to barely keep pace.
Gavin Keller scanned his surroundings, his eyes finally landing on a thick hemp rope coiled in a corner.
Seeing that only two people were still on his tail, an idea quickly formed in his mind.
He dashed over, grabbed the rope, and ducked back into a corner, readying himself.
A look of excitement spread across his face.
Joey and the female officer reached the area and looked around, but there was no sign of Gavin Keller.
"I’ll check this way, you go that way. If you find anything, let me know immediately," the female officer said to Joey, gesturing as she quickly laid out the plan.
