My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 291: I Just Have a Little Quirk
Chapter 291: Chapter 291: I Just Have a Little Quirk
Heath Hale’s expression also turned serious. Just as he was about to speak, a young officer ran over and said, "Coach Hale, Captain Keller brought back the body and a person. They’re in the interrogation room now, and he told me to come get you."
’The victim’s body has been found?’
Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale exchanged a glance, then followed the young officer, walking quickly toward the interrogation room.
Inside the interrogation room, Leo sat across from Evan Keller. He looked guilty and nervous, wringing his hands and occasionally stealing glances at the two officers opposite him.
He had the classic look of a man bursting with secrets.
Evan Keller didn’t speak either. The two sides just stared at each other. After a standoff of several minutes, Leo finally broke.
"Um, Officer, if I tell you everything I know, can I make up for what I did?
If I tell you everything, can you agree not to press charges against me?" Leo asked, his expression hesitant.
Evan Keller rapped the table. "But if you cooperate with the investigation, we can consider a lighter sentence, depending on the severity of your crime.
But if you refuse to cooperate, then once the case is closed, you’ll be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law."
The color drained from Leo’s face. He bit his lower lip and finally mumbled, "I... I have this... little quirk. I like to spy on my tenants’ lives."
"Louder! You like what?!" Evan Keller slammed his fist on the table.
Leo squeezed his eyes shut and yelled, "I said I like to spy on people’s lives! I secretly installed a pinhole camera in Yvie’s living room!"
He shouted so loudly that Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale, who had just arrived, jumped in surprise.
After yelling this out, all the energy seemed to drain out of Leo.
"Don’t you know that peeping and secret filming are illegal?" Evan Keller’s expression was grim.
Leo slumped in his chair, muttering to himself, "I really just watched. I didn’t save it, I didn’t share it, and I never told anyone about it."
Evan Keller remained silent, letting Leo vent for a while. Once he saw Leo’s expression calm down a bit, he spoke again. "Now, can you tell us what you know about this case?
The victim’s parents have been looking for their daughter for days. Now that there’s finally a lead, are you really going to keep hiding things?"
Leo looked like he wanted to speak but hesitated. Finally, under Evan Keller’s stern gaze, he told them everything he saw. "I saw a former tenant suddenly climb in from the balcony. Then she set up a phone in the corner of the living room, put on a wig and a coat, and acted out a scene with the woman who came over to feed the pet."
Evan Keller quickly seized on a few key phrases. "A former tenant? Acted out a scene?"
"Yes, the one who climbed in was a former tenant of ours. At first, I thought she really killed someone. But then, I heard them talking on the balcony, saying something like, ’If the padding hadn’t been thick enough, I would’ve really gotten stabbed.’" Leo’s voice trembled.
After spying on people’s lives for so long, this was the first time he’d ever encountered something like this.
When he actually saw the person fall, he almost called the police!
Just as his finger was about to press the dial button, he heard their discussion and realized it was all fake.
’It’s a good thing it was fake, though. My place almost became a murder house!’
He thought everything was fine after that. Plus, he’d been scared, so Leo got some money from Old Man Thorne and went out to have some fun for a few days.
As soon as he got back, he ran into the situation on the roof.
Evan Keller’s brow furrowed. He quickly started connecting the dots.
’No wonder they couldn’t find a body. No wonder there wasn’t a single drop of blood downstairs. So the whole time, it was just two people cooperating.’
’No wonder there were no knife wounds on the body’s back. They had prepared protective gear from the start!’
Evan Keller’s mind raced, trying to piece everything together.
Just then, Heath Hale knocked on the interrogation room door and told Evan Keller what Zoe Sawyer had seen earlier.
Once they combined the two pieces of information, they had pretty much figured out the whole situation.
"Now we just have to wait for Hayden Shaw to bring her in. Once she’s here, the whole truth will come out," Evan Keller said, gripping his notebook, his voice filled with urgency.
Although he didn’t understand why this group of people was targeting Yvonne Wayne, with Leo as an eyewitness and the secret video he had, proving her innocence wouldn’t be difficult.
At this thought, Evan Keller looked at the nervous Leo and asked, "Those videos you secretly filmed... you haven’t deleted them, have you?"
"No, no, I haven’t!" Leo said hastily. "I didn’t delete the footage from that day! I was afraid there might be trouble later, so I didn’t dare touch it. I kept all of it."
"Alright. Can I have someone go to your house and copy the video now? And can you guarantee you only installed cameras in the living room?" Evan Keller stared at Leo, his tone serious.
Leo nodded frantically. "Yes, yes! I can guarantee it! It’s only in the living room. I wouldn’t dare put one in the bedroom or bathroom. If I got caught with cameras there, I’d definitely go to jail!"
"Alright then. And what about that tenant? What do you remember about her?" Evan Keller nodded and moved on to another question.
At this, Leo suddenly sat bolt upright. "That freezer you found the body in—it belonged to that tenant, the one who climbed in!
That’s why I was so shocked when I saw her!"
’She hadn’t been heard from for months, but then she suddenly shows up and puts on a show like that.’
’There was no way something shady wasn’t going on; he refused to believe otherwise!’
’But he was also afraid of getting himself into trouble. And since no one really died, he just kept his mouth shut.’
’Who would’ve thought something would actually happen!’
"If you saw her again, could you identify her?" Evan Keller asked, looking at Leo.
"Yes!" Leo nodded frantically. ’In this situation, I’d have to say yes even if it was no!’
Evan Keller closed his notebook and stood up under Leo’s nervous gaze. "Alright, I’ve asked everything I need to. You just sit here and rest for a bit."
Seeing Evan Keller about to leave, Leo quickly called out to him, his voice full of apprehension, "So... what’s going to happen with my... secret filming?"
"If it was just simple voyeurism, and the video wasn’t distributed, then it’s administrative detention plus a fine.
If you can get the victim’s forgiveness later, the penalty will likely be even lighter," Evan Keller explained, recalling similar cases he had handled before.
’He didn’t distribute it for profit, nor did he install cameras in highly private places like the bathroom or bedroom. The punishment really won’t be that severe.’
Leo’s expression was hesitant. ’Get Yvie’s forgiveness?’
’Am I sure I won’t get beaten to death?’
Just then, there was a knock on the interrogation room door.
"Captain Keller, the suspect has been brought in."
