My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 221: A Full Confession
Chapter 221: Chapter 221: A Full Confession
Perhaps because they felt the software was secure, with its self-deleting messages, the chat content was very direct.
They were all asking fellow group members if there was any "good merchandise" lately and asking for a chance, offering a small fee for the trouble.
There were over thirty videos in total, and almost every video represented a single transaction.
From newborn infants to teenage girls.
Anyone could become a target.
And the three newest targets were also very clear: Murphy Lynch, Linda Pierce, and Wallace Donovan.
May Lynch had already negotiated the price and was just waiting to bring them over in a couple of days.
But she never expected the police to find her so quickly.
The evidence was conclusive. Even if May Lynch wanted to deny it, she couldn’t. She lowered her head, her gaze fixed blankly on the tabletop.
She never imagined that the videos she had wanted to keep as leverage would actually become the evidence that led to her arrest.
"How long have you been in this line of work? Of the people in that group chat, how many of their locations do you roughly know?
And this group chat—what’s the deal with it? Tell me everything, down to the last detail." Captain Pierce stared at May Lynch, slamming his hand on the table with a stern expression.
May Lynch was silent for several minutes. Just as Captain Pierce was about to ask again, he finally heard her answer: "I’ve been watching them traffic people for several years now. These three were my first attempt.
It’s my first time doing something like this, and they haven’t suffered any actual harm. Can I get a lighter sentence?"
Captain Pierce tapped the table and said only one thing: "Confess and be treated with leniency; resist and face severity."
May Lynch was silent for a long time. Finally, as if she had given in, she told Captain Pierce everything she had done and everything she knew.
May Lynch came from a small town. She first learned about the software five years ago when her husband used it to chat with his mistress. Although she knew he was cheating, she didn’t have enough evidence to make him leave the marriage with nothing.
Later, she left that painful place, moved to another province, and started working at this factory.
Less than half a year into her new job, she heard from her parents that her ex-husband and his mistress had a son. The mistress would parade the baby around her parents’ neighborhood, constantly saying that the divorce was all because May Lynch couldn’t have children.
She’d say things like May Lynch’s family must have done so many wicked things that this was their karmic retribution. ℴℴ𝘮
Once or twice was fine, but over time, May Lynch’s parents couldn’t help but call their daughter to complain about it.
Depressed and frustrated, May Lynch downloaded the software. She stumbled into this chat room by chance and happened to see someone asking about children.
They wanted a boy, not long after birth. If the information was confirmed to be true, there would be a "gratitude fee" upon success.
Staring at the request, May Lynch posted her ex-husband’s family’s information.
A week later, May Lynch received a call from the police station, asking her to come in and cooperate with an investigation.
They asked about her recent movements and checked her financial transactions and call logs. Finding nothing unusual, they let her go.
After returning to her rented apartment, May Lynch learned that her ex-husband’s newborn son had been taken. They kept clamoring that it was retaliation from May Lynch’s family.
But after an investigation, May Lynch’s family’s whereabouts were found to be normal, with nothing suspicious.
When the child disappeared, her family members were all at work, and there were many witnesses.
Furthermore, there were no strange calls or transfers on their phones or in their accounts.
The commotion from her ex-husband’s family even forced the police to investigate all of May Lynch’s close friends and relatives, but they found nothing.
The police quickly ruled out May Lynch’s family as suspects. Although her ex-husband’s family was indignant, they couldn’t find any relevant evidence.
Later on, the mistress even came over and watched May Lynch for three months, but she didn’t find anything either.
If May Lynch hadn’t suddenly received a transfer on the software six months later, marked as a "gratitude fee," she would have forgotten the whole thing.
The amount was huge, more than May Lynch’s annual salary, and it came just in time to solve her urgent financial problems.
After this experience, May Lynch started paying close attention to the matter. She constantly monitored the group’s chats and recorded every one of their transactions.
Later on, she even suggested creating a WeChat group.
When May Lynch felt the time was right, she brought in her long-time friend, Ms. Sherman, and the two of them hit it off immediately.
After familiarizing themselves with the situations of some of the girls at the factory, the two of them finally set their sights on Murphy Lynch.
Since it was their first time, they spent over two years getting close to Murphy Lynch just to be safe.
Although Ms. Sherman had never actually met Murphy Lynch in person, they had been video chatting on their phones for two years.
Now that they felt the time was ripe and a buyer had been found, they decided they might as well abduct two more and send them all over together.
This one job, once finished, would be worth ten years of their hard work!
They were so close to success, but they never expected to be caught at such a critical moment.
After listening to May Lynch’s account, Captain Pierce tapped his desk and continued, "So what’s the deal with that QQ group of yours?"
"These days, parents pick up and drop off their kids, so it’s hard to get to them. We wanted to use this method to screen for suitable children to target." May Lynch knew which group Captain Pierce was asking about and gave a simple explanation.
Captain Pierce asked one last question: "If we hadn’t found out in time, where were you planning on sending the three of them?"
May Lynch fell silent, but under Captain Pierce’s stern gaze, she finally spoke: "Lynn was going to the mountains. After raising her for another two years, she’d be able to have children. The other two younger ones were to be sent to another province. The buyers would take them away from there, far, far away from here, never to return."
’What she didn’t say was that the buyers for the other two would probably take them out of the country after they got their hands on them.’
’The kids are still young. Even though they’re old enough to remember things, with enough patience and certain methods, those people have ways to make a child forget their original family.’
’There was no need to mention all that. What if it made my sentence even harsher...?’
After getting all the information he wanted, Captain Pierce closed his notebook, stood up, and looked at May Lynch. "I understand the specifics of the situation now. You should be grateful those kids are all still safe. Otherwise, your crimes would be far more severe!"
It wasn’t just about Murphy Lynch’s case; the children in all those other videos had to be found and brought back too.
After confirming there were no more loose ends, Captain Pierce had his team members watch May Lynch and turned to find his superior, the bureau chief.
This case was too big. Their precinct definitely didn’t have enough manpower.
The chief would have to be the one to make the call.
Meanwhile, when Ms. Sherman learned that May Lynch had confessed to everything, all the fight went out of her.
"Go ahead and ask. I’ll tell you whatever you want to know."
