Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Impotent Rage

’The deadline’s passed, and that cop, Evan Keller, hasn’t come back. Something must have happened to him!’

A flash of glee appeared in Dexter Bishop’s eyes at the thought of them kneeling and weeping before a pile of rubble.

’This is what they get for destroying the organization I worked so hard to build!’

’I’ll make this bunch of cops feel the same pain I did!’

Relishing the thought, Dexter Bishop closed his eyes, preparing to enjoy the tirade of abuse from Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale.

’The angrier they get, the happier I’ll be!’

But after waiting for a while without hearing any insults from Zoe Sawyer or her partner, Dexter Bishop opened his eyes in confusion. He found the two of them looking at him with a strange gaze.

It held mockery and anger, but none of the grief-stricken fury he had been anticipating.

A sudden, bad feeling crept over Dexter Bishop. ’Don’t tell me... my plan failed?!’

’No! Impossible!’

’Even if they found and dismantled the outer one, they couldn’t have had time to get to the one inside!’

’By the time they carried it out, it should have been blown to smithereens!’

The technology might not have been new, but Dexter Bishop had made sure to use high-quality materials. Its explosive power was guaranteed to be immense.

To ensure the plan was foolproof, he had even rigged it with an automatic trigger that couldn’t be stopped.

From start to finish, Dexter Bishop had never intended to stop the explosion.

"Sorry to disappoint you," Zoe Sawyer said, raising an eyebrow in a deliberately provocative tone. "Evan Keller has already taken the bomb for disposal. I’m sure it won’t be long before you see him walk right back in."

Dexter Bishop’s actions had endangered so many people, yet he showed no remorse, even repeatedly taunting them.

So, given the chance to get under his skin with words, Zoe Sawyer certainly wasn’t going to pull any punches.

Sure enough, Dexter Bishop, who had been clinging to a final shred of hope, slammed his fist on the table in a rage, his expression twisting into a ferocious snarl.

Heath Hale patted Zoe Sawyer’s shoulder, motioning for her to step outside with him.

The best thing to do now was to let Dexter Bishop stew.

Let him think, let him doubt, let him agonize on his own.

Without his ace in the hole, Dexter Bishop was no longer a threat. His only value now was to give up information on the boss he had mentioned.

"Aren’t we going to question him?" Zoe Sawyer asked.

"Of course we are, but not right now." Heath Hale smiled and explained, "Dexter Bishop is too agitated at the moment, still reeling from his failure.

Once he calms down, he’ll realize that confessing is his only option."

Giving him some time to cool off will also help wear down his will.

Besides, the station was swamped with work right now; they didn’t have time to waste on him.

Zoe Sawyer nodded, asking no further questions.

Nearly all of Dexter Bishop’s other subordinates had confessed everything they knew. Even Wyatt Ford, who had been tight-lipped at first, broke after learning that not only had Dexter Bishop been captured, but his backup plan had also failed.

As if his spirit had been completely broken, he spilled everything he knew, revealing many of Dexter Bishop’s secret bases and hideouts.

Heath Hale recorded the locations and handed the list to the chief, who would coordinate with colleagues in the relevant jurisdictions to raid all of Dexter Bishop’s sites.

"Coach Hale, a man named Pierce Miller wants to see you," Officer Lee said, knocking on Zoe Sawyer’s office door and glancing at his notepad.

Heath Hale nodded in acknowledgment.

Rather than sit around and wait, Zoe Sawyer decided to follow him.

She had thought Pierce Miller remembered something else to confess, but it turned out he just wanted to remind Heath Hale again to give the reward for his tip to his sister.

"Where’s Heath Hale? The two we caught earlier are awake, and Monkey got something big out of them," Barry Quinn said, walking over. Seeing only Zoe Sawyer standing outside the interrogation room, he asked curiously.

Before Zoe Sawyer could answer, Heath Hale came out of the interrogation room. "What did you get?"

"The good stuff!" Barry Quinn said, then led them off in another direction.

They had previously heard the suspects mention a "Big Sis," and they had been carrying guns. The organization behind them might be a real behemoth.

Heath Hale’s expression grew grim at the thought.

When the three of them arrived, they heard the young woman’s trembling voice. "We just call her Big Sis. Her business is mainly overseas. She sent us back this time to see what kind of secrets you’re all hiding."

Zoe Sawyer and Heath Hale’s hearts skipped a beat.

’Was the directive that specific?’

’Don’t tell me we exposed something on our end?’

’But on second thought... Ruby and her crew, the ones who had seen us in person, have already been captured. They’re scheduled for execution in two days.’

’Besides, she’s been under strict surveillance ever since she was brought in; there’s no way she could have passed on information.’

Before Zoe Sawyer could figure it out, she heard the girl’s voice again.

"A while back, Big Sis received several depositions and investigation reports from a Mr. Lynch. They said a sanatorium had been busted by the cops.

Big Sis noticed something off in those reports and depositions. She said there was a man named Frank Keller whose movements were suspicious—he had no exit record from the other country, but he had already returned here to Varden. She sent us to find out what was going on."

The girl’s expression was bitter. This was her first mission with a partner, and it was supposed to be a simple one at that—just install a listening device and gather intel.

She never expected to get caught.

The girl knew it too. Caught in possession of a firearm and as a suspected member of a terrorist organization, there was no escaping this time.

Heath Hale’s expression was incredibly complicated. He clearly remembered that after the sanatorium incident, the embassy had passed word that they had instructed the officials in the other country to forge an exit record for Frank Keller.

After all, Zoe Sawyer and her team had helped them out a great deal, so it wasn’t an unreasonable request.

The other party had even agreed without a moment’s hesitation, promising to get it done as soon as they returned.

Who would have thought that they would turn around and completely forget about it, allowing this organization to discover the discrepancy.

Zoe Sawyer breathed a huge sigh of relief, knowing now that her ability hadn’t been exposed.

Then, a flicker of doubt crossed Zoe’s face. "She confessed that easily?"

She was the complete opposite of Ruby and her crew.

"Probably a rookie," Barry Quinn said from behind them, watching the scene inside with his arms crossed.

He’d seen plenty like her on past missions—all of them greenhorns tagging along with a more experienced operative.

But they were lucky this time. The one they’d caught wasn’t so tight-lipped that she drove them crazy.

Monkey decided to strike while the iron was hot, immediately asking where they got their weapons.

If they were smuggled, they might be able to follow the trail and catch a lot more people.

If they came through legitimate channels, it would mean they had another stash house for their gear.

Either way, getting an answer would be a huge score!

At this thought, the eyes of everyone, both inside and outside the interrogation room, focused on the girl.

"Six gave them to us."
