Chapter 156: Chapter 156: The Arrest Begins

They couldn’t just let the provincial bureau do all the work.

After all, this was a Varden matter. They had to pull their own weight.

"Although Pierce Miller marked out a lot of addresses, to be on the safe side, the provincial bureau decided to have the East Varden police thoroughly check the other locations first," Heath Hale said.

As for Zoe Sawyer, for safety reasons, she couldn’t go with them. However, she could pick a spot, open a door, and wait for them.

If something unexpected happened, they would have a way out.

Zoe Sawyer, of course, didn’t refuse. After Evan Keller and Heath Hale arrived with their men, she opened the door, allowing them to join up with the provincial bureau’s team ahead.

Initially, Zoe Sawyer had wanted to open the door right inside the Miller Brothers’ room. That way, they could coordinate an attack from both inside and out, possibly capturing everyone in the building much faster. But Heath Hale vetoed the idea.

It was impossible to know if anyone was in the room. Rashly choosing that as their entry point was far too dangerous.

But thanks to their caution, they didn’t run right into the group of people standing inside the room.

"Still no word from Wyatt Ford?" Dexter Bishop stood in the Miller Brothers’ room with his hands clasped behind his back, his expression grim.

He had assumed Wyatt Ford went out to dispose of the body, but nearly two hours had passed and he still hadn’t returned. His phone was unreachable, too.

’Could something have happened to him?’

’Don’t tell me he got nabbed by the cops?’

’But that can’t be right. If he’d really been caught, things here wouldn’t be this quiet.’

Aside from Rudy Lane, who had gone out in Wyatt Ford’s place, the rest of the men just stared blankly at each other.

They didn’t know. They hadn’t heard any commotion.

They had no idea when he had left or who he had left with.

How were they supposed to answer?

"Rudy, go up to the roof and see if there are any suspicious people around." Getting no answer, an uneasy Dexter Bishop sent Rudy Lane, who had just returned, to check things out.

Although Rudy Lane was a little reluctant, he didn’t let it show. He quickly went up to the roof to survey the area.

A quick scan revealed nothing out of the ordinary. He averted his gaze, then lingered at the top of the stairs for a while before heading back down.

’Got to put on a show. Don’t want Old Man Dex thinking I’m slacking off!’

Once Rudy Lane was completely gone from the rooftop, the officers hidden in various corners, their bodies rigid, finally let out a sigh of relief.

’That was close. If we weren’t so quick, he would’ve spotted us!’

"Old Man Dex, I didn’t see anything unusual. Ford must have gotten held up by something, that’s why he isn’t back yet." Rudy Lane’s expression was respectful. Although Dexter Bishop was still a bit suspicious, he didn’t say anything more.

The fingers behind his back began to rub together subconsciously as he sank into deep thought.

’Something feels wrong, but I can’t put my finger on it.’

"Old Man Dex, since you’re worried, why don’t you just ask the breakfast vendor who’s watching the station for you?" Rudy Lane remembered, his expression turning slightly sycophantic.

Although Wyatt Ford was the one who usually maintained contact with him, Rudy knew a little about it.

Only then did Dexter Bishop remember he had another informant.

"Quick, ask him what’s going on." Dexter Bishop tossed his phone to Rudy Lane.

Amidst the envious stares of the others, Rudy Lane opened the chat with Boss Thorne.

"The police station? Besides a team that came back to rest, I haven’t seen anyone go in or out. Not from the front or the back."

Although Boss Thorne didn’t know why he was being asked this question, he operated under the principle that anyone who pays is a good boss, so he reported everything he had noticed that day.

After confirming no one had entered or left the Varden West Precinct, Dexter Bishop finally relaxed a little.

’Looks like I was just overthinking things. Getting paranoid and imagining Wyatt Ford would betray me.’

He casually praised Rudy Lane for a job well done, told him to keep up the good work, and then left.

The men sent by the boss were almost here. He had to get ready. Once the bombs were planted, the day of his vengeance would be at hand!

Dexter Bishop couldn’t help but laugh aloud at the thought of the police begging him for mercy later on.

The men around them shot Rudy Lane jealous, hateful looks. It was bad enough they hadn’t been able to push Ford out of the way, but now another guy was worming his way up.

Evan Keller had no idea what the people inside the house were thinking. His attention was fixed solely on his phone.

When he received the message from Sean Hughes—"All disarmed"—his entire body relaxed.

"The bombs have all been disarmed! We can go in and make the arrests now!

"But Pierce Miller also said this group is armed. So, when we move in, pair up. Your personal safety is paramount," Evan Keller instructed as he organized the operation.

The team from the provincial bureau followed the same procedure.

Capturing the criminals was important, but the safety of every officer was just as crucial!

"Make it quick. This guy is just small fry. We need to see if we can use him to lure out a bigger fish!" Evan Keller clapped a team member on the shoulder, his tone grave.

"Yes, sir!"

The group responded in unison. Then, under the command of their respective team leaders, they began to rapidly approach the house.

Having prepared in advance, every officer was kitted out in full gear.

Then, one of Evan Keller’s team members kicked the front door open.

He immediately ducked to the side, on guard.

Only after confirming the doorway was clear did they proceed inside.

The loud noise from downstairs drew the attention of everyone on the upper floor.

Someone rushed downstairs to see what was going on.

The moment he showed his head, an officer from the entry team took him down with a single shot.

During the initial surprise attack, tranquilizer guns were most effective. But once the targets were on alert, it was time to switch to the real thing.

There were quite a few criminals inside, but they were no match for a professional, well-equipped team.

In addition to the main assault downstairs, the provincial bureau’s captain had even arranged for a small squad to scale the drainpipe with their bare hands.

With a coordinated attack from above and below, they quickly surrounded the remaining men on the third-floor staircase.

"How are there so many cops?! Who the hell ratted us out?!" Dexter Bishop, protected in the center of the group, held a black pistol, his expression twisted as he gritted his teeth.

This area was practically deserted. They had been so careful coming and going, and they never interacted with any nearby residents. How did these cops find them?!

"Who? Your own star employee, of course," Evan Keller replied, keeping his gun raised and ready. "He told us quite a lot."

’A lot of what?’

The moment Dexter Bishop heard that, his face contorted, and his other hand instinctively reached for his pocket.

"It was Wyatt Ford, wasn’t it!"
