My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 130: There’s a Mole in the Organization
Chapter 130: Chapter 130: There’s a Mole in the Organization
"We need to prevent them from creating a diversion. Check the other cars, too." Evan Keller watched the passing traffic, his expression grim.
Their intel was incomplete; they didn’t know if any of their targets had blended in with the normal vehicles.
So, to be on the safe side, the searches had to be done.
Because they were short-staffed, the chief made a decisive call after receiving the second message from Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn, immediately requesting help from Captain Lynch in East Varden, with whom they had collaborated before.
He had personnel stationed in advance at the intersections leading out of the city to intercept and inspect vehicles.
Their own mission, meanwhile, was to stop these suspicious vans.
"Sir!"
The other officers quickly directed traffic away while deploying the vehicle interception devices they had prepared.
The moment everything was in place, Evan Keller and his team drove their cars, closing in on the vans.
They weren’t wasting any time. The plan was to force them to a stop.
"Who the hell leaked this? Why are there cops waiting at every intersection!" The van driver’s expression soured the moment he saw the police lying in wait up ahead.
When he heard there were police at the other intersections, too, his face turned absolutely foul.
’This was supposed to be a secret operation. Besides us, who else could have known?’
’How did the cops sniff us out so fast?’
"What do we do? Should we turn around?" The man in the passenger seat was a new recruit, out on his first mission. He’d never expected anything like this.
His voice trembled with fear, and his eyes, when he looked at the driver, were filled with panic.
The driver spat out the side window. He glared at the recruit, his eyes fierce, as if one more word would make the kid his next victim. "Go back? We’re boxed in. The only way is to punch straight through!"
The recruit, who had been about to say something else, fell silent. He sat timidly in the passenger seat, not daring to speak again.
He knew if he spoke again, he’d become the target of the driver’s rage once they escaped.
But then he thought about what was in the van, and a glimmer of desperate hope appeared on his tense face.
’Maybe we can make it!’
After a quick call to inform Anne Dawson about the police at the intersection, the driver hung up, his gaze locked forward.
His large hands gripped the steering wheel in a death grip. He was going to ram his way through!
’We’re blocked in front and back anyway. Might as well risk it all!’
’Who knows? We might actually break through!’
Meanwhile, when Anne Dawson heard that the police were lying in wait at the intersection, she furiously kicked a woman who was scrubbing the floor nearby.
"Useless! You’re all a bunch of useless trash! How did this information get out? Investigate! I want everyone investigating!
If you don’t find the leak, no one is leaving this building!"
Anne Dawson paced back and forth a few times, realizing this couldn’t continue.
’What if they trace the vans back here? All my preparations would be for nothing!’
’I have to move everything, now!’
"Those two upstairs probably aren’t under suspicion. Why don’t we take this opportunity to move some of the merchandise to her place? It would keep it safe and also give us a chance to check out her background."
"I hear the other faction has already started their operation," Felix Tate whispered, leaning close to Anne Dawson.
It was only natural for Anne Dawson to be cautious, having just arrived in a new territory.
But he’d received fresh intel today: a small splinter group had escaped to another city. They were moving fast and already recruiting heavily.
"What’s the rush? Our responsibilities are completely different. There’s no comparison," Anne Dawson said dismissively, knowing what Felix Tate was referring to.
She wasn’t worried in the slightest. She ran the most profitable business in the entire All-Supreme Sect; naturally, she had to be extremely selective with her recruits.
If she rushed and an undercover agent slipped in, wouldn’t everything be ruined?
Anne Dawson had been confident in her control over everyone in the house, certain that a mole could never get in.
But today’s events on the highway had dealt her a harsh blow.
However, Felix Tate’s words sparked a different idea.
’Recruiting them slowly is too much trouble. It’s better to just drag them both into this. That way, they’ll be forced to join whether they want to or not!’
’And if something goes wrong, I can just claim they were accomplices.’
A thoughtful glimmer flashed in Anne Dawson’s eyes before hardening into resolve.
"Felix, go get a few of those items. Then you can escort our future new members home."
"No one else moves. I’m going to find the person who leaked our secret!" Anne Dawson’s voice was laced with venom.
No one was sleeping tonight. She would tear the entire house apart if she had to, but she *would* find that mole!
Standing in a corner with his head bowed, Gavin Owens felt a surge of anxiety. He still had the small notebook hidden on his person.
It contained the intelligence he had recently gathered, though most of it was fragmented and some of it was unverified.
He had wanted to verify it before passing it along, but the situation had taken a sudden turn. As long as he could get this notebook out, he wouldn’t have to fear any investigation from Anne Dawson.
Thinking of Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn still on the third floor, and the intelligence that had to get out somehow, Gavin Owens gritted his teeth and decided to risk it.
"Got it." Felix Tate licked his lips, a flicker of excitement in his eyes.
His gaze swept the room before landing on Gavin Owens.
’That Zoe Sawyer girl chatted him up pretty good. She seems to like him. Having him do this is the safest bet.’
"Eagle, you’re with me. We’re moving some things," Felix Tate called out to Gavin Owens, motioning for him to follow.
’Perfect!’
’This is the perfect chance to pass it to them!’
Gavin Owens knew he couldn’t leave himself. He had to rely on those two!
On the fourth floor, Felix Tate grabbed a few stamp albums and shoved them into Gavin Owens’s arms, telling him to wait by the stairwell.
The guard usually posted at the stairwell had been called downstairs by Anne Dawson. A big move was coming, and she wanted all eyes on deck.
Felix Tate quickly schooled his expression before heading to the third floor to say a few words to Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn. Gavin Owens seized the opportunity, using the bulky stamp albums as cover to pull out the small notebook hidden on his person.
Soon, the three of them were walking toward Gavin Owens.
"Here, a gift from Anne. She likes to collect stamp albums and gives a few to all our new family members," Felix Tate said, signaling for Gavin Owens to hand the items to Zoe Sawyer and Vivian Dunn.
The instant Zoe Sawyer took the albums, a small notebook was deftly slipped into her sleeve.
She looked up in surprise and met Gavin Owens’s eyes. Behind their cold facade, she saw a flicker of desperation and a silent plea.
Zoe Sawyer lightly tapped her finger against his palm, a silent signal for him not to worry—she had it under control.
Then, Zoe Sawyer held her phone in her right hand and, under the guise of slipping it into her pocket, tucked the small notebook away with it.
Since they had already been searched, Felix Tate paid no mind to Zoe Sawyer’s movements. But Vivian Dunn, who had been watching the exchange intently, felt her pupils contract.
’There’s another one!’
