My Superpower Leads Me to Murderers
Chapter 119: Pig-Butchering Scam and Zoe Sawyer’s New Ability
Chapter 119: Chapter 119: Pig-Butchering Scam and Zoe Sawyer’s New Ability
First Brother Jacobs cleared his throat. "They’re real."
’No wonder I thought there was something different about their demeanor,’ she realized. ’So they’re police officers.’
’That explains it.’
Faced with Evie Jacobs’s look of utter disbelief—an expression that screamed, ’You went legit behind our backs?’—Zoe Sawyer rubbed her nose sheepishly and explained, "I didn’t want to add to your stress by telling you. I was just thinking of coming out to have some fun, but I didn’t expect to actually run into something like this."
But what was done was done, and it wasn’t the time to dwell on it.
Evie Jacobs walked up to Quentin Miller and kicked him in the shoulder. "Tell me what happened. Explain everything, from beginning to end."
Quentin Miller opened his mouth, about to make an excuse, but one look at his two brothers-in-law and their bulging muscles made him spill everything that had happened recently.
After the news of Evie Jacobs’s pregnancy broke, he was indeed ecstatic for a while.
His mind was consumed with the idea of giving his child the very best, but not long after his wife went back to her parents’ home to rest during her pregnancy, his enthusiasm fizzled out.
Alone at home, he inevitably let loose, visiting illegal websites whenever he pleased. Gradually, Quentin Miller was no longer satisfied with just videos; he wanted to experience it for real.
This was when Fiona Walsh appeared. She was young and beautiful, and the look she gave Quentin Miller was full of adoration, which gave his ego an immense boost.
It only took a few days for the two of them to cross the line from friends to something more. Holding hands and kissing became routine.
At night, they would even video chat naked. The thrill of the affair went to his head, and after crossing that final line, they became even more reckless.
Quentin Miller started using "working overtime" as an excuse to go out on dates, which is when Evie Jacobs began to suspect something was wrong.
After a few of these hotel trysts, Fiona Walsh hinted to Quentin Miller that she had "something special" to show him and told him to book a hotel for his next business trip.
When Quentin Miller arrived and entered the room, he was immediately tied up by Fiona Walsh’s accomplice. They threatened him, recording it all on video, and demanded he transfer all his money to her. If he didn’t, they would post all of their intimate videos online and send them to his family and coworkers.
Only then did Quentin Miller realize that from the very beginning, this had been a pig-butchering scam targeting him.
The photos and videos they had taken earlier had all been edited by Fiona Walsh; she had face-swapped his face onto other people’s bodies in explicit clips, which were then posted on illegal websites to generate clicks and revenue.
The original, unedited videos, of course, were saved for blackmail.
Originally, Fiona Walsh had also tried to lure Quentin Miller into gambling, but he was surprisingly self-aware about his bad luck and flat-out refused.
To avoid all their efforts ending in nothing, they decided to lure him to the hotel, extort a lump sum, and then make a run for it.
If Quentin Miller didn’t want a divorce and didn’t want to face social ruin, he would have no choice but to swallow this bitter pill.
But they hadn’t counted on Evie Jacobs bursting in at that very moment with the police in tow, completely ruining their scheme.
As for the other "victims" Fiona Walsh had mentioned, they were people she had befriended, only to secretly photograph and record them before using the material for her face-swapping operation.
By the time her victims found out, she would be long gone, having moved on to a new city, leaving them to endure the strange looks from everyone around them.
Through these methods, the pair had indeed amassed enough money to live lavishly for a long time.
After explaining everything from beginning to end, Quentin Miller managed to struggle free of his bonds and crawled to Evie Jacobs’s side. "Evie, honey! Honey, I was wrong! It’s the first time I’ve made a mistake like this, can you please forgive me just this once?!
We have a child on the way! You can’t let our baby grow up in a single-parent home, right? I swear I’ll never do it again!"
As he spoke, Quentin Miller reached out to hug Evie Jacobs, but First Brother Jacobs yanked him away, refusing to let him get anywhere near his sister.
"Too late. You’re filthy to me. We’re getting a divorce, and you’re leaving with nothing. End of discussion.
Otherwise, I can make sure everyone at your company and back in your hometown knows exactly what you’ve done. Be careful, or you’ll lose your job, your reputation—everything." Evie Jacobs stood up and looked down at the man kneeling at her feet. The love she once had for him was gone from her eyes, replaced by pure, cold indifference.
Realizing Evie Jacobs was serious, Quentin Miller collapsed onto the floor. His eyes swept across the room, searching for someone to plead his case for him.
Just as his gaze fell on Zoe Sawyer and he was about to speak, several people moved to block his view of her, their eyes filled with warning.
Quentin Miller shuddered and reluctantly looked away, abandoning the idea.
Soon, the group returned to the police station to give their statements.
Evie Jacobs and her three brothers, who were completely faultless in this whole mess, were able to leave quickly. Before she left, Evie gave Zoe Sawyer a hug and apologized.
Trailing behind them was the dejected Quentin Miller.
After the five of them had left, Sean Hughes clapped Zoe Sawyer on the shoulder. "Didn’t think we’d go out today and bring back two cases. Leave it to you, Zoe."
"Oh, stop. Go on, get to work. Today’s a rare day off for me, and I’m not spending it doing overtime with you." Zoe Sawyer huffed, then turned and headed toward the office.
She was going to go bond with Beau, and hopefully, she could crash at their place for dinner.
’She was so sick of the cafeteria food.’
Heath Hale patted Evan Keller and Sean Hughes on the shoulder, his tone light. "I’ll leave it to you two. I’m just a coach; this kind of work isn’t my responsibility.
I’m going to go enjoy my day off, too."
As for Barry Quinn and Monkey, her personal protection, they had already followed Zoe when she left.
Only Evan Keller and Sean Hughes were left at the station entrance, staring at each other.
’Wait a minute, they all took off and left all the work to us?!’
’Damn it!’
Sean Hughes grumbled and cursed under his breath, but his feet honestly carried him toward the interrogation rooms.
’There were still some things to sort out!’
’Did Fiona Walsh and her partner have any other accomplices? Were there other victims?’
’By the time they got all this sorted out, their day off would be pretty much over.’
Evan Keller sighed. ’Oh, well,’ he thought. ’Might as well get it over with.’
Meanwhile, Zoe Sawyer sidled up to Beau and asked what was for dinner.
After receiving an invitation from The Logan Grandparents, she offered to bring a dish to share.
Watching Beau finish up some homework, Zoe Sawyer felt her hands start to itch. She wanted to draw, too!
She asked Beau for a blank sheet of paper and a pencil.
Staring at the blank page, Zoe Sawyer thought for a moment before finally drawing a door.
’It was the door to her home.’
Zoe Sawyer stared at the door for several minutes, feeling that something wasn’t quite right. Something was missing!
Seeing Zoe standing motionless for so long, Heath Hale was about to ask what was wrong when he saw her write a few words on the paper.
Then, she put down the pencil, reached out her hand, and opened it.
On the once-blank piece of paper, a pitch-black space had appeared.
"What the fuck!"
