Chapter 1584: Chapter 1583: Installation (2)
Everyone else was able to get over that bit of news a little bit quicker than I could, their attention shifting more and more over towards the maps that Jahi laid out atop the table as they discussed all sorts of things.
The size of the structure, how important foot traffic would be for it, how well guarded it needed to be, what sort of requirements it had for activation… all kinds of variables that needed to be weighed appropriately were discussed while I was still lagging behind a bit.
My mind was spinning slightly as the number 5 kept pressing against my skull in random spots, bringing about a mild headache that wasn’t going to go away any second now since all I could think about was what was going to happen in the future.
Almost half a dozen babies were inside of me, clinging together in the limited space of my womb and sucking as much sustenance from me as they could so that they could grow big and strong… and also continue making me fat…
The promise of a long and arduous birthing process was definitely not something that I could just ’accept’ with a smile and anticipation, yet it wasn’t like there was much else I could do besides just understand that sometime in the future, that was what I was going to have to do.
I was going to have to push out five different, beautiful, almost certainly ’demented’ babies over who knows how many hours all because I quite enjoyed the scalding heat that filled me up whenever one of my wives-
“Kat? Did you hear what I asked you?”
Blinking a few times, I looked over at Jahi and tried to recall if I heard anything these last few moments, only to shake my head and earn a wry smile from my wife as she prepared to repeat what she had asked me, though Lady Fenyras interrupted with a smirk.
“Were you too busy thinking about all those pups floating around in that fertile womb of yours~?”
I gave her a dry look before murmuring “I zoned out for a moment, Jahi. Repeat that for me, please?”, which just earned a soft growl from the Demon Wolf as she glared at me… and yet she just had to lean back after Lady D’Arcon gave her knee a squeeze.
“We were discussing the idea of hollowing out a portion of the plateau we are currently residing on to create ample space for the Transportation Circle whilst also providing it some defenses ’free’ of charge. Do you think it’s a viable idea, or should we keep looking elsewhere?”
My wife’s voice was gentle as she patted my thigh, letting me know she understood that my mind was still elsewhere but also grounding me in the here and now as she gestured towards the maps, which had a few metal pieces on them that Anput was using to help us visualize everything.
“The structure needs to be – at the very least – a twenty foot cube of special marble that the Empress is obviously providing. Walls, floor, ceiling… all of it needs to be that marble, but that doesn’t mean we can’t prop this cube up on a pedestal of whatever material we want, nor does it mean that we can’t encase this structure inside of another.”
Explaining some more of it to me, Jahi gave me another smile before she looked down at the map with me as I studied it for a moment, trying to find another suitable spot only to realize there weren’t too many more centralized locations that weren’t already being utilized for something else.
We would need to shift quite a bit if we wanted to replace them with the Transportation Circle, and with the decision to use it as a symbol of a sort for the common people it couldn’t reside within the walls of our compound, leaving us few viable locations.
“If we dug out a portion of the ground – say, ten or so feet down – and carved out twenty or so feet from the plateau, we could play around with the idea of turning the area into some sort of open space to be used for… anything, really. Surround the marble structure with open area, that way it has space to be both admired as well as used.”
The others all nodded while Lady Fenyras snorted and said “That’s quite the plan coming from the one who wouldn’t be doing any of the digging.”, which made me smile as I nodded and gently replied “Which is why we cannot thank you enough, Lady Fenyras, for your willingness to contribute to the Empire’s future~!”
“What the hell are you talking about, brat?!”
Her silver eye was ablaze with confusion and anger, yet when I tilted my head and said “As someone with Metal Magic, you would be able to help excavate the area far quicker than anyone else here! Isn’t that why the Empress sent you?”
“You..!”
She pointed her finger at me before snarling as Lady D’Arcon chuckled softly as she said “But of course Fen will help excavate the area~! She is quite proficient at it, after all~! Besides, the sooner we get it finished the quicker everyone can come back to visit again~!”
The Demon Wolf was practically shaking in her seat with anger as she glared at Lady D’Arcon and I, yet she didn’t attempt to offer an alternative whatsoever, nor did she say anything else the rest of the time as we continued to discuss more about this structure.
That was honestly a little worrying, yet after Anput quietly departed for the kitchen and came back with another bottle of wine the Demon Wolf simmered down just a little, and soon after that I excused myself and began to start preparing an early dinner, sensing that this would be best for everyone… especially Lady Fenyras.
I might feel the urge to ’tease’ her but going overboard with it still carried a fair amount of risk for us both, especially as those memories from the Labyrinthian returned somewhat the longer that silver eye bore into me…
