Chapter 682: Chapter 368: Taming the Taixu Residual Spirit? The Soldier Nurturer’s Desire

Taixu grew increasingly alarmed and doubtful. He channeled the sliver of Origin he had extracted from Qin Yun, intending to break open the hand, yet he remained utterly unable to break free.

He thought of Su Chen’s status as a Star Seed.

“Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator? But he is merely a Star Seed. How could he possess such Power?”

Everything happening before his eyes completely baffled Taixu. Even though he was merely a Spirit Fragment and not the true Taixu, his breadth of knowledge was unimaginably vast. However, ever since entering this Nether Tower, each successive event had made it impossible for him to remain calm.

Su Chen expressionlessly watched the hand before him, which shone as dazzlingly as a collapsing star. His confidence did not stem solely from the Great Venerable.

This Residual Spirit had an extraordinary background. If he were to rely solely on the Great Venerable, he wouldn’t have been so certain. Through his deductions, he had already learned that this entity, in order to escape from the hands of several Ancient Kings, had discarded the vast majority of the Origin that hosted it and instead attached himself to Qin Yun.

Qin Yun’s body had been practically hollowed out, and she was under house arrest. Added together, how much Power could the two of them possibly unleash? Moreover, he now only needed to deal with this Residual Spirit.

If the Great Venerable couldn’t even handle this, then all those Fog Ashes would have been wasted for nothing.

Text had already appeared on the interface:

[Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator has received your command, manifested its form, and is preparing to subdue the Residual Spirit attempting to seize the host’s body.]

The molten gold hand slowly closed. The purple flames erupting from between its fingers churned and roared like a living creature, turning into fine specks of light before being devoured by the Great Venerable.

In the inner layer of that wisp of purple flame, a vortex surged. The gray fog acted like a swimming fish sensing the rising water temperature—agitated and restless, yet with nowhere to escape.

The phantom of the Great Venerable behind him extended another hand. The two hands clapped together, and red flames and golden lightning burst forth from his palms.

Su Chen couldn’t help but marvel. As expected of a system command, the Great Venerable executed his intent with extreme precision, suppressing the commotion to an absolute minimum so that not a single trace leaked out, even within this confined space.

CRACKLE CRACKLE!

The dazzling ball of light before his eyes contained a power that made even Su Chen shudder. Faint rumbles could be heard echoing from within, as if an entire world were being overturned inside.

“It should absolutely never end like this!” The Residual Spirit gnashed his teeth, realizing that the minuscule amount of Origin he had painstakingly gathered from Qin Yun was on the verge of being utterly obliterated.

When that happened, he would be left with nothing but a Spirit Fragment, completely bereft of any power to resist.

The Residual Spirit was deeply unwilling to accept this, refusing to believe he would actually meet his downfall at the hands of such a young boy.

The final trace of Sun Residual Fire acting as his vessel—which was also his trump card—shattered entirely, exploding violently in the void like a dying star.

The blaze tore through the silence of the space. Su Chen felt the temperature begin to climb. The Great Venerable’s clasped hands suddenly swelled, bulging and burning hot like an inflating balloon, instantly expanding to the size of a millstone.

The red and purple flames devoured, intertwined, and evolved with each other, transforming into an endlessly spinning, magnificent orb of light with a rippling surface.

Su Chen felt a slight palpitation in his heart. If this thing exploded, it would likely reduce him to ashes.

But right at this moment, from deep within the phantom of the Great Venerable, a wisp of purple flame as fine as silk quietly emerged. It converged with the Sun Residual Fire unleashed by the Residual Spirit, rapidly entwining and fusing like a magnet attracting iron.

In an instant, the fireball before him seemed to be smoothed out by an invisible hand. The violent blaze retracted, turning into a gentle, circulating halo of light.

“This is Sun Residual Fire? How are you able to master it…”

Before he could finish his sentence, Taixu’s Residual Spirit seemed to understand. His only remaining wisp of grayish-white fog trembled incessantly as he asked in astonishment, “You… you are the person who entered that Flame Fire?”

The Residual Spirit thoroughly understood. Being able to master the Sun Residual Fire, while being so young, meant Su Chen possessed the qualifications to gain its acknowledgment. Standing right before him, Su Chen perfectly fit all the criteria.

No wonder that trace of the Spiritual lodged in Qin Yun’s body back then had no reaction to Su Chen—because he had already been acknowledged.

He had figured everything out, but it was too late. His final trump card had been neutralized. All the defenses shrouding the surface of his Spirit Fragment vanished without a trace, leaving behind only a cluster of fish-like fog.

The Residual Spirit let out a furious, resentful, helpless, and indignant roar. “What… what exactly are you?”

Before his voice could fade, the roar turned into waves of anguished wailing as the red flames and golden lightning scoured back and forth across that wisp of gray fog several times. Immediately after, the phantom of the Great Venerable coalesced behind Su Chen abruptly retracted. Clenching Taixu’s Residual Spirit, he returned into Su Chen’s body.

At the same time, numerous words appeared on the interface:

[Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator has brought back Taixu’s Residual Spirit and is preparing to tame him.]

Su Chen’s heart stirred. He wondered if the Great Venerable had brought him into the place where the Professional Spirituality resided, and how exactly this taming process worked.

Just as the thought crossed his mind, he faintly heard a series of terrified roars in his ears. It was none other than Taixu’s Residual Spirit:

“What are you?”

“Where… where exactly is this place?!”

Taixu’s Residual Spirit’s terror was absolutely genuine, accompanied by bouts of shrill, agonizing wails.

“Wait, I have a few things I want to ask him,” Su Chen thought to himself. Immediately, Taixu’s Residual Spirit’s wails ceased.

“Taixu…” Su Chen called out in his mind.

Hearing his voice, Taixu seemed startled once more and repeated, “What exactly are you?”

This question seemed difficult to answer. Su Chen remained silent for a moment before simply skipping it and asking directly, “I also want to ask you that very same question.”

In truth, Su Chen wanted to ask if he knew exactly where he currently was, and he especially wanted him to describe the conditions of that place. However, doing so would likely allow this old fox to catch on to something.

Although he had captured this Residual Spirit, digging out the information he wanted and making him cooperate wouldn’t be that simple.

“Why did you say that you are both the Final Ruins and the Sun?” Su Chen asked pointedly, partly out of curiosity and partly to continue intimidating the other party.

As expected, Taixu’s Residual Spirit was shocked again. “How do you know that?”

He had only said those words to one person—Qin Yun. It was impossible for Qin Yun to have leaked it to Su Chen, so how did Su Chen find out?

He was engulfed in terror. This boy indeed harbored secrets, but these secrets were so massive that even he found them impossible to resist.

“I’m the one asking the questions,” Su Chen said coldly.

The Residual Spirit stayed silent for a moment before speaking up. “How about this? I’ll answer one of your questions, and you answer one of mine…”

Before he could finish his sentence, he began to howl in agony. With a slight shift in thought, Su Chen blocked out the noise in his ears.

This guy had existed for an unknown number of years and was incredibly sly. If he didn’t thoroughly tame him, even normal communication would probably be difficult.

But he wasn’t worried. Recently, he had carefully studied materials regarding Spirit Fragments. Although they were remnants left behind after death, a leftover Spirit Fragment was not truly the person they had been in life. They possessed an almost obsessive, instinctual desire for “survival,” so he wasn’t afraid that this guy wouldn’t cooperate.

Now that the Residual Spirit was in his hands, he was in no rush. Pinching the Morning Star Residue, he pondered, “I need to study this thing too…”

Suddenly, more text appeared on the interface:

[The Soldier Nurturer has discovered the disappearance of the Spirit Fragment attached to the Morning Star Residue. A sudden craving has emerged; he hopes you will bestow it upon him.]

Soldier Nurturer?

Su Chen was momentarily stunned. This profession was used in conjunction with Secret Artifacts and was currently one of the more important professions in his system. However, it wasn’t a Holy Profession, so its improvement limit was estimated to be only a Tier Nine Weapon.

Why would he suddenly be interested in the Morning Star Residue? Could it be that the owner of this Morning Star Residue had a similar profession?

After contemplating for a moment, Su Chen naturally wouldn’t refuse since the profession had made a request. With a slight shift in thought, the Morning Star Residue in his hand vanished, and text gradually materialized on the interface:

[The Soldier Nurturer has devoured the Morning Star Residue, and his body is gradually expanding. Somewhat terrified, he pleads for help from Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator. The Great Venerable, currently punishing Taixu’s Residual Spirit, glances up and wishes to mobilize Deceitful God Essence.]

He had actually gorged himself? Su Chen was somewhat speechless, but he agreed to the request.

[Great Venerable Red Flame Thunder Resonator has mobilized three portions of Faceless Ghost, Crimson, Black Tuo, and Sly Fox Essence, integrating them into the Soldier Nurturer’s body. The Soldier Nurturer heaves a long sigh of relief and is currently refining the Morning Star Residue…]
